It had been nearly three years since Selene and Poppy had started dating. It had been a hard few years, but Poppys presence, support and love had made all of the worst days bearable and the good days incredible. Today was a good day, she had recently been offered the job she had been dreaming of since she was thirteen, and she was excited to share the news with her girlfriend. She had invited Poppy over for a dinner date night and had spent most of the day prepping and cooking, making a fancy Italian meal for them. She had made arancini with mozzarella and tomato for starters, eggplant parmesan and a salad with ingredients picked fresh from the garden (using one of her favourite charms to make plants grow to fruit when needed, though she knew not to overuse it for the plant's sake) for the main course, and a tiramisu for dessert. She wanted tonight to be special. The food was ready to go, the dishes cleaned by magic and put away, which was another one of her favourite and most well-used of charms, as she set the table. she had decided that despite it being winter they would sit outside under the cottage's back veranda so they could see the garden which she had lit with fairy lights in the trees and flower beds giving it the feel of a winter wonderland and with the patio heated with blankets on the chares if they wanted them and candles on the table she was happy that it looked cozy and romantic, and she just hoped that poppy liked it.

Poppy had lost track of time, which wasn't unusual for her but on tonight of all nights she cursed her thoughtlessness as she rushed to get out of the door. She had just been contracted to do some illustrations for a new herbology book being published and some how she had gotten lost trying to render a mandrakes scrunched up face just right before she realized the time. She had gotten dressed in a hurry and had remembered at least to wash at least most of the ink from her hands before heading out the door. She thanked the stars for apparition and she arrived at the front gate of the cottage in the blink of an eye. It didn't make up for her initial tardiness but at least she hadn't needed to walk here. The smell of the dinner waiting for her reached her out the way out here and she rushed to close the distance to where Selene was waiting for her. The back garden looked gorgeous as always and she planted a kiss on her girlfriends cheek before sitting down across from her. "I'm so sorry darling." she said in a rush."One second I was making my morning coffee and sitting down to work and suddenly it was dark and I could hardly see the page in front of me!" she rambled. "Oh! the food looks lovely, I'm absolutely starving." Finally she took a breath, and waited for Selene's response to see if there was more groveling in her future.

Selene had taken a seat on the old rocking chair that she had spent many an afternoon sitting on with Morgan across from her, drinking tea and talking, the past, the present, the future; about the world they all seemed to blur into one. thisevening as she sat her cat freya jumped onto her lap and promptly fell asleep as she rocked and waited and let memories flood around her with a soundtrack of sleepy purrs.
a little while later she heard a click of a latch as the gete opened. She looked up and saw poppy walking up the path towards her. She picked up the cat and placed her on the chair before she straightened her skirt before greeting her girlfriend with a hug and a kiss. "oh, poppy, you dont need to worry. there is nothing wrong with getting engrossed in your work, its one of the things i love about you" she said, it wasnt somethgn she could say she had done recently but when sheh ad been on an archeological site she could often be found so engrossed in her work she had to be reminded to eat, and maybe she would soon love her job that much again. "besides, i wasnt waiting long and the food isnt getting cold. " she said takingher seat at the table. she smiled as poppy said the food looked lovely. "thank you. I thought we should do something special tonight." she admitted offering the aranchini to her. some of them were a little misshapen but she was pretty proud of what she had made.
