Walking along the beach outside the apartment, Lily was not sure what to do or where to go. Finding her favorite spot under the pier, she kicked off her shoes and settled down into the sand. Pulling her legs up to her chest, she wrapped her arms around them and dropped her head to her knees and sobbed. The worst thing had happened. They were over. How could she have been such a failure? She had kissed another boy behind Blake's back. The only thing that would have been a bigger betrayal would have been if she had slept with Ford. She was positive that their behavior in the library had cost her head girl. If only she had slapped him instead of kissing him.....
Realizing what's done was done, she looked up over the dark ocean, wondering what to do now. They always traveled to California by floo, and now she was not sure exactly how to get back to New Zealand. There had to be a way to get back. She would find a way back, then go see Courtney and hopefully her friend would have a place for her to crash there. If nothing else, maybe she would be able to go back to school and to her dorm room. She had to do something. She couldn't sleep on the beach forever.
Standing up and dusting herself off, she made her way down the sand in the early morning light. Lily turned and looked back at the apartment that she had called home for many vacations from school. Josh would come home and find Blake broken and angry and it was all her fault. How was she going to face him when she saw him at school? Prefects meetings? How would he treat her? Turning to walk down the beach towards the public access to the street, she had so many questions floating through her mind. This would be here last year at Hogwarts before she enters the 'real world' as a grown up. She had always expected that she would do that with Blake at her side. Lily felt the tears coming again as she realized she would have to do all of it on her own. She was alone. Again.
