It was a bright day in Beauxbaton academy as Karl exited the castle for a walk. He was quite overwhelmed by the meeting he had recently had with the new girl - Alice, who had transferred from New Zealand to France. She was a swell persona that caught his attention every time he saw her.
These afternoon walks of solitude really helped Karl get his mind off things. He had turned them into a habit since the first year at the school, and didn't think he would stop going on them any time soon. He felt calm, relaxed, and alone with himself.
As he was passing a tree he had marked with the symbol of his favourite Quidditch team some two years ago, he noticed a figure kneeling on the trunk. It was a girl, definitely, and one Karl recognized from the Beauxbatons Quidditch tryouts. It was Meera Gupta, as far as he remembered the name.
" Hey, what are you doing out here? " he called, hoping not to startle her.

OOCOut of Character:
Kind of a lame start, but I hope we'll kick it off in later posts. :D

Meera was back from the holidays to start a fresh term at Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. Her first term had been to eventful, more than she would have liked. Other than her constant good grades and her position as a chaser on the school team everything else at the school had been bad. After returning from her three day trip to Bulgaria Meera had found it difficult to tolerate all the gossip. Yes she had kissed a boy she had met there and seeing how Meera had never agreed to date any of the boys at Beaux this topic seemed to be interesting everyone except Meera. She had finally been able to get over her first crush. The holidays had helped and meeting her friend and cook Tara Sitara had made her feel cheerful again. Meera had done one more thing during the holidays but for this one she had no regrets. She had spiked her mentors drink with love potion and had allowed him to have a fun night. Meanwhile Meera had been in a club with a man named Aodh who had been very charming and handsome and Meera had enjoyed his attention for the evening but all of that was now in the past. This term Meera had big plans most important of all was being able to talk to guys and being friends with them. After two years when Meera would officially announce herself as a Princess she would have to be social and get acquainted with boys and after a lot of help from Alice she was finally thinking that she could handle this.

One bright afternoon Meera and Alice were sitting by a tree in the grounds. They had been chatting about their holidays and Meera's throat was now dry due to all the talking. She stopped talking for a minute and extracted a pack of gum from her pocket. Putting one in her mouth she chewed on it and enjoyed the mint flavor juice. Just as she was about to offer Alice a piece she found someone approaching her and talking to her. Meera looked up and found herself looking into a familiar face. It was a boy. If Alice had not been beside her she would have probably replied rudely or told the boy to leave her alone but she knew her best friend was expecting more from her. "Hello" she said greeting the boy whose name she could not recall. He was a sixth year and since Alice was a sixth year now maybe she would know him better. "I was just chatting and planning on taking some photographs" she said and pointed to her camera that lay in her lap. She found the conversation starter totally off. It was in her nature to be guarded and here this boy was asking her what she was doing out here. "I'm sorry but I don't know your name" she said and attempted a small smile. She hoped it would work because she did not know what to do otherwise to be friends with boys. "I'm Meera Gupta" she said introducing herself to the boy hoping that would be a good start for the experiment. Meera turned her head to face Alice who was sitting on the other side of the tree and would not have been visible to the boy. "This is my friend, Alice" Meera added.

yes we will :D

Karl immediately felt sorry for being so bold. The girl emitted an aura of self-confidence, even superciliousness, and Karl was taken aback by that. He saw fire in her eyes, which startled and, at the same time, for who knows what reason, looked attractive to him. He stepped back, but just a bit, trying not to show his surprise.

It came to him as a great relief, and definitely helped him when he noticed Alice standing beside the girl. It seemed that Meera, as she had called herself, was somehow calmed by Alice's look, and hadn't simply told him off. And besides, he was glad to see a familiar face there. He and Alice had known each other for less than a week, but Karl felt a great friendship bond between them. He regained his calmness.
" You can never get enough photos of this place. " he let out a small laugh. " Nice to meet you, I'm Karl. And hello Alice. A pleasant surprise to find you here. " he added with a smile towards her. He felt her company would be quite welcome in any conversation that occurred.

Alice was sat against a large tree in the grounds of Beauxbatons. The view was gorgeous, clear and magical. Since having found this spot, Alice had used it as the best place to think upon life's mysteries. 7 years ago, Alice hadn't the slightest inkling that anything like this magical world existed, and had merely believed that the odd things she had been able to do were just by chance. Her world had been simple then, and her family had all loved each other. Grace had been young and there were no arguments between Alice and her parents. But everything had changed, although Alice didn't blame the wizarding world. She blamed her father. Her work-driven, emotionless father. Her holidays had been awful. Living in the same country as her parents now, the insisted that she visited them as much as she could, despite her wishes. Although she had reached the magical age of adulthood, her parents still believed that she was a child, because she was 17. Able to apparate now, Alice didn't have a good enough excuse to stay away, and Grace had personally written to her asking Alice to visit. Going for her sister was the reason she had told herself, but her father had sadly made an effort to be around, resulting in lots of arguments. Nevertheless, she had enjoyed taking Grace out to see things in the town they lived in, and helping her with her work. It seemed that her younger sister was definitely a muggle, as she had shown no signs of having magic. This had saddened Alice, for she had wanted to teach her younger sister things about their world that her parents would never be able to teach her. All was dependent on the next few years, where her younger sister would reach the age of 11 and a letter may arrive. The holidays had gone by quickly though, and Alice was delighted to be back at Beauxbatons, thrown straight into the chaos of her OWL year. It was thrilling, and she wouldn't have swapped it for the world.
Leaning against the tree, Alice was listening to Meera talk about her holidays. They seem to have been busy, but Alice was pleased that her friend was experimenting in the boy department more freely. She knew that it was against Meera's culture, but Alice felt that it was only healthy for a girl living in France to experience the same as everyone else. Meera had set her aim for the term to be able to talk and converse more easily with boys, and Alice decided to support her friend in as many ways as she could. Planning some meetings for her friend in her head, Alice turned her attention back to what she had wanted to say to Meera. "So, Professor Lucas called me into his office the day before we left, telling me that I had been assigned as a new prefect." She turned around the tree to see her friends reaction, before realising that Meera was talking to someone and couldn't have heard what she had said. Smiling up at the boy, she recalled their last chat. It had been nice, and he seemed a nice boy, but she had wondered what they had in common. She nodded at his greeting. "Hey Karl! How are you?" She smiled, looking between them for a minute. "I guess since introductions have been made, I'm not specifically obliged to do those. But Karl, you remember I was telling you about my roommate who loves and is amazing at quidditch?" She paused, waiting for him to recall the memory before continuing. "Well, voila! Here is the girl." She gestured to Meera and smiled again, hoping that this would be the perfect opportunity for them to start the conversation and for Meera to be able to work on her skills in talking to boys. She waited a while, listening to their conversation that she had nor needed a part in. Pulling her bag over her shoulder, she stood up, smiling apologetically. "I'm so sorry, but I have to go and get some work done. I don't want to be behind in the first week!" She paused, before turning to Meera. "I'll catch you later then, before dinner?" And then turned to Karl. "A pleasure to see you again - I'm sorry I have to leave." She smiled once more, before turning and walking towards the castle, delighted at the introduction she had been able to make and how successfully it seemed to be turning out. She knew that she would be able to hear all about it from Meera later, and for now, she had extra charms work that she wanted to do and a letter to write to George. She could save her thoughts to share with Meera for later, or another day possibly. Nothing was going to spoil Meera's goal for this year if Alice had a say in it!

OOC: Okalies... Hope this post was worth the wait! I have wrapped up Alice leaving so you don't have to be waiting around for me to reply, as due to and exam next week I probably won't get the chance to be quick at replying. Sorry for any minor godmodding that occured - I felt it was necessary for the movement of Alice leaving. Hopefully it has left with some good ideas for discussion, but yeh. I'm sorry that I can't be a bigger part of this rp, but I feel it will hinder it as a whole.

Karl's smile faded a bit as he saw Alice leaving. He understood she had done it to help him and Meera converse and get to know each other in peace, but nevertheless, he felt it putting him into a rather uncomfortable position. In addition to his first impressions of Meera, now that he looked at her closely, he found himself even more attracted. But he couldn't let it show. He remembered when he had first met a girl from his class, who afterwards became his girlfriend for a while, that he had let his feelings show way too much and she had quickly left after he foolishly asked her out to coffee before he even knew her name. He had felt so embarrassed his face still turned red when he recalled the scene.

He realized his eyes drift away into the distance and immediately turned to Meera again. As difficult as it was to him, he stopped looking at her as though he was going to fall on the ground. Thinking for a moment what to say, he figured asking her simple questions would be a good starter, and not delving deep into personal questions. Not yet, at least.

" So, you're into Quidditch? There's quite a bit of legends about you going 'round the pitch. " he said with a smile, hoping to lighten the mood.

OOCOut of Character:
So, we were thinking about them dating in later stages right? I figured i'd start with "liking" thoughts as soon as possible. :p

Meera gave Karl a small smile as he introduced himself. He was right, one could never get enough photos of this place but one could always try. "Its going to be evening soon and the best time for photography is between 4.30 and 5.30 so I thought I'd give it a shot" she told Karl as she pointed to a place in the ground next to her asking him to join them if he wanted. Meera's guess had been correct, Alice did know Karl. Meera could not remember her roommate talking about the boy but then again they had many things to do other than talk boys. Meera raised her eyebrow in surprise as she heard Alice tell Karl that it was her they had been talking about. Meera knew that she had promised Alice that she would start being friends with boys so she could be comfortable around them but Meera did not expect Alice to go around the castle talking about Meera's qudditch skills and hobbies. Meera was going to say something but Alice gave her another surprise as she announced that she had to leave. Meera knew that Alice had recently been promoted to sixth year and she had a lot of work as she had to catch up with her studies but leaving Meera alone like this on her very first attempt at being friends with a boy made Meera feel uncomfortable and even a little scared.

Meera swallowed hard as she watched her friend leave. Meera was not good at this. Her previous attempts with being around guys had been simply due to her curiosity and they had not ended well. She thought about what to say. Normally the young princess was always confident and in control of everything but this was very new and different. She was glad when Karl began talking to her. At least he had a good conversation topic now. Meera nodded her head and couldn't help but smile at his comment about her qudditch skills being a legend. "Glad to know I have fan following" she said joking then regretting it. The last thing she wanted was to sound all princess like. People did talk about her and she hated it. The only time she liked it was when it came to Qudditch because that was something she actually was good at. "I try"she said being modest. Karl was appropriately handsome like most of the Beaux boys but Meera trusted Alice and if she had chosen this boy to be her friend than Meera knew he must be different than the general lot. "I've been playing Chaser since my second year" she told Karl as the memories of her first tryouts and selection came to her head. "Any position in particular that you like to play?"she asked Karl, a little curious. Meera was not usually curious about anything related to boys but Qudditch always made her want to know more.

OOCOut of Character:

sorry about the lameness and lateness. Meera's going to take a while to appreciate Karl. trust issues and guarded and all that

Karl noticed the girl was getting nervous, more so after Alice had taken her leave. He had had some experience with talking to girls, and crushes among them. Nevertheless, he felt her nervousness take its effect on him as well. But he did well not to show it, or at least he thought so. He was glad she didn't take his remark about her Quidditch skills in the wrong way. Though it did seem she was saying it more as a joke than as something serious. A flash of anger even came into her eyes. Luckily, she didn't pursue the subject - a major advantage for Karl. "I've always enjoyed playing Chaser, but I prefer being a Beater. Kind of surprising I guess, given my slim build, but it's what I've chosen." He had endured quite a bit of injuries from Bludgers exactly because of his slimness, but he felt best when holding a bat in his hands. Nothing gave him more pleasure than sending a Bludger flying towards another player. That suggested an aggressive nature, but in truth Karl was a calm, measured person. So many people found the role he preferred to be a curious case. He dismissed that. " So, what got you interested in Quidditch?" he asked, to keep the conversation going, and trying to make full use of the topic before it became too banal.

Meera did not know where this conversation was going to lead them but for Alice and her own sake she had to find out. She had no experience with guys. Why couldn't have Alice been here and shown her what kind of topics one could use for conversation or what questions to ask. You have to do it your own way, the sensible part of her brain told her. "Yes, I have seen you a few times on the pitch" she said as she now remembered seeing Karl sometimes when she was flying or playing the game. Of course you have seen him. He was always in school, she thought scolding herself for saying something that was so obvious. Karl then asked her what got her interested in Qudditch. "I don't know...I just liked flying you know. My mom was a witch but she didn't fly...dad's muggle Professor. The first time I saw a Qudditch match was there" she said pointing to the direction of the Qudditch pitch as the memory came to her as a flashback. "It made me want to play the game and of course once I played the excitement and team spirit and working hard to win...it can be a big driving force" she said with a smile on her face. Meera then realized that maybe she was talking too much. Merlin knew that she did not know what or how much to say. She looked at Karl's face once again as her head thought that he definitely seemed better than the show off guys. They usually stayed in groups and did not talk to new people. "Am I talking too much?"she asked with a sigh. She did not know what to do. Maybe she needed a boy to tell her how it worked and if she could tell Karl about her situation he could help. "Alice has told me to be friendly with guys. Am I doing okay so far?" she asked again. If this boy thought she was total nuts then the decision would be made and he would not be worth being her friend. Maybe Alice would be mad at her for ruining it with another person but she needed to know.

Karl was so taken aback by the questions that he almost let out a shout of surprise. He had never seen or heard of a girl so straightforward that would simply ask how she was doing in a conversation. It was ordinarily the boy's job to keep the conversation lively and interesting for the girls, and that was one of the great mysteries and difficulties in communicating with the other sex. Karl placed that as his main objective during any talk with a girl - keep her entertained, make her feel special, move from subject to subject just so she wouldn't get bored. He had figured that it was the female's nature that made them so supercilious in that respect, and he had even spent hours before dates writing down ideas of conversation movers and subjects. He often wanted to make the best impression possible, and he rarely acted a hundred percent himself in those situations. The only girls who could guess his real nature and personality were the ones he pursued further.

And now here she was, asking him if she was doing good. What to answer? Any person would think she was either extremely straightforward ( something so unlike a girl that could cause any guy to simply faint ), or she was just playing tricks. Karl dismissed the second idea. Looking into her eyes, he saw only honesty. He didn't know how or why he knew that, but it was a feeling of surety he had never felt before. She was telling the truth. And that put him in a situation he had never been before. He let nothing show, though. He knew that many others would just run away and leave her after a quick word, but for him, this was a challenge - if he could make things work with this one, it would be the beginning of something big, he felt.

" You're doing just fine, believe me on that. Being straightforward is always a good way when you don't have much experience. And it's always good to listen to Alice. " he laughed at the last one, meaning every word of it though, but amazed how Alice's name appeared seemingly everywhere. " Why don't I sit down here and we continue this conversation? It's off to a good start, would be a shame to simply leave it at this point, don't you think? " he offered at the end, trying to make her feel as comfortable as possible. " You're right about Quidditch, it's really being up there, on that broom, hearing the crowd cheering, wind in your hair, that makes things worth it. " feeling he got a bit distracted, he turned towards her. She was beautiful, he thought. " Where do you come from? " he asked, a simple idea popping into his mind.

Meera waited for Karl to speak, trying to be as patient as she could. For a minute she feared that he would walk away. Meera did not care much about herself but right now Alice's friendship with Karl was at risk too. If Karl found Meera's straightforward behavior too much he would surely question Alice and the company she had. The water of the lake that had been silent all this while now moved and Meera tried to see if she could spot a fish or maybe a mere-person. She set her camera on rapid burst mode and focused it towards the point where she could see small ripples forming. She looked at the lake through her camera, ready to snap some photos. After a second, two gold fish came to the surface, breaking the smooth waters and attempted a good jump before going back in. Meera clicked five times hoping that one of them would have the fish in them. For a few seconds she totally forgot about Karl being there and all the tension. She was lost in her camera as she went through the photos. The first one was blurry, the second one had just the tip of the fish's mouth. The third one was just perfect and so was the fourth. It showed the fish in the air and diving back in. The fifth one was blurry again as it showed the fish contacting the water. Meera smiled as she thought about putting these photos in her album later that evening.

The small movement made by Karl made her aware of his presence once again. She looked up to meet his eyes and then as his words made sense to her her lips broke into a genuine smile. She laughed with him at the last bit about Alice. Alice was right, Karl was different only that would have made him stay. Meera nodded as Karl said he should sit down. The conversation had begun off really good and now finally the nervousness seemed to be leaving Meera. Qudditch was always fun but no one from Meera's family played and she feared the time after her graduation when she would have no one to play with. Meera smiled as Karl asked her where she came from. This was the number one question that Meera was asked when she met new people. "I come from Paris" she said with a grin. Meera was born in India and had lived there until she was two. Having no memory of those two years Meera almost felt like she was born in Paris and that made it easier for her to hide the truth. "My family is from India but they've been in Paris for a long time now" she told Karl trying to stick close to the truth and ignoring the specifics. "Are you from France?"she asked Karl. Now that Meera did not feel nervous she finally found herself wanting to get to know him more. It was a start, a good one.

She definitely calmed down a little, Karl remarked as he watched her take the photos of the fish. She was a good photographer was the first thing that came to his mind as a compliment, but he dismissed it for now - too much compliments was never good. It would add a negative light to the impression he wanted to make - an experienced conversationalist knew that compliments weren't a sure way to keep the other person's attention attracted to you - it was exactly the opposite. Of course, it would work with girls that were all looks and no brain, but Meera was far from that. Karl was sure of it. Intelligence and vigor bloomed here.

He patiently waited for her to be done with the photographs, carefully following her every gesture. Every movement caught his eye and he couldn't take it off her. What was happening to him? He was attracted, that much was clear, but more than he could ever remember. After a moment of distraction he grew confident that it wasn't a bad thing. She would make a splendid girlfriend, once she was fully calm and ready to open her heart to him.

Karl's thoughts frightened him. His mind had never been so bold in imagining such scenes when he first met someone. And what was worse, if he let it show, he might screw things up before they had even started. And so he was glad she started to tell him about her family. Something to speculate on. His favourite activity. " Wow, cool! I imagine it's cool living in another continent. " The remark seemed perfectly casual to him. Why was he careful about every word he said? It was something he had never felt before. " Yes, I was born and have lived here all my life, I went to a muggle school before coming to Beauxbaton. I never got used to it though, must have been my need to develop my magic that was killing my interest for maths or biology for example. " he had a laugh at the last comment, remembering how difficult it had been for him to show even the slightest bit of passion for practically every subject he had studied in his old school. " When did you find out you have magic? " it was one of the few questions he always asked a person, because it was often fun to listen to how different people found out they had magic.

Meera waited to hear Karl's remark on her heritage and when he begun mentioning that it must be cool living in another continent she shook her head. All of Meera's friends were told that she was born and brought up in France. Meera hated lying but she had no choice. "I've never been to India" she explained. She had no idea if it was cool. Meera had only once traveled to America with her family and her recent trip to Bulgaria other than that she did not see any other part of the world. "I was born here in Paris and have been living here since" she added with a smile. This lie was so common that Meera almost believed it. Meera did dare not say it but somewhere she knew she was French at heart. Her responsibility and duty came first and she had to serve a kingdom she had only heard of and she would of course do that but France was her real home. When Karl moved the topic to muggle schooling, it made her wonder about her brother. He was ten now and had not shown any signs of magic. Meera was not sure if she wanted him to be a wizard or not. Of course magic was the best gift but if he would not be pursuing any carrier in it, like her then it was better that he did not experience it at all because living like a muggle after knowing magic was just dreadful. Like her, Kush was attending a muggle elementary school too and she was hoping he would turn out like her father and be a muggle.

"I went to a muggle school too, you know" she said sharing her childhood memory with Karl. "I used to love Science and Math, especially Chemistry and Biology" she said hoping that he would not think she was bragging. Meera had enjoyed all the experiments at elementary level and the colors of the chemicals had always been the best to watch, especially Pottasium Permanganate which stood out as it was dark purple, just beautiful. "I thought I would be a doctor one day" she said with a grin as she recalled how some adults used to ask her what she would like to be when she grew up and she would always reply a doctor. Once she discovered magic she was not sure what she wanted to do anymore. Her parents had told her that she could get a good muggle degree in a University after she graduated from Beauxbatons but she would have to handle the royal matters alongside whatever muggle carrier she chose. The problem was it was muggle and it made her feel that all her magic was useless. She hated this feeling so she never thought about a muggle or magic carrier after that. She focused on her royal priorities. If they were sorted out and if her brother took charge of everything than maybe she could convince her parents to do something wit her magic but for now she did not think of future carrier plan like the other students her age.

Meera's chain of thoughts about her future was broken as Karl asked her another question. It was a very good one and the memory associated with it was cheerful. "I was in my muggle school in fifth grade, I was nine and half years old. This mean girl was jealous of my pink barbie dress and so she spilled some juice on it...on purpose" Meera told Karl, explaining how it had all happened. "I naturally broke into tears but as she was the teacher's favorite, the teacher did not believe me. I was so angry then. I wished that the ink from the teacher's pen would spoil her dress. You know juice stain can be cleaned but ink stain..."Meera continued her flashback. "And then the teacher's fountain pen got out of balance and next thing her dress and her face was stained with blue ink" Meera said, her face now having her biggest smile showing all her teeth and the dimple on her right cheek. That had just been the beginning. The teacher was sure the pen was no where near the girl but everyone had seen it. A few more incidents had happened but after the second one, Meera's mother had realized that it was magic. Despite being a muggle, her father was happy and they had celebrated. "I know it was mean for me to wish that but I was a kid" she told Karl after she finished laughing as she enjoyed her memory. "What about you? Anything interesting ?" she asked Karl. First magic memories were always special to the people they belonged and Meera could not help but realize that Karl was helping her and this conversation was turning out great.

Her remarks sent a wave of relief over Karl. Meera had finally calmed herself, and was ready to have a conversation, which was, by his opinion, turning out to be pretty decent. He shared the laugh with her as she told the memory. He was glad he had asked the question. One of the best things that could happen to a wizard was to find out he had magic in some bizarre, out of the ordinary fashion. And that was the usual case. Magic simply burst out, at some completely random time, often when you least expect it. It was also often connected with a profound feeling of anger, hate, sometimes even happiness. It would act as a reaction to something that happened nearby. Entertaining, but a little frightening, no doubt. It wasn't every day that you set something on fire or make a glass disappear.

On the topic of origin, he deemed it perfectly normal that she had lived in France all her life and had ended up in Beauxbaton. Something nudged him from the inside at the remark, though, but he kept it for himself. Although she possessed the personality of a true french woman, as would be expected, there was something different to her. Perhaps he would eventually figure it out. For now, he evaded questions that would make her feel uncomfortable. She had finally calmed down, letting herself make intelligent conversation with him, something that, apparently, she had never done with a boy before. Perfectly understandable, he deemed.

" Would you rather be a doctor or a wizard imbued with magical powers? I don't think there's two opinions on that. " he remarked joyfully at her muggle school experiences. " Concerning my magical experiences, my discovery of magic isn't as entertaining as yours, for sure. It was a simple flight over a car when I was being chased by a dog one day when I was seven. I don't think that animal was ever able to regain its wits. Good thing no one saw me hover in the air. But I had expected it to happen, so it wasn't such a big surprise. I was very happy then, you know. It was a turning point in my life, for sure. " he added a gleam to his eyes as he looked towards her. Perhaps he was being too direct? They had just met, after all.

OOCOut of Character:
I guess i'll start with the more profound show of Karl's feelings and all here. :D

If Meera had not experienced magic she would have been overjoyed to study medicine and be a doctor but things were different now. She had enjoyed all the pretend games she played as a child where she was the doctor and her mentor, Arjun the patient but her doctor dreams would not be anything more than a game. "You ever thought about a solid carrier?" she asked Karl curiously. Meera was very focused and when people told her they did not have any goals in life she usually lost interest in them. If she did not have royal priorities she would surely go chase all her dreams and watch them turn to reality and she liked the people who were passionate about their goals and worked hard to see them turn to something real. She listened to Karl's first experience with magic. Meera tried not to think of the poor dog. Meera's parents had allowed her to have an owl for communication at the family horse, Silver Arrow was of course to accomplish the training. Any other pets around her household were forbidden because like her, her parents loved animals and they believed in keeping the animals in the natural habitat. Besides displaying magic would probably affect the mental state of the poor creatures.

"All your parents are magical?" she asked him. There were very few purebloods families in France but they had made a big number of witches and wizards. Meera thought her family was perfect the way it was. Her father had supported them with magic and Meera thought he was more safe being a muggle than a wizard. "My father's teaches Psychology, he is a good muggle. Mom on the other hand, muggle born witch" Meera briefed Karl about her family. She smiled up at him as she thought about how happy Alice would be to find out that she was actually making progress. For Meera, first conversation with boys were never so long and detailed but Karl was different. He was decent. "I have a ten year old brother. I think he's going to be muggle. Hasn't shown any magic" Meera said thinking about Kush. She had to write to him as she had promised him she would. "So, Karl, am I suppose to be on the watch for some beautiful girl who'll try to kill me for chatting with you?" Meera asked and then laughed at her own question. It was twisted. Sometimes she could not figure out where she got all her dialogues from. "I mean do you have a girlfriend?" she asked making her question more clearer. A decent guy like Karl was bound to be taken. Meera knew her reputation around the school was not very good these days. This conversation was going smooth but she would hate it if some jealous girl made it hard for her to have a second proper conversation with her new friend.

OOCOut of Character:
cool

The conversation had gone on of two ways that Karl had deemed it would. And it was definitely the more favorable one for him. And for Meera, he supposed. Now that he had spent some time talking to her, he found that she was his type. To say the least. She was engulfed in mystery, but also confidence and amiability. The perfect combination, by Karl's estimation. He would take their new found friendship to a higher level, now that she had asked that same question that many girls asked him. But unlike others, he was glad she had asked it. It would open up a lot of doors for them.

Calling out all surety and conversationalist skills he possessed, he decided to answer the first questions for now, slowly moving the subject down to the last one, making it all the more dramatic. " My mother's muggle born, my dad - pureblood. I remember mum telling me the story of how she found out about my father's gift. She started throwing things at him, and he simply pushed them away, all the time trying to calm her down. The first few weeks were the worst, by my dad's words, but eventually love conquered all differences. " he had a laugh at the memory of how comical that situation must have been, and he had made his father tell the story over and over again, until he was rolling on the floor of laughter and amusement. Needless to say, his last sentence started to lead towards the dramatic situation he wanted to create. The gleam in his eyes had grown larger and stronger. " What do you mean by good muggle? " he decided to ask as he recalled Meera using that expression. It was an interesting notion, and the moment it took for him to try and speculate that acted as a distraction.

"I'd love to meet your brother one day. Muggle or not, anyone related to you must be a wonderful person. " Compliment after compliment. He felt he was going too far, remembering that, after all, this was the first time Meera had spoken and made friends with a guy. He didn't care though. The chance had presented itself, and he knew that if she felt it was the right time, regardless of any past or present situation, she would make use of it. As would he.

He put a serious expression on his face. " I've had my share of girls in the past, but nothing too serious, but not at the moment. I've actually been looking for someone... more... interesting of late. I'm not a superstitious guy, but a year ago I had a dream of a particularly special one. I think she was... of another world. I've been searching for someone like her ever since. I think fortune has smiled on me today. " He left it at that, not wanting to push any further for now. He had made his point, though, and had done it, by his estimation, in a rather different way than he had with any other girl.

Meera looked up at the sky and watched as the sun begun disappearing behind the forest. Sunsets were so beautiful. She had attempted painting that once but she had not been able to reflect the beauty of it in her painting. She watched as the birds, thousands in numbers began to settle in trees all around them including the one which they were using as their back support. Humans were most evolved and developed species yet their young ones took the longest time and got the greatest care. When she would turn eighteen she would be independent and out to face the world on her own. Thinking about the birds made her realize that how the young birds had to leave the nest so early. It was so unfair. But then again they had a short life span. Her attention was brought back to Karl as he told her about his family. Meera was always glad when a muggle person accepted magic especially in couples. That was what she called good muggle. Meera wondered if Karl's father had told his mother about the magic before or after marriage. Meera hoped it was before because declaring something like that after was just horrible. What if the other person was not able to accept it. For her divorce or separation was just not acceptable. Why go through such a painful thing when one could avoid it by speaking the truth?

"Good muggle is just someone who is okay with witches and wizards. Like a good muggle won't hate us or call us freaks etc. My dad is like that. Peace" she explained with a smile. Meera saw the last rays of sun disappear. She did not want to go in just yet. They had only begun talking and she knew once they were in the castle she would be so self conscious it would break down all the courage that she had conjured. She pulled out her wand from inside her jacket and conjured up a clear glass jar. Then she did a simple charm and produce blue bell flames in the jar. She put the jar between them."There we go" she said with a grin. Even simple magic brought a smile to Meera's face. She would never be thankful enough to God to have this gift. She laughed as Karl said meeting Kush would be nice. She avoided the fact that it was another compliment. She got many of those but most of them were from boys who were jerks. Karl was nice and she was not going to start questioning his compliments. "I'm sure Kush would be happy to meet someone from my school as well" she said politely as she was unsure whether she should thank him or not.

Meera watched Karl and listened carefully as he spoke on the topic of girlfriends. His reply was not something she expected. There was a big hint, mixed with compliments and the declaration that he was single and Meera had no idea on how to respond. She lowered her eyes from his face and looked at the blue bell flames instead as the color of her cheeks rose slightly from Karl's words. It felt nice to hear something like this from a decent guy like Karl but she was not sure what to make of it. She was trying to be friends with him and if it ended up differently Alice was probably going to be mad. "Umm...I am from this world" she said with a shrug her voice low and unsure. She hoped that what she had understood from his words meant this otherwise her statement would be completely foolish. This was the exact kind of thing that made her uncomfortable around guys. You need to overcome this. Don't be a coward. Say something smart and nice. Challenge him her mind instructed her. She was not sure if she could do all that. Maybe this was what she needed. A decent guy, a proper relationship. "And what did you plan to do after meeting this special one?" she asked after she had found her voice again. It was a start. She plucked up all the courage and raised her eyes up to meet his face again. The way the blue bell flames were dancing between them and lighting up his face made all this even more scary and hard to tackle.

He had struck true. As much as he could gather from what he had just heard. Amazed, truly stupefied by the fact that his unnatural and rather peculiar way of showing his feelings had been successful. A part of him, just as the last word left his mouth, immediately was struck by the thought that Meera would take him as a ludicrous chap and simply walk away. However, she had reacted exactly the way he had played it in his head. He was glad she had caught the reference to her in the image of the dream. It wasn't an invented scene, he had truly experienced it in his head one night. As he lay, knees crossed, on his bed, it had come as a sudden flash in his meditation, a beautiful and magical image of a woman walking towards him with that same, breath taking smile of the girl standing in front of him. He hadn't forgotten it ever since, always taking a few minutes a day to speculate on what could have provoked the dream, something he had never felt or done before. He knew it was a sign, perhaps provoked in some way by his gift. Superstitious, he knew, and that was precisely the reason why he had kept it to himself all these months, searching, always on the lookout. It was not often that someone received a sign like this, and despite himself, despite all he had ever thought and believed in, knew to be true to the very end.

Now he knew why he had engaged in a conversation with Meera in the first place - he had seen her, and, that overwhelming feeling of superstition and belief had yet again took its toll. He had spoken to her, they had met, slowly started to trust each other, and here he was, simply a quarter of an hour in her presence, telling her she was the girl from his dream. The peak of insanity. But that's what inner feelings were all about, he supposed. It drove one to great heights and made one do things he deemed impossible.

All these thoughts passed through him in a heartbeat, and he knew what he must do. He gave a small nod of consent to her statement about good muggles. It was a true statement, and he dearly wished all of them were like that. After all, wizards, for the most part, were nothing to fear. A grin appeared on his face at the fire she conjured. He had always enjoyed fires, from the old fireplaces back home to the ones his father used to make when they went fishing. At last, he mustered all the courage he had, took her hand into his in a firm grip, and inclined himself towards her, the gleam in his eyes as strong as ever, pretty clear about what he was about to do.

OOCOut of Character:
I think this is a decent way to really point out Meera's reaction at this. :)

Once Meera had asked Karl her question she regretted it. She was not sure if she could handle the answer. They were being honest with each other and she hated the fact that no matter how much she tried she could not be completely honest with him. If something went wrong then it would be so terrible, Meera was not sure if she was ready for this. Lake and Adoh, both had been in her life for a very brief period but Karl was in her school. If she messed up she would forever regret it and she was not sure if Alice would forgive her. If she ruined her friendship with Karl, Alice would be angry for sure but if Meera allowed it to go to the next level and then backed out she was not sure how Alice would react. When Karl took her hand in his, Meera's chocolate brown eyes became bigger. His touch felt warm, or maybe that was the heat from the flames, she was not sure. It was different than how she had felt with the other boys. This was confident and true, something that seemed like it could last. Meera knew that Karl had pictured someone like herself coming into his life but Meera had never even considered the idea of having a boyfriend before today. Her parents would not approve and she would have to hide it. It was just too complicated. Plus all the rumors about her and Lake were still going around school and if her friendship with Karl changed to something more, people would not stop, ever. Maybe they were right. She was a guy magnet. She was sure there was no veela blood in India and her mother was muggle born but whatever was causing her to be the magnet was very prominent and always active. A thousand thoughts ran through her head as she realized Karl inclining himself towards her.

She did not want to ruin. If she left now that would be the end of this. She would fail at another attempt with a guy. Maybe she should just let destiny run its course and not interfere. The first thoughts of leaning away from Karl stopped in her head and she kept her position. She could feel his breath as he came closer. In the next few seconds she felt his lips on her as he kissed her. She hoped that allowing him to kiss her would mean that she had not ruined it. She did not do anything to stop him, or even break the kiss neither did she kiss back. It was too hard for her to decide what to do. She needed Alice but if Alice found out about this she might be mad at both of them, she had to keep it a secret, for a while at least. She realized her cheek was wet and a tear had slid down from her eye. She could not believe she was crying. She had not meant to. It was so many emotions and problems all scooped up together. "I'm sorry" she said wiping away her tear. She did not want Karl to think she was a baby or a drama queen. After all who cried when they were kissed? "This was not because you kissed me, that was good" she explained quickly. She was so hopeless at this. Maybe Karl would know how to set things right. She met his eyes again and saw them gleaming, like they had all afternoon. She though she was being a b!tch giving him mixed signals. First she asked him what he would do, now that he had kissed her, she had teared up.

tried to bring in some cho chang style ;)

As soon as their lips touched, an immense wave of different feelings came over Karl. His boyish side was as joyous as it had ever been, rejoicing in what was happening. He immediately realized that he had gone too far this time. Even as he approached her, he saw a mixture of confusion and fear in her eyes. He was lost in the moment, but that didn't stop him for feeling sorry for what he had done. She seemed to be exasperated, but desperate, by the looks of things, not to let him down. He had put her in an impossible situation. At the precise moment she shed that faithful tear, he pulled back, clinging on her hand despite himself, eager to comfort her, to let her know nothing was wrong. It was a fake feeling he was trying to create though. Nevertheless, hanging on to everything he had ever believed in, concerning both girls and life itself, he did not let go. He did not simply walk away, as maybe some would have expected him to do. He was afraid now, of what he would do next. But he fought the feeling. She needed him here now, was probably expecting him to rectify the situation. And he would do just that.

Moving away so as not to disturb her any longer, he bid her to stand closer to the fire she had conjured, now a blur as the sky darkened, and perhaps because she had lost her concentration on it. A simple spell, but it required some focus to keep it alive. It didn't matter now. " You should know, I haven't had much experience at this, but I have to confess it felt good. " the last part was another slip that he couldn't stop. He had to stop these impulsive remarks. They only made things worse. But how could he hide one of the best moments in his life? Despite all that was going through his head right now, he could help but feel simply happy. A mystery that had knitted its net around him for so long had finally been unveiled. " Now, tell me. Is there anything I should know? Anything at all that would help you take this load off your shoulders? I'd understand if you don't want to talk about it, but I feel entwined in it already anyway. " it was the best way he could think of. Not a great move, he was sure, but he had be certain if she trusted him enough to be honest with him. In the end, after looking at her, staring deeply into her eyes, trying to unravel the feelings hidden there, he added a simple: " And i'm sorry. "

OOCOut of Character:
Not sure if this would work in real life at all. :D

Meera tried to clear her mind so that she could think properly. As she focused once again on her surroundings she realized the blue bell flame that she had conjured was dying. Focus, that was she was lacking at the moment. As her head cleared some more she realized that she was not being princess-like at all. She was not being brave and confident, and she was crying! Princesses never showed an emotion like that in public no matter what situation they were thrown into and this was just some simple boy trouble. The thought made her smile as she tried to calm down. As Karl admitted that he had felt pretty good kissing her, it made her blush once again. She could not hide a small smile that now formed on her lips. The way Karl was being honest and confident impressed her a little. Most boys were not like him and she felt glad that he was different and she was here getting to know him. Meera was now considering the idea of a future for herself with someone stable and nice like Karl. It would not only be fun but it would teach her a lot of things that she needed to know about boys. But what had just happened was going too fast and nothing good ever came out of that.

Karl's question was pretty straight forward and it made Meera realize even more how nice and caring he was. She wanted him to know what was in her mind because that was the only way things would work out smoothly. "There has been too much gossip about me. If we're seen together it would just increase. Can you handle that? I try my best to ignore it" she said to Karl, her tone becoming more serious. "And Alice. If something goes wrong between us, she'll be mad" Meera added. She did not want to keep this from Alice. It might be the start of something new, something that would bring happiness to her life and she wanted to share it with her best friend. Meera took in a deep breath, feeling guilty as she watched Karl apologize. She was making it difficult for him. Any other girl would have been so happy with all this. "It's okay" she said with a shrug. There was only one way to make sense of all this. It was going to be super new but they had to give it a shot because leaving their friendship at a first kiss stage was just going to be awkward. "Can we go slow, please?" she asked him politely. She wanted to try this but not at the rate at which Karl was planning to take it. "I suggest a date" she said shyly, deeply blushing with a slight smile on her face as she looked at Karl waiting for his opinion on the matter.

Karl felt the tension rise, then fall periodically. He was slowly recovering from the overwhelming feelings that he had provoked with his actions, both in himself and in Meera. Starting to think in his ordinary fashion again, he gazed towards the sky and noticed something interesting - a few of the stars had grouped together, forming, in his imagination of course, a diamond. He played a memory through his head of a girl screaming and jumping at the sight of an over sized diamond that she had received for he birthday. What was it? Diamonds were a girl's best friend. The vision and the memory must have been provoked by the current situation. He had nothing against it. A sudden burst of happiness filled Karl. He had done something he had never believed capable of him. And he was content.

Focusing on the matter at hand, he carefully listened to what she had to say. He did not find himself bothered by the fact that she wanted to take things slow. He knew the feeling of ugly gossip going on about him, and he could only imagine what that could feel like to a girl. She must be really bothered by this, and who am I to make it even more complicated?, was the first thought that came to him. And then came the reference to Alice. That definitely made sense to him, as the two seemed to be very good friends. He liked Alice, she was definitely someone you could trust, and he understood Meera's worries about letting her down. He thought a bit about what to say. Her last suggestion really let him know where things were going - she was serious about him, and that only made him smile even in even wider fashion, both on the inside and on the outside. After a quick moment of silence, he replied: " I definitely know what it feels like, and handling it can really be one of the most difficult thinks one can do. I've never aspired to be a particularly aggressive person, but it's gossip that can really drive me mad. Anything you want me to do, i'll do it. I'm sure it's for a good cause. " he smiled and caught her hand again, adding the same gleam in his eyes that had temporarily disappeared. " A date it is, just say where. " he deliberately didn't mention an explicit time, to let her know he was always at her disposal. He had to begin gaining her trust from this moment on.

A few years back, when Meera was very young her mother had told her all guys want just one thing from a woman. When Meera had asked what that thing was, her mother had said that when she would be older she would know. Some years later Meera came to realize what her mother was referring to and as most of the guys she met always wanted to hook up with her, her opinion of guys had been made. Now, meeting someone nice like Karl she could not believe how wrong she had been when she had thought all guys were same. Meera could bet that if she had asked Adoh to take things slow he would have probably left because the only thing he wanted was her attention and to make out with her but here was Karl, agreeing to the very idea most guys frowned at. She smiled as she heard him talk about how gossip made him mad, too. She raised her eyebrow as he continued to say that he would do anything that she wanted him to. Those kind of statements could only be used when one was speaking to a royal and even though Meera was one, Karl did not know that and she did not want to be treated like that. She wanted him to have an opinion on everything and speak his heart. She wanted a little challenge. "You can't do everything I say. I might be the devil in disguise" she warned him hoping he'd take the hint.He was picturing her like some special angel but Meera was afraid that if something went wrong his heart would break and she did not want him to get his hopes so high. "We've just met. You can't trust me so much. You might end up hurt" she explained, her tone serious because this was how her mind worked and she wanted him to have his guard up too. She then realized she was being too harsh on him. He had just discovered some happiness that he had been waiting for and even though she did not have any feelings for him yet, she did not want to hurt him by being harsh. Meera knew that if they dated there would be a dozen of problems, the biggest one being her parents. She was planning to hide it from them and if they found out she would just tell them that she was trying to be normal and blend in.

She smiled at Karl as he accepted the idea that she had suggested. She realized he taken hold of her hand once again. It was going to take some time to get used to this, she thought, the smile still on her face. She tried to think about where they could go. It was making her nervous, the idea of her first date. It had to be somewhere nice and away from school. She did not want people to stare just yet. She thought of the first available date when they were having a village trip. It was 14rth Feb. The village close to the school would just be too crowded and same old, boring. "Can you apparate?" she asked Karl. They could go to the village and then apparate to some nice place. "Our first village trip is on 14rth Feb. There is this place, in another village. Its a cafe and it sells some of the finest pastries and cakes" she informed Karl wondering if he knew the place she was referring to. It was far from school and from the village where all the students would be and that was exactly what Meera wanted. All her previous village trips were spent with Alice shopping some necessary school supplies and candies. She would have to come up with a good excuse to get out of that. She considered the idea of sending her other roommate Charlotte with Alice. Meera thought about what excuse she could make. Homework or detention was just out of question because Alice knew well that Meera was always up to date with homework and never got detentions. She could not use Qudditch too. Family obligation was the only good thing that she could think of for now. Alice might insist on meeting Meera's family and frankly Meera wanted her family to meet Alice too, she had no idea how she would refuse Alice from joining her.

As he considered her words, Karl quickly realized what he had said was a show of blind confidence and belief. She was correct of course! He had been foolishly lost in the moment, his brain cells seeming to stop their ordinary functioning, and producing things that he would never otherwise say, or even think. It was reckless, and he regretted it. His distraction didn't come as a surprise to him though. He was definitely, as one could read in romantic books - lost in the eyes before him. That certainly would provoke more waves of recklessness and meaningless promises. Meera's warnings were well placed, and he was grateful for that. It was with a look of surprise that he regarded her reference to devils. He didn't consider himself a religious person, but he would never use such a figure to develop an idea. But everyone had their views, and he wasn't going to go on criticizing someone at the first meeting, even more so in this case, when he was trying to make the best impression possible. He did his discontent, and smiled again as she moved on to the subject about the eventual date. A suspicion started to creep into him though, which troubled him, but which he had expected - it would be a long time before Meera developed the feeling he currently possessed for her. He supposed this was the usual way people who wanted to have a serious relationship with someone acted, but he couldn't help but wonder and hope how long it would take. Despite his thoughts, he really wished they could go, with the flick of a finger, to a stage of their relations where they both trusted each other and aspired for a joyous future together. Feeling all this was quite childish, he pushed these thoughts out of his mind.

As she advanced towards the more pressing matter, considered as much by Karl's inner self, still paralyzed by the events that had just taken place, his anxiety rose considerably. As he listened to her proposal, a thought struck him. Wasn't 14th of February Valentine's day? He decided not to tell her, though. For now. He wondered if that was a sort of betrayal towards her, for as she wanted to be alone, that was the day when, being in the village, full of couples, it was the least likely for them to have the solitude she so desired. He played it safe, deciding to tell her later, when the bond between had strengthened. " " Apparition has never been on my number one wish list, but we can do it together, I believe. That wouldn't be a great problem. As for the place, it sounds good, a little solitude would do us nothing but good. But perhaps a picnic in the open? I don't consider myself a great fan of patisserie. We could always stop by there and get some if you so wish. " It was a show of deeper liberty of mind and opinion that she had referred to in her earlier comment, he was sure, but he felt it was necessary to deepen the connection and understanding between them. After all, he had to be if not commanding, at least at the same level of opinion as she, lest their relationship would have no sense being called so.

OOCOut of Character:
You can agree or not with the idea. :D And the hiding of the Valentine's day, I think it'll add a bit of suspense for later.

Just the thought of lying to her best friend made Meera feel guilty. Maybe there was another way. Perhaps, they could be around Alice together. That would make it easier for Alice to believe and be okay with everything that was happening. Alice was bound to be happy seeing them talking and hanging out. It would be a win for Meera on her being friends with boys mission. Later, perhaps, they would flirt with each other in her presence and let her develop the idea that a possibility of them being together, could exist. They had only a week before they would go for their first date and if maybe, by then they would work all this out then Alice could be told the truth. Meera could still feel the warmth from Karl's hand in hers. It made her feel more confident. He would be there with her as he had promised. She shook her head as he suggested they could apparate together. She was in her fifth year and so far they had not even practiced apparation once. "I can't apparate. We could use another source of transport if you're not comfortable with apparation. You'll have to apparate me on top of yourself and we don't want to get splinched" she said thinking practically about the situation. One of the rule of being a princess was that a princess could not do anything that would harm her health and even though all this would be done secretly, her princess mind was always at work. They could use brooms. From how much they had talked so far she was sure that Karl was okay with those. But I'll have to wear pants then, she thought.Jeans or pants was something Meera avoided. Her fashion was more based on skirts and dresses. As the thoughts about what she would wear crossed her mind she realized something. For the first time she had not given much importance to fashion. Normally she always looked at the clothes one wore before she started getting friendly but with Karl she had forgotten to check that. She could be mad sometimes and her obsession with fashion was one thing that made her mad. As Karl was average good looking, most of the clothes would look good on him. For now, he was dressed in casuals, as it was obviously just another random day which had turned to special. One couldn't have got dressed for something like today beforehand.

Meera was a little shocked when Karl said he was not a fan of pastries! She tried to hide her shock but failed. "Umm... no pastries? There's so much we don't know about each other. Do you like cakes or bread? Anything baked?" she said lost in her shock. That's rude she reminded herself. Everyone had their opinion and she had just given Karl a lecture on telling her about his. Before today she had not given much consideration to what boys would like. "I'm sorry. Most people I know like pastry but then again I don't know many people" she blabbered. She hoped he would understand and not be offended by her craziness. She liked his idea of a picnic. She hadn't been to one in a long time. "Picnic sounds great. Yes, we can stop by and get some.Do you want me to take something for you. Sandwiches, maybe?" she asked him. She could just tell the cooking staff of school to have some ready for them if he wanted. She looked at her surrounding and realized it was getting darker by the minute. She checked her watch again. It was seven thirty- dinner time at Beaux. The idea of entering the hall late, together with Karl, scared her but she needed to overcome this fear. "It's almost dinner time. Would like to sit with Alice and me?" she asked him with a smile. Maybe that would be a start in letting Alice know.

He knew their solitude and the conversation that he had imagined would go on forever would end at some point. He just didn't want to believe it at the moment. There were so many things he wanted to ask of Meera, but yet again he had a flashback to reality by the simple fact that it had gotten late. He had no idea how long the two had been there talking, he had lost track of time, he realized as he looked around and noticed the sky was a lot darker than he remembered it. Again he wondered how a simple meeting with someone could change his life so much, in one simple afternoon. All their surroundings had disappeared in his mind, and he was left there, ignorant of all that was happening around him. A volcano could have erupted and he probably wouldn't have noticed. Never had he felt so happy, yet so lost at the same time.

The state of disturbance left him as quickly as it had appeared in his mind. He didn't know what had come over him, but with a small call of Earth to Karl to himself helped him regain his concentration and confidence. Of course she would be shocked he didn't like pastry. But that was the case. It had always seemed strange as much to others than to Karl himself that he didn't possess the common love for all things baked. Especially for the French, who were famous with their breads and pastries. It was unusual, that much was clear. But, he reminded himself, everyone had their particularities. This was his, like it or not. He decided not to tell Meera all this. Something nudged him from the inside that made him think she was hiding something big, a secret that would change everyone's opinion about her. It wouldn't be right if he didn't have any to surprise her as well. So, wearing the same smile he had all afternoon, sincerity shining in his eyes, he said: " Yeah, bread's all right, i'm just not to keen on all the sugary fantasies people seem to have about cakes and the sort. I hope that won't turn into a big issue, though. " The last comment was more a joke than a remark of concern. Nonetheless, he didn't dwell long on this, as he added: " Yeah, we'd better get back to the castle. I'm not a great fan of being outside in the dark. " He got up and, removing a few peaces of torn grass from his shirt, he offered Meera a hand to help her get up. A sign of courtesy his parents had taught him. Simple, but it made an impression, they had said. " I'd love to have a chat with Alice again, that's for sure. She's a kindred soul. " He had expected of course that a relationship with Meera would involve a lot of contact with Alice, but as he thought about it, nothing but positive ideas came to his mind. She would play a contributing role to all this, he knew, and he was glad she was around to help them.
