Sixth Years, Lesson Five

“Good Morning guys!” He greeted them, with the same jovial tone as always. He might be tired, and this lesson may be short, but he couldn't be tired in front of students. Misha was young, that may seem unprofessional. “Hopefully, you have done the reading, the end of the term is soon, as are your exams!” He paced slightly in front of the students, “If you have, you'll know that today we are looking at the Flame Freezing Charm. You'll also know that we need a tiny little history lesson.” A few people in the class look annoyed at this, “It'll only take a few seconds, I promise. Anyway, back about three hundred years and more, muggles preferred to burn those individuals suspected of having magic at the stake. Many of these people did not suffer a painful death, but instead had only to suffer through theatrics. How did they do this? They learned how to change the properties of fire.”

Misha smiled in the room, removed the wand from his pocket and gave it a small flick. All the things of his desk, flew off and settled themselves on the ground, not too far away. The professor walked round, so he was at the back of his table, looking out at the class. Once again, with a small flick of his wand, a tiny part of the table was set alight. The flames began to rise, and dance, as fire always did. He cast the flame Freezing charm and then placed his hand in the middle of the fire. “The Flame Freezing Charm changes the properties of fire so that its heat feels like a warm breeze. Which is why my hand is not burning. It feels like a tickling sensation against my fingers.” He removed his hand from the fire and got rid of the fire. “Now, it's your turn” Professor Misha demonstrated the spell, and reminded them that it was dangerous to play with fire, so they should be careful. “Don't worry, I will help you keep things under control, and no one can put their hand into the fire, until I have tried it myself. Outside this classroom, practice at your own risk, but please avoid burning down the school. There will no reading for next week, just revise, folks.”

-RP the lesson, attendance is fine. You don't need to practice in class, your character can just leave. Feel free to RP Misha helping you out.

Teddy liked Charms, it was probably his favourite subject, and he liked the professor too because he did things in class like setting fire to the furniture. Teddy enjoyed the demonstration and got to work trying the Flame Freezing Charm for himself. He thought it would freeze the flame, but instead it made the fire cool which was a strange feeling. Once he had mastered the charm, he was putting his hand into the fire and thinking about all the pranks he could play with this one. Once the lesson was over, he packed up and left the classroom.

On the scale of her least favourite to most favourite subjects, Charms was about squarely in the middle for Aura. She liked it more than Defence, but not as much as Care of Magical Creatures, a solid Exceeds Expectations if she was expected to rank them. The flame freezing charm especially seemed like it would be incredibly helpful a lot of the time, and so she watch the demonstration and then moved on to practicing it herself. She wasn’t exactly gifted with charms, but she was hardly a waif either. When the Professor lit his desk on fire her mind reeled and she jumped back several spaces. She stood as far away from the fire as possible, almost bumping into several classmates. It took her a moment to remember herself and she stayed on the other side of the room. This spell was hard to practice, and it took her maybe twice as long as her classmates, but she did it anyway, because she was a Chase and they didn’t let a little thing like a phobia stop them.

Dominic was sad that the semester was coming to an end soon, but he still had a couple of more weeks to go before the exams, so he was simply going to make the most of his time. With a sigh, the Hufflepuff just packed his belongings into his backpack and headed to his charms class. He entered the classroom and listened as the professor spoke about the flame freezing charm. He figured this one would be useful to help protect himself or others, so he listened intently as the professor spoke and demonstrated how to do the spell. When instructed, Dominic took out his wand and attempted the spell. It took a few tries and was harder than it looked, but eventually Dominic was able to do it, and he put his hand over the fire and didn't feel any heat at all. He thanked the professor for teaching him the charm before leaving the classroom at the end of the lesson.

Lucy was a bit panicky about the semester coming to a close, but a bit excited at the same time. The yule ball was coming up, after all. Lucy just had to make it through exams first. She sighed to herself as she entered the classroom though honestly she enjoyed charms quite a bit. Today's spell seemed fun and had an interesting history so Lucy was eager to give it a go. She was a bit too scared at first to put her hand anywhere near the fire she created, even though the professor gave it a go and said it was safe. Eventually, she gave it a go, surprised at how she wasn't being burned at all. It was just like the professor said - a tickling sensation. Huh. The lesson finished up, and Lucy felt like she'd learnt something cool so she was in good spirits as she exited the classroom.

Veronica couldn’t believe the end of the semester was already upon them; in just a few short weeks, she’d be back home for the holidays. She wasn’t looking forward to being without Ten, but she was keen to see her family. She sat in the classroom and listened to Professor Haden explain the flame freezing charm, which would come in handy if she were ever burned at the stake. As with recent lessons, they were able to go and practice the flame freezing spell elsewhere, so Veronica packed up and made her way out of the classroom.

Marley quickly made her way to her charms classroom and took a seat in her usual spot. She then took out the things she needed for the lesson, placing them on her desk. She was excited to know what sort of charm they'd be learning today, and she was quite keen.

The Hufflepuff moved her attention towards her charms professor as he started the lesson. Today, they were learning about the flame freezing charm, which sounded exciting if Marley was being honest. She listened and watched closely as the professor went on to explain about the charm, as well as demonstrating it. Marley made sure to take notes of what the professor had been saying as she didn't want to miss out on anything important. She also nodded along throughout the lesson to show that she was understanding the content that was being told to them.

It was then their turn to try out the charm, which Marley had been excited about. It took a bit for Marley to master the charm, but she eventually managed to do it. Once she had gotten all good with the charm, she had become a little hesitant about putting her hand through the fire, even though the professor did say that it was safe to do so. After a few seconds of being hesitant, Marley pulled the band-aid and managed to put her hand through the fire. She let out a sigh of relief when she felt tingling instead.

It wasn't long until the lesson had come to an end, and they were dismissed. Marley quickly packed up her things as well as tidied up her area. She was glad that there wasn't any sort of reading that they had to do. Marley made sure to say a quick and appreciative thanks and goodbye to the professor before heading out of the classroom with her friends and the rest of her classmates.

Audrey was half tempted to point out that they actually hung witches as much as burning them, from what they'd learned in History of Magic, but she didn't want to come off as far up her own backside as Aurora (or Teddy). Audrey was clearly in her rebellious phase. As though she hadn't ever not been in a rebellious phase at home. Though she was too invested to rebel too much. Audrey remembered hearing about this spell in History, and had been thinking about how it could be used for smaller scale, not life-saving uses. Mostly if it impacted the temperature for potion brewing. She laughed in excitement as the professor set the desk on fire, wondering if setting desks on fire was something they could do at graduation. She cast the spell excitedly and thrust her hand into the fire, cackling with excitement as she did. "I totally get you, Wendelin the Weird," Audrey muttered, nodding thoughtfully. The temperature did rise and she had to pull her hand back quickly, but she thought she might just practice it for fun.
