A Spring breeze sent ripples scudding across the lake as Angel surveyed the area, keen to get today's event started. Besides the slight chill still lingering in the air, it was a great day for it, sunny with large clouds drifting high across blue sky. Pennants in the four house colors flapped brightly in the wind where they were set up along the lake dock and shore and Angel could already smell something warm and delicious wafting from where they had set up today's bqq and hāngī for the students.
The pumpkin patch was a riot of bright orange, greens, brown, and pale whites as the last few gourds, kumara, and other seasonal favourites were engorged into a bigger size. Some were just big enough to sit on like a foot stool, others were big enough to fit several students inside. A particularly long kumara looked like it could be hollowed out into a canoe.
"Students and staff, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Hogwarts New Zealand's Great Pumpkin Boat Regatta, hosted by yours truly and my fellow head of house, Professor Cade," Angel announced to the gathered students, his wand to his throat to amplify his voice. "To celebrate 50 years of our school, we've decided to put on a special event for you all today. Feel free to enjoy the food, weather, and good company. Pumpkins and other gourds and root vegetables are available for you to carve, eat, and more importantly, fashion into water craft. We have oars and sails aplenty here for you, as well as some carving tools for anyone who doesn't wish to use their wand, so once you've chosen your vessel, we look forward to seeing you out on the lake. Swimmers, please stay out of the designated boating areas and vice versa, and everyone please keep an eye out for any large.. marine life in the lake. If you get into trouble in the water, send up some sparks or raise an arm and we'll come fish you out.
"While the intent for today is to have fun and celebrate our school's anniversary, this is also a house event, so any students participating will be awarded 5 points to their houses. That's right, 5 points just for showing up. So get out there, have some fun, and put your best foot forward to celebrate your school and your house today!"
With a flick of his wand, Angel shot a shower of gold, emerald, sapphire, and ruby sparks into the air, officially announcing the event open, before he set out towards the dock to help with the boats and hopefully keep any students from getting too soggy before they wanted to.

Out of Character: - Welcome to the Pumpkin Boat Regatta! This is a special event to celebrate 50 years of HNZ and will be open for posting for 10 days. Posting in any event thread or starting your own thread within the forum will net your character 5 house points for participation, awarded once the event has closed. Make a pumpkin boat, jack-o-lantern, go swimming, or simply enjoy the event and have fun.
