It was an entirely new year, and once again, Samual found himself unimaginably excited for it. No matter how tiring, annoying, upsetting or stressful school became, there was always something here to make him feel better. Like the garden, that was always a good start. Today just happened to be one of the sunniest days in awhile and the Gryffindor was ready to soak it all up, because it was a relatively chilly day. Sammy smiled slightly, he was so grateful for the fact that is was a bright sunny day, the grass was all bright green and fresh. Samual was tempted to take off his shoes and run bare foot, but the thought of getting his feet dirty stopped him from doing that, and the fact that the grass could contain thorns from the flowers in the Hogwarts Garden. Not all the flowers had thorns, but some of them did, and he had no desire to find out which had thorns and which didn't. It'd be painful and would most likely ruin the day entirely. The Gryffidnor prefect was excited for classes and to see his friends again. He had missed his friends dearly and he wanted to see them all again and give them hugs and catch up on everything over the holidays.

Samual wasn't sure what all of his friends had all gotten up to, but he had had a nice birthday and mostly just hung out with his siblings, something he loved to do. He smiled to himself and made his way down one of the various paths through the Hogwarts Garden. In the end, they all seemed to lead to the same place, but it was always interesting to take a new path and see what happened. Once again, though, Sammy found himself in the centre, sitting down on one of the larger rocks there. It was still warm, and still a bright morning, the perfect time to just unwind and hang out. Maybe later he;d go hunt down on of his friends and ask them how they were doing, because he was genuinely missing them all, as he usually did after the holidays. Now it was a new year and he was ready to swap stories with all of his friends and just hang out, no worries. He crossed his legs quietly and exhaled. It was hopefully going to be a good year.

Kate came up from the kitchens. She had been cooking for the past half an hour. She had been making baked Alaska. Sudden inspiration had come over her to make something spontaneous. She had flicked a cookbook and whatever page it had landed on she would make that recipe. Baked Alaska had been it, she probably wouldn't have been able to make it as good as she had without the help of the elves. They had been a great help. Kate would have been stressed out beyond belief but without the elves she would have pulled her hair out. She had had some though and it had tasted delicious. She had tried to give the elves some but they had refused. She had told them to give it out for dessert. She only wanted a small bit, after all she hadn't made it because she was hungry, she had just been bored and wanted to do something spontaneous. She was full of meringue,ice-cream and biscuit. she'd never had Baked Alaska before, she'd had the ice-cream but she had never made it herself. It was a pleasant surprise to see how nice it was, she would definitely make it herself again.

Kate walked out to the gardens. She was coming there a lot more lately. It was a good place to think and she had quite a few things to think about. She was delighted that Stefan was back in school, she had missed him so much and for ages they had only communicated through letters but now she saw him in classes and passing in the hallway and she could be with him. Not have to wait six months before she could see him. She was getting used to the the Head Girl business. She really didn't see why she had been picked but she would try to do her best, that's all she could do. She hoped she did her house proud. She walked into the gardens, it was quite cold outside and Kate had not dressed appropriately but she had run all the ways down to the Garden so she was suitably warm and out of breath now but it had been enjoyable. She was breathing heavily but she was smiling and as she had been running down all thoughts of Sara and her family in general had disappeared. She really enjoyed running, especially sprinting. As she around the Gardens, she spotted a familiar head of curly hair. Kate smiled, he hadn't seen her. She bit her lip and quietly walked up behind him. She remembered doing something like this to him before, she couldn't remember when. It was still a bit of fun. "BOO"She shouted as she grabbed his shoulders.

Samual was in his own little world. The day was far too good to not get lost in, he didn't even mind the fact that he wasn't with someone, a true rarity. Samual was a sociable person, so he always needed people with him in order to function, but right now he was fine with feeling like the only person in the world. It was a nice feeling sometimes, to be alone. But he also reminded himself of the fact that he wanted to hang out with his friends soon. Hopefully this year he would be able to hang out with his friends, and get good grades. They had slipped, quite a bit and he was upset by that, but this year he was determined to clean up his act. He was going to have tonnes of fun, and amazingly amazing grades, so he could be whatever he wanted to be and have tonnes of opportunities that some of his siblings will unfortunately never get. But that was mostly because they ruin their own education, in fact, a lot of them had done that, so he wasn't going to allow himself to fall through the cracks. He was ready to get somewhat serious about life.

Sammy was deep in thought, he didn't even realise that one of his very close friends was in the garden. usually he would have realised that she was there, because she wasn't the greatest sneaker in the universe, and the fact that at home he had spent his time having to keep an ear out for Lucy, Hamish and Bethany, who all loved to sneak up on him and terrorise him and pull his curls. But today he was completely and totally oblivious. Someone could have crashed behind him on a broom and he probably wouldn't have noticed. When Kate shouted 'BOO' and grabbed his shoulders, Sammy jumped and cried out in shock. "Ahhhhhhh!" He put his hand over his heart and turned around. She'd done this before, sneaky Kate, he should learn to expect it. His face that was full of shock, turned into happiness. "Kate!" He cheered, scaling the rock quickly and pulling the slightly older girl into a big hug. He was a cuddly person. "How are you?" He finally released the Hufflepuff and brushed his hair out of his eyes. He had heard that Kate was Head Girl, but he wanted to hear it from her, just in case for some reason it was just a silly rumour. "How has everything been?" He was strill wearing a huge grin, but if her getting Head Girl was true, it was sure to triple in size.

Kate did love the Hogwarts Gardens, such a beautiful place. Perfect for thinking. She had been spending some time along lately. She just had things she had to process and she preferred doing that alone with no one else around to distract her. She loved her friends and when she was feeling down, hanging out with her friends always made her feel so much better. They distracted her from her worries or gave her advice and just made her feel better. What were friends for only to make their friends feel better and have the crack with. As much as she loved her time with friends she did love her moments of peace where she could just sit down, relax and have me time. She hadn't had a lot of it in recent months and the gardens was one of her favorite places to sit down and think, a window sill and the North Tower were also favorite places of hers to think. She liked the Rosebush too but she hadn't gone there in some time. She preferred the flowers in the gardens, they reminded her of home. The North tower had an amazing view which she loved to look out at.

Kate laughed, and laughed. It was hilarious. His reaction was just what she was looking for. She would think after last time he would be on her guard, she certainly would. She had now managed to catch him out twice. What was so sweet was that his face turned from shock to happiness when he saw her. He was such a good friend and she was glad that he had decided to come over to her that day by the lakefront. He was one of her closest friends and when she had been at her most vunerable and worst, he had been there for her. She hugged him back tightly, still laughing. "Very good after that"She said, a huge grin on her face, but her giggles had calmed down and she could now look at him with a straight face "How have you been?"She asked putting her hands on her hips. "Ah been okay," She said, removing her hands from her hips and sitting down, she was tired from all the running. She couldn't wait to tell him her next piece of news "And I also became Head Girl" She said smiling wondering what his reaction would be.

Samual attempted to glare, but it didn't really work out because he was too happy to pull it off. "Kate, I could have had a heart attack." He said, taking a deep breath of air so his face would return to normal colour and his chest would stop hurting. Laughing was fun, but it wasn't fun when it started to hurt, like it always managed to when Kate was mean like this. "I'm glad frightening me makes you feel good, it warms my heart." The Gryffidnor didn't ave a problem with being frightened, once the shock wore off, he could see the humour behind it. Being scared by a friend was always funny, and if it wasn't, maybe it was best to get a new friend, if you can't enjoy something like that with them. Samual managed to calm himself down, long enough to think about how his holidays were. As usual, they were average, nothing too bad happening and filled with some fun. He had a friend over the last holidays, so it was a bit of a let down compared to them. "Last holidays were better, but these holidays were still good. So I'm absolutely fine." If the school year was going to be like this the whole time, he was sure he would be more than fine. even with Nadia gone, he was going to have loads of fun with his friends.

He was relieved to hear the Kate was okay. He didn't like to admit it, but he worried about Kate still, even though he tried to tell himself that she was fine now, he still had a little nagging feeling in his heart that told him to make sure she didn't get as upset as she had before. It was horrible to see her like that. "That's great to hear!" The amount of excitement that was running through Samual's veins at this moment was probably housing enough energy to power a large city for a decade. He was so excited, this was amazing. This year was destined to be epic, nothing could ruin it. Most of his closest friends were prefects, which means that they were all responsible people. Responsible people were fun, especially when they were his friends and loved to have a good time. Kate being Head Girl was just epic, she must be so proud, in fact, her parents must be so proud of her, of all their daughters, they were all prefects and that was something he'd be proud of. Hopefully their brother didn't feel left out. "I heard!" He was probably being louder than he meant, but this was fantabulous news. "I'm so proud!" He gave her another quick hug. "Are you proud? You should be proud!"
