Apparition 3

Before the end of the lesson, Irene Finch hoped that all of the students would succeed in apparating to their target. She knew that wouldn't be the case, but the pressure was on for the students. This was the last practice after all. Several of the students had managed to apparate during the last lesson even with the splinching that had happened, but that didn't always translate to success at the exam.

Addressing the small group of sixth years, Irene walked as she spoke. "Today, we will resume practicing" she began, her icy blue eyes staring at each of the students in turn as she spoke. "I am hopeful that those of you who weren't able to apparate last time will do so today. The next time we meet will be your exam and you will only get one opportunity to succeed or fail. Your test will require you to be accurate when you apparate." She let that sink in before continuing on.

"Line up beside me please." It didn't take them long to queue up. "Alright...I'd like you all to attempt apparating from this end of the Great Hall to that end" she said, pointing towards the doors of the Great Hall. "The red X marks the spot" she added, knowing that they had probably noticed an X etched onto the floor with magic as they walked in.

Glancing at all the students beside her, she hoped there would be no splinchings today, though she had asked for one of the school nurses to join them once again. "You can begin whenever you're ready" she said to the student who was first in line. "As soon as you feel comfortable, you may leave. But, please do remember that this is your final opportunity to practice before your exam." They were adults by wizarding standards or close enough anyway, so she wasn't going to force any of them to stay. It was in their best interests to take advantage of the time provided to them though.

Practice attempting to apparate one by one. Practice as many times as you'd like. Please PM if you plan on splinching.

Aurora hadn’t done as well as she had wanted to in the last apparition class, so she was hoping that she’d manage it in this one. Aurora just wanted to be good at it, the doors it would open to her. She just wanted that real badly. She walked into the great hall and was glad they’d continue to practice, but instead of spreading out to apparate into individual hoops, they lined up and it was very clear, they needed to apparate in front of everyone else. This felt..a lot..given that she hadn’t really managed it that much in the last one, but there wasn’t much of a choice. Aurora watched as others went before her and then stepped forward. She went to the starting point and looked at the x at the other side. She remembered the three Ds and focused, letting herself relax and after still a beat longer than most apparated across the room. She was glad to manage it and then immediately rejoined the queue, practicing as many times as she was able to until the professor dismissed them.

Rosie followed her sister into the great hall to be able to continue with apparition. Rosie had managed it pretty easily in the last lesson and was just determined to do so now too. She needed to be able to do it. She wanted to be able to do it. Rosie got into the lined they were in and nodded as the professor told them what they’d be doing, which given the lesson wasn’t too surprising. She watched as others began doing it and then her sister who went before her, then Rosie stood up to do it. She focused, remember everything that the professor had told them, and then was able to focus herself enough and the pull came. She leaned into it and was immediately transported to the cross at the other side of the room. She rejoined her sister and practiced over and over until the professor dismissed them.

It was their last practice at apparition. Demetrius had found it rather hard the first time round, and he wondered if with practice it would get any easier. He lined up with the other students, a little nervous but going over the three Ds in his head over and over. When it was his turn, he found himself able to do it a bit more easily than last time, though he did have a tiny headache from all the concentrating. It felt good to be able to do it reasonably well, but he kept lining up to practice. Once the lesson was over, he went on his way, a little bit trepidacious about the upcoming exam but confident enough in his ability to apparate.

Aine was dreading Apparition even more than last time, if that was even possible. Sure, she'd managed to do it, but she hadn't done it right. And that just wasn't good enough. Especially not when the exam required them to nail it first time. She wondered how the school was for re-attempting a licence. Probably expensive, but surely a failure now didn't mean they were completely barred from getting a licence ever, right? Though, Aine wouldn't have put it past them.

Trying to ignore that, Aine instead focused on the red X. Or, at least, tried to. She found herself nosing on how everyone else did and feeling a little jealous and resentful that everyone seemed to just get it right. Not that that was at all helpful or going to get her where she needed to go, unless, of course, it did...

Considering that, Aine decided that if she was going to act with determination, then her determination should be to show that she could do just as well as everyone else, and when her turn came up she laser focused on the X. The feeling of moving, however, was a little strange, and she almost wanted to fight it whenever it started. Thankfully, she didn't fight it enough to get splinched. Unfortunately, it meant she ended up just short of where she wanted to be, her feet between the two lower lines of the X rather than in the centre. It was technically where she had to be, but it wasn't exactly right. She practiced a few more times, as long as she possibly could, until eventually she found herself in the middle when she didn't hesitate, but it took a lot of time to get there. The pull of apparition felt so wrong that it was natural for her body to reject it. Aine was just lucky that the worst that happened was a few locks of hair were severed, and nothing actually serious. She'd been needing a new haircut anyway.

Monday Weeks had prepared for this week considering that it was in the middle of the term, and the lessons were on fully now. Monday did not mind it, as they were not nearly as intense as the OWL year. Next year would be worse with it being the NEWT year, and the final year of Monday’s school career. It was weird to think about, but he pushed it from his mind. Monday ensured that he looked good. His hair was brushed, his robes were on, and his prefect badge was straight and pinned. Monday thought that he looked good, a little out there with some of his personal style that leaked through the school uniform. He checked his schedule, and packed his bag full of the homework and books that he needed for the class, and headed out.

Monday walked in the Great Hall, a little nervous about this lesson. He managed to apparate without actually hurting himself, but what if he will this time? They would be practicing again, and were told to line up beside her. Monday did just that. He was still a little nervous, but he worked hard not to let it show. He got to work on apparating, and he practiced. He managed to practice for the entire time. He was getting more comfortably with it, and at least he did not lose any body parts. So, that was an improvement.
