Five years together. Five more months, and it would be six years. Wren couldn't say that it had all been blissful happiness the entire way through, but he was more than content, and every opportunity that he had to be with Aspara, he was there. On the night of Samhain, he took the opportunity to be with his lover and arrived at their shared apartment with a bottle of wine in tow, his guitar and many pumpkins full of Hallowe'en sweets.
It had been some time since Wren had planned a surprise for Aspara. When the other man came through the door there were floating candles lining the walls, carved pumpkins overflowing with flowers, tea lights or sweets, respectively, and a bowl of Samhain offerings was left outside on a pedestal, within which rested a specially baked loaf for the spirits. He'd tuned his guitar up nicely as was playing a few gentle chords to welcome his lover, but it was Wren who got the surprise. Seeing the state of the man's face, the Divination Professor dropped his guitar onto the sofa and met Aspara hastily. His lover was injured. Again. "Mon amour, you are bleeding," said Wren disconsolately as he reached out to check the activist's injuries.
