Continued from How could she do this?

" Once or twice a week maybe more sometimes I'm in there everyday, its hard to say really." Alex said as he watched her extend out her arms as if to keep balance. "Are you ok?" He asked hoping she was alright it looked pretty silly with what she was doing, but I suppose she just wanted to keep herself upright. As they made it to the mouth of the Forest he looked around to see if there was any teachers around and he stepped into the darkness.

Kala nodded as the trees covered them. It was darker in the forest and she kept a hand on him to stead herself. "I'm just not the best on my feet is all." She laughed, but it came out breathy from the walking. She hated being so weak all the time, but she was determined to keep going. In the warmth she had started to break out into a small sweat and grimanced. The beauty of the dim lit forest was worth it though.

" Yeah, well do you want a piggy back or something." Alex said not really thinking about it, it would be what he would do for his little sister if he had one, seeing as she would be the age of a little sister if he had one. He pulled out his wand as they neared the pitch black part of the forest. "lumos." He said causing his wand tip to burst out in a ball of light which lit up there way.

"No..." Kala had started to say, before tripping over a fallen branch. Her head smacked into the hard back of the tree she had grabbed to keep herself from face planting the dirt. Tears welled up in her eyes and fell over her pink cheeks. Quickly she lifted up with her black sleeve and wiped them away. Her head started to throb but it was a pain that was easy to ignore. The light from his wand flared up letting him see her and she see him. She took a calming breath before saying, "Actually, I think I'll take you up on that offer." She raised her arms out in front of her, looking like a gloomy doll, her purple streak covering one eye.

Alex just picked her up in front of him and slowly carried her over towards a downed log, so she would be able to grab him around his neck and be able to hang on, he had a little look at her head before he turned around so she could climb on. " Your going to have a bit of a bruise there." Alex said as he looked over his shoulder at him, it looked like it was quite painful and it would have hurt, even him if he would have done it.

Kala nodded, she wasn't surprised he was able to carry her, but did he have to make it look so effortless. She nodded when he said it would bruise. "Yeah I tend to bruise pretty easily." She chuckled softly. She was very used to getting hurt. At least she kept getting back up. She slipped her small hands on to his shoulders and hoisted herself onto his back. He was very warm compared to her cool skin. She wrapped her legs around his waist, hooking her ankles, so it would be easier for him to carry her. "There we go."

" So what part of Australia do you live in?" Alex asked Kala, not really remembering if he had asked her previously. He probably did, but he had a bad memory and most people knew that by now, maybe it was to many bludger's to the head, or maybe his brother was right when he said to him he was dropped on his head as a baby. He began to head along the path that lead to the cave he used to go to every day, it was a good place to go to, the pond in there was beautiful, with its fluorescent blue water.

Kala snickered. 'Yup, he is defo like Kari!' Her brother was always forgetting what he had told her, and many times she would have to hear the same story 20 times over. Thats were her great patience developed. Kala just sighed dramaticly and rolled her eyes, chuckling afterward. "You've already asked silly. I live just out side of Sydney." She smiled to herself. She couldn't see almost at all, but she trusted Alex to get them through safely.

" I thought I did, I'm always forgetting things." Alex said with a smile, that she wouldn't be able to see, he walked up to the mouth of cave and walked in, seeing that the fire flies where already in there, which they usually where this time of the year." This is usually where I am when I come out into the forest." Alex said as he noticed a rather large looking foot print which he hadn't seen anytime before when he had walked in here, He chose not to mention it to Kala, just so he wouldn't worry her.

Her grip tightened slightly when they entered the cave. She was always afraid of anything that was underground. She swallowed hard but was able to keep herself from shaking. The fireflies were beautiful, that sh had to admit. She had started to feel a chill, so she laid her head on Alex's shoulder, watching the fireflies as they danced. Some of her uneasiness went away, but the cave still scared her. "Its kinda dark. Besides the bugs that is."

" Well this is one of the most safest places in the whole Forest, this is near where the Centaurs stay, they don't attack humans so don't worry, they just don't like people destroying the forest, that's when they get mad." Alex said as he looked out to the lake, where he saw a bear drinking. " Hey Kala, we might actually have a little problem here." He said pointing at the bear.

Kala stifled a scream. Her eyes few wide, by the lake she saw a huge hunk of fur. Her eyes weren't good enough to make out what it was. Her grip tightened on his shoulders. She made her breathing as quiet as a mouse, something her brother often called her. When she did speak it was softly in his ear. "Oh, great. What is that Alex?"

" It's a bear, it's all good if there not provoked, they will not attack. They are usually a very calm animal, unless they are disturbed." Alex said as they just walked around to the other side of the pond, keeping quiet and not moving to fast. Just enough so that they where at a fair distance of the bear. " Just don't worry I wont let it hurt you."

Kala relaxed some. "I believe you." She said quietly into his ear. She wiggled a little bit, ready to get on the ground. Her legs had fallen asleep quite a while back. Still she was afraid to get down. If the bear came after them there was no way on earth Kala would be able to run for it.

" Then it is all good then, are you sure you don't want me to scare it off now." Alex said just in case she was still scared of it, after all she was only eleven years old. She wouldn't have been that well equipped with magic so she wouldn't know to many spells, but she would more then likely be able to fend it off if it attacked. He then walked over towards a log, he could tell she wanted to get down seeing as he could tell her legs where almost dead.

Kala choked on a laugh. She had to admit, she was still a bit scared. Stuttering a little she spoke. "Maybe that would be best." She was already afraid of dogs. She could tell an attack from a bear would be much worse then a dog. She swallowed hard, remembering the dog attack when she was little. This time instead of just her leg getting ripped open she saw her whole body dismembered. She shut her eyes.

At her saying it would be good to scare it away Alex leaped towards it, transforming as he done so, he landed on all four paws, looking straight at The large brown bear. Letting out a loud roar, Alex stood there and waited for the bear to look up and as it did, he leapt forward and scratched its face with his right paw, and quickly darted back making sure he was away from Kala and out of reach of the bear. He could smell the blood running down the side of its face and knew it would only make it more mad, with him attacking it, the way he was.

Kala rushed behind a huge rock out cropping. there she was safely consealed. She watched him transform and attack the bear. She was soundless but her heart was pounding so hard, she had no doubt in her mind they could her it. She slide down the rock surface and watched, too terrified to move.

Alex could hear the gasp from Kala, and he saw the bear turn its head and began to move over towards her, he reacted quickly and jumped up onto its back sinking his teeth into the Bear's neck and holding it as hard as he could, even while the bear was slowly suffocating, it dropped right in front of the rock Kala was hiding behind, it was now dead.

Kala swallowed hard and crept out from behind the rock. The bear lay motionless less than a foot away from her. Suddenly she started crying, and couldn't stop. She turned away and ran for the water. She sat down and buried her face. She felt bad that the bear was dead. Even though it could have hurt them Kala couldn't help but mourn its death.

Alex walked down to the side of the pond and put its head under to clean some of the blood off it, thrashing his head around cleaning off his body and drying himself off. He began to walk over towards Kala, changing back into himself as he done so, you could hear the pop of his ribs as they shrunk back to there normal size." What's wrong Kala?"

Kala swallowed the rest of her tears, trying to wipe away the ones that had spilled over before he could see them. For some reason she didn't want to seem so weak around him. She didn't want to seam weak to any one really, but more so around him. She swallowed again to steady herself and then looked up at him with a fake smile. "Nothing." She said so quietly she knew her voice betrayed her. She looked away quickly. "I'm glad your okay."

Alex could instantly tell she had been crying her eye lashes where extra black from the tears wetting them. " It's nothing is it, I highly doubt that." He said sitting next to her and looking at her, and nudging her softly with his elbow. " Is it because of the bear?" He asked hoping he hadn't upset her to much, by saving her life.

Kala sniffed. She nodded weakly, looking into the sparkling black water. She could see shapes, flitting in its depths, but could make out if they were fish. She took a deep breath. "I know its silly." She spoke in a calm voice, despite her turbulant feelings. "I can't help but feel bad. I mean, the bear was a living creature." She sniffed again, feeling new tears form.

" Yeah I know, back when I was nine was the first time I killed an animal, it was hard for me then, but the I realized it was either me or it. That's what it would have been with you and the bear." Alex said putting his arm around her and trying to reassure her that it was all ok. He moved his right hand around and wiped the tears off of her eyes, he felt bad for killing the bear even more then he had the first time he killed a pig, just looking at the look on Kala's face.

Kala slipped her small arms around his waist for a hug. She noticed he was quite a bit more built than Kari. Her brother could no longer work out, because of his disease. She quickly shut that out of her mind, not wanting to think about it. She squeezed Alex, then let go. Looking up at him with gentle eyes she spoke in a grateful tone. "Thank you. For protecting me."
