A Day for Learning

Alexa finished her lessons for the day and smiled now it was time for another lesson. A lesson she was actually excited for. She made her way to the out skirts of town where no one would find them and stumbled in on the lesson. She had already learned a few things from Andrew and she enjoyed the power the dark arts were giving her.

Wandering off the road she sat down by a tree that Andrew had described in the letter he had sent her a few days earlier. Of coruse she had to memorize the letter and then burn it to prevent her brothers from every finding out where she went after lessons, not that either of them cared anyways.

It was almost sundown when Andrew got off his shift from St.Mungo's. He was not going to the Poison Ater for another two hours because it was around eight thirty in the night when the crowd started and by then he would be on Adira's side overseeing everything and helping her but for now he was going to meet Alexa. He had arranged today's meeting on the outskirts on New Zealand where he knew a fine warehouse which was not being used and would be the ideal place for practice. Apparating to the destination he had described Alexa in his letter he smiled pleased to see her being there ahead of time.

"Good evening Alexa" he said greeting the girl whom he was mentoring for some time now. After two meetings he had stopped referring to her as his experiment and used the word 'his student' when he thought about her progress in his mind. She was bright and was picking up all he taught quite well and it was interesting to teach her the introductions to Dark Arts and curses because as she was being home schooled he was quite sure that her subjects did not include what she learned from him during these lessons. "I hope you've been practicing on what we tried last time" he said as he led her to the abandoned warehouse which was just some distance away.

Alexa slightly jumped at the noise of a pop near by. She knew it was just a person apparating near by but the noise always suprised her. Turning she saw her mentor Andrew with a smile she followed him to the warehouse she hadn't seen before. "Good Evening," she replied being very used to having to met him a night. "I have been practicing," she told him. The Dark Arts she had found out were very interesting to learn about and she enjoyed stopping by stores in Bleak Street were she first met Andrew to read books on the subject and look at the curious potions and such they had there.

Andrew had expected her to be practicing because she was better than the others and that is why he had offered her his help and she knew that. He had planned to have her practice the Cruciatus curse because he knew that whatever tutor she had certainly wasn't having her have a practical approach at the unforgivable curses which were after all the base of the Dark Arts. As the entered the big dusty warehouse Andrew waved his wand and lit the oil lamps. "Have you ever tried any of the unforgivable curses?"he asked her. Of course he meant having tried them on small animals. If she had tried it, tried but not succeeded it would come to her faster, if however she had never tried them it would take time because it wasn't like a teenager decided to curse someone and they could do it, they would have to mean it, for real.

Alexa blinked at the sudden light in the warehouse put her eyes adjusted more quickly then usual but she alert. Ready for any suprise tests he could pull on her she held her wand in her hand but in a relaxed way so she didn't seem nervous. "Imperio," she said softly over to where he was standing. Many times since he first taught her the words to the spell she had forced a spider to bend at her will and finally walk around where she wanted, but that had taken awhile. She knew it was an unforgivable curse but she didn't feel uncomfortable in using it on a harmless insect, a person she knew would be different. Being more practiced would be key to be able to perform any spell on another human being, she hoped they could work on the unforgivables tonight but dind't say so, not wanting to be demanding.

Andrew watched Alexa waiting for an answer to whether she had tried them but instead she decided to cast it on him. He wasn't expecting it to work, not just yet and that was precisely what happened. "Small insects and animals are a lot easier than human beings" he told her taking it that she had practiced the spell previously on smaller bases. "We can try the Imperious Curse today and leave the Cruciatus curse for next time" he said as he waved his wand summoning a few small animals from the country side non verbally.

Soon in front of them were a squirrel, a cat and a goat and with the next wave of wand Andrew had all of them tied up with ropes so they couldn't escape. "The unforgivable curses only work if you really mean them" he continued explaining Alexa further on the nature of the unforgivables. "The amount of time for which the curse lasts on your victim depends on your strength" he added. "You can start with the squirrel and if you succeed in managing the goat you can try it on me" he said with a smirk. He knew Alexa had the thing to grasp things very fast yet this curses where rather difficult and even he had taken a lot of time to master them when he was sixteen.

"Spiders are pretty easy to control," Alexa said with a small laugh. She watched as a few animals came into warehouse. Leaning on her left foot she looked at them as he pointed out the squirrel then the goat. "You?!" She squeked in suprise that he would let her point her wand at him. She wouldn't have very good control of things just yet even if she did manage the other two, things could go wrong.

Turning back to the animals she nodded her head getting over the suprise she looked between the squirrel and cat knowing she had to start with the squirrel. Holding her wand towards the squirrel she gave it a wave. "Imperio," she said in a stronger voice then before. She waited as the squirrel gave over control just as the spider had but it took more time. Slowly the small animal began to use it's hands to untie itself as she wanted. Once it was done it hopped the way over to her and she leaned down and petted it's head. "I've always wanted to pet a squirrel but I was afraid of getting bitten," she said looking over at Andrew as she gave up control on the squirrel and let it run away.

Andrew watched Alexa say Spiders were easy, it was true even Andrew had begun with Spiders. "Yes. I believe the effect wouldn't last long so there won't be any harm done" he said with a wink watching Alexa squeak on the idea of him letting her target him. He leaned back on one of the huge containers and watched as she practiced soon having the squirrel under her control. He smirked as she expressed being scared of getting bitten by the squirrel. He wondered what she would do if he gifted her a snake sometime, would she be afraid, if yes he had to teach her not be have fear of anything, especially not of animals who were inferior in all ways. "When you have the cat under control, don't let it go. We can see how long she obeys you" he told her as he watched Alexa let go the squirrel.

Alexa nodded to him as he spoke. She wasn't sure if what he meant was good or not, the effect wouldn't last long. "Of course," she said before diving into controlling the squirrel.

Alexa looked over at him not sure if he thought she was doing well or not. Her normal studies tutor always praised them when a spell went well but nothing came from Andrew. Shaking it off she looked over at the cat concentrating on it. With a flick of her wand the ropes fell lose and she quickly had the cat under the imperious curse having the cat walk in easy circles as she watched the cat straight on and everything else in her perphial vision. The cat was tougher then the squirrel having a larger brain and most certainly was smarter, right now Alexa was looking forward to the small brained goat that was next. Her spell lasted on the cat for a good 10 mins when she finally broke her concentration on the cat because she was getting tired. Looking up at Andrew she was silently asking if she did good or not while trying to control her breathing pattern once again.

Andrew watched as Alexa controlled the cat for a good ten minutes, he was definitely impressed however he did not say so because he didn't want her to be over confident or anything. He noticed her breathing pattern changed when she controlled the animals, it was almost as if she was controlling her breath so she couldn't lose her focus, it usually happened but with practice it would be gone. "Very good" he said with a smile finally realizing that she was fifteen and couldn't figure out the reasons to his silence. "If you keep practicing you'll no longer be having any different breathing patterns than your usual. And patience is the key. Of course right now time is not on our side but you can practice at home perhaps for longer time because when your victim is a human you can't get tired or bored or else you might find yourself being the victim"he explained Alexa before motioning her to continue on to the goat.

Alexa made a mental note of keeping her breathing normal when she practiced at home before the next lesson. She was pleased that she was improving and doing well, of course she had a long ways before she would even be considered a master of the dark arts but it was in her future that much was certain. "Alright, I didn't even realize it changed," she said wondering how her breathing pattern did change, but she was most likely to focused on the spell to even notice it. Facing the goat she quickly unbinded it like she had with the cat. "Imperio," she said focusing on the goat making sure now she wasn't putting all her focus in the spell. Instead she focused some of her attention on what she wanted the goat to do and partial attention on her breathing pattern noting how her body changed with the power of the spell.

Andrew nodded and went to being silent again as he watched Alexa's progress on the goat and her control on her breath. She was getting better with every try, he was almost wondering if she would have him under the curse and if yes, what she would make him do. "You can ask it to kill itself by running into that iron rod" he told Alexa. If the goat was completely under her control it would obey her at once, if not it would hesitate and get confused. He awaited to see what happened next.

Alexa glanced over at Andrew she knew she would have to kill something in front of him eventually. She was glad he didn't ask her to kill the cat, having one at home it would've been hard. With the goat she hadn't ever liked them to begin with so she instantly had the goat back up a few feet so it could get a head start which would mean a faster death for it. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath not wanting to lose focus now. Opening them as she breathed out she looked at the goat and made it run as fast as the legs it had could and it went right into the bar at full speed. Calculating the distnace and speed she knew she had been smart to make it back up first, it would still be alive after hitting the pole if she hadn't, she only hoped Andrew wouldn't mind, after all a faster death gives the opponent less chance to fight back. Lowering her wand as the goat's bahs died out she turned towards her mentor no emotion on her face, most because she didn't know what to think.

Andrew watched as the goat obeyed Alexa's command and ran itself into the iron rod thus killing itself. He was pleased that Alexa had made it back up first otherwise the goat would not have died soon enough. He smiled slightly happy by Alexa's fast progress. "That was very good" he told her as he looked at his pocket watch. It was her turn to try it on him but first Andrew was going to have her try on something else. "Do you know how to apparate?"he asked her. He wasn't sure if she knew apparation but then he wondered how she had come to this place on her own.

Alexa nodded at his compliment she didn't want anything to go to her head, she did have to try to control him next after all. His next question shocked her. She wasn't at the age for apparation she thought he would have known that. "No I don't. I have to fly or walk everywhere," she admitted to him but she wasn't disappointed with her answer next year she would get the chance to learn apparation from her school mentor along with her brother Jace. Alexa looked over at him in a questioning manner wondering what he was planning now. Maybe now that she had controlled all the animals he was nervous about her controlling him, though she doubted being able to control him very well or for very long .

Andrew heard her reply and nodded. Of course she was fifteen she couldn't apparate, it had slipped of his mind. However he knew Alexa had great potential and she too would not realize that unless he put her to some test. All lessons so far had been easy and between them where she practiced and he instructed. Today, he wanted to give her a challenge which she was to face before she had a chance to try the curse on him. Of course he would let her do it because he was a man of his word but first he wanted to see how she handled the challenge.

"I'd like to see you try the Imperious curse on another human before you do it on me" he told her as he waved his wand and from the corner of the warehouse came a broomstick. It wasn't new nor was it fast but it would do the job. "Fly for two minutes on this path and you'll come across a big oak tree. Touch the ground and I'll be there waiting for you. There is a crazy muggle who lives by the tree, I want you to put the curse on him" he told her the plan he had for her with a smirk. He wondered if Alexa was up for the challenge. "He is a nut case. I'll take away his memory once its done and you can do the curse on me if you succeed"he added.

Alexa nodded, of course who would want someone that barely knew the spell to cast to be the first human they cast it on. A part of her hoped she didn't do it right with the old man, and the other, the more stronger part knew she should do it right she had to prove herself worthy of learning the dark arts.

"Right, see you in a few then," she said getting on the broom. She never really flew before which seemed it might be a problem as she took off following the path. Sure it was faster then walking or running but she managed to slip off a few times and end in the dirt. When she arrived to the big oak tree she was pretty sure that all her clothing was slightly brown from the dirt and she only hoped no one would notice when she got home. Landing on the ground she looked around for her menor and noticed the house of the old man instead.

Andrew smiled as Alexa got onto her broomstick. He too was as curious as her wanting to know if she was going to manage to cast the spell on the old muggle. He apparated and two seconds later appeared near the oak tree he had described to her. Standing by the tree he noticed that Alexa was flying towards the tree and had noticed the house. The old muggle was fixing his car and was not aware that two people had just appeared behind him. He nodded at Alexa wanting her to continue. He watched in silence hoping that his student would succeed.

sorry for taking so much time

Alexa nodded to Andrew when she noticed him not far from him. She turned and saw the muggle working on his car infront of his house. Moving closer towards the old man she held up her hand with her wand in it. "Imperio," she said fiercly and watched as the beam went out to the old man who instantly stood up straight. She turned him around and looked at him he had fear in his eyes, it was a completely unwelcomed sensation running through him as she controled him. Alexa blocked the image of his eyes from her mind as she made him walk up the steps of his house and back. Glancing at Andrew she remembered to check her breathing and keep it as normal as possibly.

Andrew watched with curiosity on what the outcome of the strength of Alexa's spell would be. As he heard her cast it on the muggle who was working on his car, he smiled with pleasure as she made him walk up and down his own stairs. Her breathing was better controlled than it had previously been. He nodded at her and waited for her to lift the spell off him. Then he muttered "Obliviate" and pointed his wand at the old muggle and watched his eyes become unfocused as the memory of the past few minutes was wiped from his mind. "Time to go Alexa" he said with a grin as he got hold of her wrist and turned on the spot and they were back at the old warehouse.

"You can use it on me" he said smiling at Alexa because she had after all passed his challenge. He put his wand back into his robes and waited for his student to cast the spell on him. He had previously only twice experienced being under the imperious curse and that was when they were being taught about it in Defence Against the Dark Arts.

Alexa watched as she let her control of the old man go and Andrew erased his memory. Suddenly he was taking a hold of her wrist and she felt the awful sensation of apparation. "Ugh," she said holding her head once they were in the warehouse. She was glad to be back there, it was more undercover then the old mans house had been, Alexa didn't want to be caught by the authorites for using the unforgivable curses, but she needed to know them.

Alexa turned to him her hadn going back down to her side as he told her she could put the curse on him. She nodded her head and held out her wand preparing herself inside for the power she would have to use to control him. "Imperio," she muttered outloud and watched as the spell went out and hit him. She decided to check her breathing before she made him move once she was sure her breathing was as normal as possible she urged her mentor to move forward and backward. He had more restistance then the old man did, he was used to magic though.

Sorry I took ages to reply

Andrew appeared once again the old warehouse with Alexa by his side. She had suceeded in the challange he had placed upon her and now he was going to allow her to try the curse on him. He stood there, clearing his mind and making sure he gave her a good fight back. As the incantation left Alexa's lips Andrew held his focus yet for a few seconds his mind went into peaceful mode and he took a few steps and came back but more than half of his mind was very well aware of the resistance he was putting against the curse. It seemed stupid to made to be walk forth and back and at this thought, after a full ten seconds under the curse he had a clear head once again. "That was very good" he told her with a smile. "I had an advantage since I knew I was going to be under it, yet it was a very good attempt" he said to her. He was glad that she was showing so much progress in so little time. "It's time we returned you to your home" he told Alexa as he put his hand forward for her to hold so he could transport her to her house before her family would start to get suspicious.

Alexa nodded to his compliment on the curse, of course she knew it wasn't the best she could have done. However it would be good enough for the time being. She would have to practive on things bigger then spiders and other bugs she found now. She smiled in return though she hadn't wanted too. It was disappointing when a spell couldn't be held for very long, she did much better with the muggle. "Alright. Shall I keep practicing this spell? Do you want me to work on another before next time?" She asked as she took his hand preparing herself for the awful feeling of apparation. It was one feeling Alexa never enjoyed much, the feeling of being pulled and squeezed, though it would be over quick enough it was hard to get her mind back right for a few mintues.

That's okay it's like a birthday present, and it has taken me longer to reply with Sandokan, i didn't even realize you replied to him.

As they appeared right infront of Alexa's residence he nodded and said "Yes you can practice it but don't exhaust yourself" he told her with a grin before he disappeared and went on with other business. He had some important work at home with his house elf whom Andrew had given more liberty than the creature deserved.
