Apparition 2

Irene stood in her Ministry robes looking as poised as ever as she awaited the sixth years' arrival. Today, they'd finally get some practice in. She knew that some students had experience with side-along apparition, but doing it alone was a very different experience. They'd soon find that out for themselves. It was one thing to go along for the ride, and quite another thing to be the person who had to remember the 3 Ds and execute them perfectly.

"Let's go. You don't have all day and neither do I." Irene Finch urged the students forward impatiently as the first student walked tentatively through the open Great Hall doors. She took roll as they entered, shutting the doors from the distraction of younger students who wanted to see what was happening. "You don't need to be on top of each other. Space yourselves out!" she stated, exasperation in her tone. Irene gave her wand a small flourish and a large wooden hoop appeared in front of each student, falling into place before them.

Looking around at their faces, Irene stared at each student for the briefest of moments, making judgments about their ability to succeed at the task before them. She had been doing this long enough that she was rarely wrong. "Alright, let us begin. Today, you will make your first attempts at apparating" she declared, her hands on her hips as she walked around. "Before we begin, however, can someone remind us of the three Ds?" she pointed to a student and nodded her head as they responded.

"Excellent" she stated. "Now that you've all been reminded of the three Ds, it is time to put them into practice. For your safety, one of your school nurses is here" she nodded towards the corner where the nurse was stationed. "If you splinch yourself, please remain in your spot and the nurse or I will come to you. No sense bleeding all over the place" she stated with a small shake of her head, not even thinking about how startling that sentence might seem to a muggleborn. She didn't explain splinching either. Sooner rather than later, she was sure they'd learn if they didn't already know. "Begin. I will be walking around."

Points will be given to the student who answers the question. RP the lesson.
If you'd like your character to splinch themselves, please PM me first.
School nurse welcome!

Aurora headed into the great hall very excitedly, knowing this was where she would get to apparate, finally apparate. She looked up at the teacher as the woman got started. She spaced herself out from her sister and stood apart. Then in front of her appeared the wooden hoop. She had known to expect this, her brother had said as much when it had been his turn. At the question she raised her hand but wasn’t picked to answer, and then they were just allowed to do it. The gryffindor prefect immediately focused her mind, knowing where she wanted to end up, where she wanted to go. She had to focus, and much to her frustration, it took most of the time of the lesson before she was able to finally feel the pull and she apparated into the circle. She had no time to be able to try again, and though Aurora was pleased she managed it, she wasn’t exactly overjoyed with how long it had taken her.

Rosie followed her sister into the great hall. She looked to the woman who was teaching them, and moved into a space for herself. Rosie glanced at the wooden hoop in front of her and was vaguely listening to the lecture which followed. She was mostly just focus on the fact that she needed to be able to do this. She needed to be good at it. They were then allowed to get started and Rosie really focused her attention and felt it quickly. She was able to apparate with ease, and noted that she was one of the first, even managing it before Aurora. She practiced, taking the opportunity of time to do it, and then when the lesson was over the left the hall.

The teacher was curt, that's for sure. But Demetrius didn't mind too much. What was important was getting this right, and he hoped she'd provided them with everything they needed. He spaced himself out from the others, and looked at the hoop. That was his destination. He felt silly for a while, trying to use the power of his mind, or rather his magic, to get into the hoop. It wasn't really working, and he wondered what he was doing wrong. Their time was nearly over when he finally did it, appearing inside the hoop suddenly. It felt weird, but it felt good, and Demetrius gave a rare smile as he let himself bask in feeling good about himself. Soon after his accomplishment, the lesson ended, and Demetrius was a bit remiss that he didn't get to practice more. What if that had been a fluke? He couldn't do anything about it now, he'd have to wait until the next lesson.

It was the second week of the term, which meant that often, they would be diving in the actual lesson material versus an introduction. Some classes did that, some jumped right in on the first day. Monday Weeks actually preferred the latter because he was impatient and did not like waiting. The Ravenclaw prefect got dressed and ready to get his day underway. He already had breakfast and did some running before he would start his class for the day. He just needed to pace himself regularly. After all, he would desperately need it. He had to stick to a strict schedule, otherwise he might lose his mind. Monday checked his weekly timetable, and grabbed the materials he needed for class, and headed out of the Ravenclaw towers.

Monday walked in the great hall for another day of apparition. He was worried over it, but what could he do other than try to calm his nerves down mentally. The woman told them to space themselves out - which Monday did. He was far from others. He needed some of the space too. He looked down at the wooden hoop next to them. Irene asked them what the three D's were, so he answered,
"Destination, determination, deliberation." Monday had it all memorized since he really wanted to succeed with this. Monday started to focus, and used those three words. It was hard to even do without a wand. He wanted to get it done, and after an uncomfortable feeling, he managed to apparate, and ended up in the hoop. He breathed out a sigh of relief, but he was not about to try again.

Aine felt sick to her stomach with dread. She had not been thinking too much about Apparition, being busy enough with other things, but the knowledge that she'd have to attempt it soon meant there was a bit of a haze of anxiety in her mind. She wasn't quite sure how she'd made it to the Great Hall, but she had, and she had dressed lightly as they'd been advised. She wasn't even sure if she could recall the three 'D's if asked, thankfully at least Monday could. Aine would've probably blurted something like 'do or do not, there is no try' and that would definitely not have gone down well with Ms Finch.

She stood by herself, making sure she was spaced apart from everyone else, and focused on the hoop. At least, she tried to. The buzz of anxiety was like a roar inside her head. She could barely see the hoop when she looked at it, feeling almost faint. But it wasn't as though chickening out would have gone down well, and she didn't anticipate gaining any sympathy for nerves. Aine just had to keep reminding herself that she could drive a car, so she could manage apparition. She had received permission to study occlumency, so clearly that meant she could do this, she had the ability, didn't she? Though when she thought too much about that, she felt like a bit of a fraud. Aine shook her head. Focus, focus. Look at hoop, focus on moving to hoop, move to hoop. But what if-

Crack. Aine blinked, and noticed she was decidedly not in the hoop. She'd lost focus at the last second, trying to backtrack. Thankfully, her body was in one piece...but she was standing about one meter behind where she'd started. Everyone else, naturally, had seemed to have gotten it, and Aine just stood in confusion for a moment. She had no idea how she did that. She did manage to get a little closer on a second attempt, but it was right before the hoop instead of in the hoop. She sighed, having run out of both time and energy, feeling very much like a fraud and hoping nobody tried to ask her how she did.
