Apparition Exam

Irene Finch had specifically asked for the tables to be left in place for the exam. If the sixth years were going to be licensed, then they would need to possess the ability to work with their surroundings. Apparating across an empty room was convenient for beginners to practice, but the chances of apparating to a truly empty space were going to be slim to none in the real world. There'd be tree filled forests, garbage strewn alleys, and perhaps, when they were lucky, the occasional field or valley. This would be an especially important test for those students who were interested in careers in the Ministry as apparating was a requirement for many of the positions. It was an important skill, allowing independence of movement.

Irene arrived at the castle just in time to greet the students who were waiting just outside the Great Hall. The students were seated on the benches that had been provided to await their turn. "Good afternoon" she greeted, her icy blue eyes taking them in one by one. "In a moment, I'll begin calling you in alphabetically by your last name. Once I do, I'll ask you to apparate to a spot in the room. You will only get one shot. I will not pass you if even a hair, button, or shoelace remains where you once stood." Irene's gaze drifted by several students. Irene let them sit with that for a moment, wanting it to be clear because she hated the annoying begging for another chance that came when a student failed. She looked at their faces, wondering which ones she would be seeing in the courses that were provided by the Ministry throughout the year. Many people failed the exam on their first try, but the woman did nothing to reassure the students of this fact. It had been an interesting semester of lessons with this group, so she wasn't sure how successful they would be.

Stepping back into the room, where her clipboard was already charmed to take notes, Irene looked to be sure all was in order and then glanced at the list and called the first student forward. Once the student was inside, Irene shut the door tightly and began the exam.

Roleplay your character's attempt to apparate to a point in the room, you can godmod where Irene directed them. Don't forget that the Great Hall would look as it would on a regular day minus the students. :p
You will get an exam grade of A or T depending on whether you roleplay your character succeeding or failing. Extra credit will be given for the level of detail in your roleplay regardless of passing or failing. Feel free to godmod Irene if it is necessary to your roleplay. If you have any questions, message me. No replies will be accepted beyond Wednesday, the end of exam period!

Anisha arrived at the Great Hall and took a seat on the bench. Miss Finch arrived not long after and explained how it was going to work. She told them it would go alphabetically by last name, which meant Anisha was probably going to be in the middle somewhere. They would only get one shot and couldn't leave behind as much as a hair. She understood why, but the words still made her nervous.

It felt like it took ages for her name to be called. She swallowed, waving at Raafe who would go after her before stepping into the Great Hall. To her surprise, the Great Hall looked exactly the way it usually did. Anisha crossed her arms and listened to Miss Finch as she told her where to apparate. She had to move to a spot near the Gryffindor table, quite a bit away with a few obstacles in the way. She nodded, then started to focus. She thought of the three D's and took a deep breath. Then, she apparated to the right spot. She then thanked Miss Finch and left once she was dismissed.

He sat stiffly on the bench outside the Great Hall, running through the three Ds in his head like the mantra it had been for this whole semester. He waited sort of impatiently, his leg bouncing with the anxiety he felt at the fact he could fail this thing, and then where would that leave him? He hated floo and wasn't a fan of portkeys for short distances. They should only be used for long distance travel as far as he was concerned. As his name was called, he stood up and took a sharp breath, then a deeper one. he straightened his robes that weren't actually mussed, and willed his nerves to steady. He shouldn't have been so nervous about this, he'd been doing okay so far, he thought, but that didn't mean he didn't feel the weight of this. He couldn't even leave behind a hair, a button, no pressure, right? As he stepped into the hall, eh wasn't sure how he felt about the rearranged space, with all the tables still in place. It felt oddly formal actually, but still served as a reminder of the stakes. His target would be the clear space beside one of the benches, he just had to hope he wouldn't apparate into one of the benches.

Destination. Determination. Deliberation.

With a twist of willpower and the pull of magic, he turned on his heel. The air tightened around him for a split second before releasing. When he opened his eyes, the bench was beside him, exactly as he'd envisioned it. He glanced down at himself—every button, every hair, and both shoelaces intact. Relief surged through him, but he maintained a composed exterior. Once he was allowed to, he quickly headed out of the great hall as the next person headed in to do their exam. Merlin, that was over, now he had to go and find Mikael and collapse.

After doing well in her lessons this far Leah was able to keep her nerves in check for the most part. But knowing that this was the final step in the process did mean she was pacing around the entrance hall like an anxious cat. She had a while to wait with her last name towards the end of the list but when she got called she rushed to the door and straightened her robes as she was ushered inside. She took a deep breath and waited for the spot she needed to apparte to be presented. When it was, she was almost disappointed. She knew it was all random but all she needed to do was go straight ahead, not even all the way across the hall. She probably wasn’t doing a good job hiding her thoughts from showing up in her expression but she took a deep breath and focused on the task at hand. With wand in hand she went through the three Ds and focused. She took another breath and in the next second she was right on the X like she was supposed to. She grinned and looked for approval from Ms. Finch before she left to let the next student go.

Bethany was terrified, so she wasn't sure she could pass the apparatus exam. It was in the awareness that if nothing would work out. At first, she didn't even want to go to the exam, although she knew that she might get a bad grade, and she didn't need that. So she collected herself and left. She trembled like an aspen leaf as she joined the others at the door of the Great Hall. As they waited, the girl tried to calm herself down to dispel her fears. Until finally it all started that they would have to go inside until their name was called. It meant that there would be time to put your fears to rest because there would be a long wait and an agonizing wait.

She was waiting for her name to be called, and in the meantime needed to calm her fears a bit and make sure everything was going to be done well enough to hope for. She was already getting annoyed with the wait, but then it was her turn and Bethany slowly walked into the Great Hall. She listened to instructions about what she should do. Then she concentrated, but then she felt fear creeping into her body again, she just didn't have time to think about it. She ignored them, then took a deep breath into her lungs, something she had to do to keep calm. Bethany focused on what she had to do, then suddenly felt what the tug was supposed to feel and knew she had done it. Only how well it worked out will be known later. There was no real confidence that everything went perfectly. There will be some errors.

Savannah did not want to fail this exam. It wasn't her most important exam, but the way things would be made so much easier when she had this. It was therefore the most aniticipated exam. She just wanted to pass and to not have to think about it. Passing out open so many doors for her, would give her the space to do so much. Savannah was watching as other students did their exam, she wasn't really able to tell if people were managing or not. But slowly, most other people went and then she was called forward. She kept the information in the lessons in her head and followed the examiner into the great hall.

Savannah glanced around the great hall, trying to not be annoyed that suddenly the room was back to normal and they weren't just apparating in an empty hall. She knew that this wouldn't make too much difference. She looked at where the examiner told her she had to go. In an ideal situation she'd be able to walk it, go to the spot and then go back an apparate but of course she couldn't, and in the real world she wouldn't be able to do that. So instead, Savannah focused. She focused and centred her mind, she focused on where she wanted to go, keeping her mind focused on what the professor had gone over with them. She felt the tug and leaned into it, and with a snap was across the room.

Gregory hadn't had the best experiences with apparating, after taking so long to even get it, the first and only time he had, he had splinched himself. Not majorly, the cut was healed, only minor and fading scarring. But he knew it was important, it was a vital skill for him to have as a wizard. That it would make things so much easier for him. But he had to first of all actually manage it. Gregory was waiting for his name to be called, he had with him, his notes, so he knew when it would be called. Gregory was sure the professor knew that he wouldn't be able to hear, and would hopefully not mind his parchment which would help him.

He was eventually called in and after he got the instructions of where he was to go in the room, he had to fold up his parchment and put away the quill before being able to do it. He knew that apparating with things like this would just have to be things he'd always have to do. Gregory focused himself, tried to at least. he stared at the spot he wanted to go, and it took a while, but he felt it, felt the tug. When he did he let himself apparate across the room, and was immediately upon landing checking himself for any fresh blood. Which he couldn't spot.

Roo was glad that it was the last week of classes. Classes had definitely held her back from exploring this semester, so she was excited to just get them out of the way. The girl made her way to her apparition class, more than ready to apparate again and show the ministry lady that she had it in her.

Roo gathered around with the class as the Ministry lady explained how everything was going to go. As she began calling everyone's names alphabetically, she regretted being so far down the alphabet. When it was finally her turn to step up, she approached the lady with a small smile and took her position. She thought of the Three D's. Destination. Determination. Deliberation. She closed her eyes as she repeated them in her head, imaging herself where she had to be, with the thought of this all being over, with her succeeding. She wasn't going to leave anything behind, she was just going to end up where she needed to be so she could be out of there soon enough.

Roo took one last breath before opening her eyes again, beaming when she realised she had done it. She was exactly where she wanted to be - where she needed to be. She thanked the Ministry lady for teaching her and left feeling very proud of herself.
