Lumio had a lot on his plate, but less than he'd had in the year before. His classes were a little better, he wasn't too busy with them, because he had fewer of them, and it meant he had a little more time to spend on the brotherhood stuff. He had his homework vaguely in front of him, trying his best to wrap his head around the potions work that they had, while a transfiguration book sat beside it. He had never good at any subject but the work in transfiguration had been the most interesting of it. He just wasn't very good at it, but he'd been glancing back over it and thinking about the chess spell. But really it was the wrong thing to think about when he was supposed to be focusing on potions, and it wasn't like he was even any good at transfiguration anyway, but it certainly was something he was more interested by.

Ryan was glad he didn't have to deal with all the fuss of OWL exams this year. It left a lot more room for him to get into what he actually liked about school, which was learning about the interesting spells rather than fretting over exams. He knew it was only a matter of time before he had to repeat the process with his NEWTs next year, but he was hopeful at least NEWT level magic would involve interesting spells on the way.

Dodging around some louder Gryffindors, Ryan had been forced to take the long way round to the Ravenclaw table, trying to avoid an animated argument about the Quidditch cup that was taking place further up the hall, pausing when he passed Lumio with his books spread out in front of him. "You ever tried eating food you've conjured?" He asked, pointing at the Transfig book Lumio was glancing at. "It's really weird."

Lumio glanced up and gave a little shake of his head, he'd never tried to conjure food, sure that it was something that a person couldn't do, anything that could be conjured probably wasn't actually edible. "Nope," he replied with an emphasis placed on the p sound. "I was mostly just thinking about the wizard chess pieces that we once made," he wondered what it would be like to do it on any toy, what was the limitation of it. He kind of hoped that there wasn't really one at all. "Whatcha up to?" he asked, with a curious smile. He didn't talk to Ryan often enough but no time like the present to start.

Transfiguration was one of those subjects that always piqued Ryan's curiosity. The more they learned, the more questions he tended to get than answers. When Lumio brought up the chess pieces they'd animated a few years ago, Ryan nodded, deciding to sit down next to Lumio rather than head to the Ravenclaw table. "Yeah, I tried it on a bigger statue once but I couldn't get it to work. Probably too complex a being to try to animate or something," he admitted with a shrug. "I'm talking to you," Ryan said flatly when Lumio asked what he was doing, motioning pointedly between the two of them. He supposed his sister would probably be thrilled to see him talking to her boyfriend's brother and Ryan barely resisted looking around the hall to see if she was nearby to notice, keeping his attention on Lumio. "Have you tried animating anything lately?" He asked now that he had the spell on his mind.

Lumio hummed in agreement. "Yeah probably, or just needs more specific practice," he said. He thought it was likely possible after all, the point of the transfiguration was still to just build the knowledge that went into the spells and not necessarily know every transfiguration. He gave a shrug at the response knowing he'd been asking lesson specifically but deciding to not let himself get bogged down in it. "Not really, just revising in general and read it over again," he said. "I wonder if you could make one out of paper or something?" he asked, in theory if it were person shaped it could be given animation.

"That's a good point," Ryan said thoughtfully, moving to take a seat in the spot next to Lumio, pulling over a piece of parchment. "Are you using this?" He asked, not waiting for a response before trying to fold it into that resembled... anything. "I've seen people do this before it can't that hard," he muttered, frowning when the bird he'd been trying to fold just turned into a slightly crinkled square. He glanced at the parchment, and then at Lumio before sighing and pulling out his wand, tapping the paper with a quick spell to transfigure it into a paper bird. Magic was just so much easier, he had no idea how muggles coped.

Lumio shook his head at the question, he wasn't using it and it wasn't like he didn't have plenty of spare ones. The teen glanced at Ryan and what he was doing, it didn't take him long to figure out what he was attempting to fold fold it. eventually just resorting to magic to do it. "Magic makes our lives simpler," he commented, since it probably would be a difficult thing to do for anyone, but the fact they could do it with magic was definitely an advantage. "Are you going to try to animate it?" he asked curiously, he felt the obvious answer was yes and was already grabbing spare parchment to try it himself if this worked.
