April was nervous. But excited! But nervous. She and Norton had had their first sort-of-date at the yule ball, but it had been awkward because they hadn't really talked about their feelings. Now they had, and they had even kissed. So April thought things might be a little less weird. She was still nervous about actually going on a date, especially with her best friend. As nice as it was to be with him, it made her nervous that their friendship was on the line. She didn't want to lose Norton as a friend. But Kauri had encouraged her, and Norton himself had suggested they gave it a try. So April was waiting near the great hall for him, dressed for the dance. She saw girls in ballgowns glide past on their way into the hall, but she figured Norton would know better than to expect her to wear anything like that. The girl tapped her foot as she waited for Norton to arrive. She really wanted to see him in his suit, and to go dancing already.

Norton was pretty much in awe that he was actually going to the dance with April his date, the girl he liked, his best friend and maybe soon his girlfriend, if things worked out. He was pretty excited but he had made some effort for this, rather than a shirt he had a t-shirt but the rest of the suit was fancy enough, a lighter colour because he thought that the plain black suits that the other boys wore were dull and boring. He liked what he wore. He thought it was nice and casual and he was sure that April would like it too. The boy spotted her at the entrance to the great hall when he finally stepped down, he had been running a little bit later than he would've wanted to, but it was still within the realm of okay. The boy bounded over to April and smiled with ease, she looked really pretty. Really pretty. "Hey April!" he said excitedly, "You look really really lovely," he wanted to say beautiful, but they were still so early on in whatever this is and he didn't want to make it weird too early on. He did lean in and give her a quick peck on the cheek, "Happy Valentines days!" he knew that he was supposed to say that and with more than just a rose. The boy looked at her, "Shall we dance?" he had the feeling this would maybe still be a bit awkward, he knew they were just trying to figure everything with them out, but he was excited about it regardless.

April's eyes lit up as soon as she spotted Norton, and her face broke into a smile. "Hi!" She said excitedly, feeling her heart flutter as she looked at him. He definitely looked handsome, and she really liked how he didn't wear the same boring suits as everyone. Black wasn't a color that would suit him very well, she thought. She grinned as he said she looked lovely, any doubts about wearing a dress immediately forgotten. "Thank you, you look really really really REALLY handsome." She said with a grin. "Happy valentine's day to you too! I liked your rose." She said, feeling a little shy. She brightened up a bit when he mentioned dancing, and nodded. "Yes! Let's go!" Without thinking, she took his hand and started leading him into the great hall.

Norton smiled at her easily, and blushed a little at the compliment, it was nice to know his effort was appreciated, ”I think we’ve matched a little here,” the boy said with a giggle, pointing between her shirt and his suit, the colours were maybe not the same, but they were close and he thought they definitely matched! He was glad she had liked the rose too, he’d definitely feared it had been a bit too formal and forward, but it was clear that she had liked it and that was good. He was looking to impress her, to make this transition easy, going from a yellow rose to a pink rose, because that was really all that they had done. He smiled easily when she agreed to dancing. He smiled when she took his hand and he squeezed it lightly, following behind her, but heading out to the dancefloor all the same, he was glad the music was a little more upbeat, that would be less awkward than when they had to slow dance, but even then, things were different now between them, maybe slow dancing woudn’t be too bad. But, regardless he was just happy to be dancing with her, which they could do with ease on their little spot on the dancefloor.

April smiled as Norton pointed out their outfits seemed to match a little. They were similar colors, and April quite liked matching with him. "I bet we'll look awesome in any photos." She said with a grin. As much as having a date was strange to her, the idea of being in Accio together was pretty nice. She blushed a little as Norton squeezed her hand, and she glanced behind her for a moment with a warm smile. April was glad the music was fun and upbeat, and she dragged Norton to the center of the dance floor, where she let go of his hand and spun around with a small whoop. Then she grinned. "I'm going to spin you!" She told Norton, taking his hand again and letting him spin under her arm.

Norton nodded eagerly in agreement, they were for sure going to look pretty amazing in any photos that were then taken by the yearbook of them. Of course they would. The hufflepuff followed behind her happily as they made their way out to the dance floor, it was easier, maybe, it felt a little easier to dance with her now. He nodded as she spoke, he would happily spin under her arm and did so when she let him. The hufflepuff laughed happily, but didn’t immediately let go of her hand. Instead his touch on it lingered for a few moments before breaking off and they began just dancing to the happy music with ease. Things felt way more normal than at the last ball they’d been at, even this kind of dancing, which had been the most natural had had an underlying weirdness. He was more than happy too to spin under her arm, she was taller it just made sense. He couldn’t stop the wide smile on his features as the boy looked at her. It just felt so nice and so good, April was the best, Norton liked her so much and this was so much fun, just like old times with her. He didn’t want to say anything, just keep dancing with her.

April was glad they weren't going to do a long mushy talk, and instead would get to dance. She whooped as they moved on the dance floor and eagerly lost herself in the fun. She grinned as Norton spun, happy to do that with him. It was easy too, as he was shorter than her. She noticed the smile on his face and smiled back. They were having a nice time and being themselves, while also being... more than friends. It was okay, and not bad at all. April finally thought she kind of understood the whole dating thing. The music changed to something slow, and she paused. Then she put her hands on Norton's shoulders. "Let's keep dancing."
