An old friend. A new start

Ash smiled. " Yeah i suppose that is true. Well at least i have my little Alexia, she is my star of the family. she is all i have." He sighed then looked down at his drink. Alexia was really the only family he had so he wasnt going to let her go with out a fight.

"She must be a great person to have all your attention." Sam leant against the unit and looked out the window. She felt bad being attracted to Ash when Dervish had only died a few months before.

Ash shrugged. " She is the only family i have left, she hates me too i think." He laughed. " Arent i the father of the year. My whole family hate me." He ruffled his hair up then muttered something under his breath but made sure that i was quiet enough that he couldnt eigher

"Hey, you know I don't like that." Sam laughed as she tried to flatten her hair back down then she frowned slightly. "What did you say??" She put her hands on his shoulders and waited for his answer.

Ash smiled when she flatternd his hair out. " I didnt mean to do it. And i didnt say anything, just speaking to myself is all." He smiled again as she rested her hands on his shoulders.

"So you still do that??" Sam laughed again. She couldn't believe how happy she was. She thought she'd never be able to do this again and here she was laughing along with Ash. "How come none of your kids like you then??"

Ash smiled with her then shrugged. " I suppose i havent been the best dad in the world and anyway they are old enough to decide who they do and dont like." He rested a hand on her arm as he sighed.

"I need to meet them properly in that case. I don't see why anyone wouldn't like you." She shrugged and smiled at him. She honestly couldn't see any reason why someone wouldn't like him.

Ash laughed. " Like i said. Im not the best role model. It seemed that i was there there when they didnt need me but gone when they did." He sighed then looked down and sipped his drink

"You've always been there when I need you. Like now for instance." Sam couldn't pull her eyes away from his. She could feel her body physically moving towards his but she couldn't stop it.

Ash smiled. He noticed she was getting closer to him, he didnt really care. " Well this is different. I havent seen you in ages and i would see them everyday, that changes things." He sipped his drink.

Sam looked up to the ceiling when there was a sudden smash come from upstairs. "Oh for the love of Merlin." She groaned. "There is no way I'm going up there again. He's done this too many times."

"It's Jasper." She took her eyes away from the ceiling and looked back at Ash. "He has the worst temper possible and he keeps getting in arguments with his girlfriend. Every time he does, his fist smashes through something. It was the window last time. That one sounded more like the door."

Ash nodded. " Well he sounds a bit like me then. Exept i dont hit windows. Too much mess for me." He smiled widely at her. He sipped his drink

"He's never been quite right since his parents died. He acts all strong and brave but the way he hides him self in books just makes him look more upset. I swear he sometimes looks almost suicidal." Sam was scared of the look Jasper sometimes had. She didn't want him to go and kill himself. She had already lost enough people in her life.

Ash looked at her. " He wont kill himself dont worry. He has a girl friend and i doubt he would do that to her." He smiled supportingly at her

Sam rested her head on Ash's chest. "I wish you were right but you don't know him. I can tell that he loves Candy but he doesn't want her to get hurt and he seems to feel that by being with him she is going to."

Ash sighed when she put her head on his chest, he rested hhis arms on her back as he spoke. " Well he may think that but its what she wants which is the important thing. If she doesnt mind the risk of getting hurt then neigher should he. Somethnig that i have learnt in my life is that girls are nearly always right." He chuckled slightly as he finished

"He doesn't see it like that." She wrapped her arms around his back and hugged him. "All he sees is that she's getting hurt because she's with him. He doesn't want her hurt so he tried to keep her away."

"Because his temper is too short. The minute something goes wrong, he lashes out. He seems to turn into a completely different boy." Sam hugged him tighter. "He's tried." She looked back up at Ash. "He went a whole month with out seeing her before realising he loved her too much to stay away from her."

Ash shook his head. " That just confuses me." He rested his hands in her back and moved them up and down to comfort her. " The longer he does it the more it will hurt her."

"I feel sorry for him." Sam hid her head in Ash's chest. "He hasn't been right since he was six. He's a very intelligent boy but he hides himself from the world. He has nightmares all the time."

Ash continued to hug her but this time he didnt say anything for the plain reason of he didnt know what to say about it. If these were his children then he might have but since they arent he had know idea. " Well thats a shame isnt it." This was the best he could come up with
