Y41 Dueling Match #15

Lena was starting to feel tired but figured she should really start paying attention as the duels heated up. Tea in hand, she looked at the competitors and gave them a smile. "You know the rules by now. Please play fair, bow, and begin!"

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use [URL='https://hogwarts.nz/docs/#Spells%27]the spell list [/URL]for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the [URL='https://hogwarts.nz/threads/duelling-rules.13843/%27]dueling rules[/URL] and [URL='https://hogwarts.nz/threads/duelling-points.13844/%27]points system[/URL]. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Aine had no idea what she was doing. Well, logically she knew what she was doing - she was participating in the duelling tournament. For the title. For some reason. But as to how she'd got there, even why she'd signed up seemed like a mystery at this stage. She'd thought that beating Cameron would be cathartic, or that she'd get some kind of emotional victory out of it, but that really didn't seem to be the case. She just kind of felt awful about the mean side of her seizing control. And pretty much every time she'd argued with him she'd felt like she was completely right jinxing him made her feel like she had absolutely done the wrong thing. Even in school sanctioned jinxing.

Still, she owed it to...pretty much everyone here to at least try to duel. Even though Ngawaiata was pretty intimidating and Aine was sure she'd annoyed her somehow. She didn't think she could win, but she'd just have to try. Try was the operative word. She gave a hurried, polite bow, and cast the first spell that came into her head. "Expelliarmus!"

Though it had been a long fight, Ngawaiata was pleased to have made it through her first duel victorious. She had been looking forward to getting to duel her classmates since she had started at school, and it was a good feeling to know she did have what it took. She took the stage for her second duel, bowing politely to Aine before taking up a stance. She decided to start on the defense this time to try a different style, bringing up a shield quickly before she fired back. "Stupefy!" She cried, hoping to end this match the same way her last one had.

Aine wasn't surprised her spell didn't work. Nothing was working currently. The reality of the situation was starting to sink in and the earlier bravado and determination was ebbing away almost completely. Everything was going numb, but at the same time she felt painfully aware of herself, where she was, and all the eyes currently on her. At the very least, she was able to block the returned spell with a quick, almost shrieked cast. But when she went to cast a spell in return, her lips moved but no words came out. She took a deep breath, righting herself as quickly as she could, throwing back a very, very weak trip jinx that she didn't think would actually hit.

As she pulled up a shield to block it, Ngawaiata could feel how weak the spell she was blocking was. She shifted her stance, confident in her abilities as she fired back a quick slug-vomiting curse.

Aine's head was spinning. The full weight was starting to crush down on her now. She couldn't duel, why had she signed up for this? She felt almost feverish, knowing she had the eyes of so many people on her. She'd never been terrible at being in front of a crowd, but she didn't exactly enjoy it. Especially when she didn't know what she was doing. A speech she could kind of bluff her way through. Not this.

She was too slow to react, getting hit by the spell. She hadn't even registered what the spell was, only that she was still standing. For the moment. But there was a disgusting feeling in her mouth and as she opened it, all that came out was a slug. And then another as she cried out, dropping her wand in panic and promptly falling to the ground, dizziness and disgust overtaking her. Her eyes blinked open after a moment, but she knew she'd already lost.

Lena was surprised by how quickly this duel ended and went up to the Hufflepuff. "Ngawaiata Martin is the winner! Ms. Thompson, please visit the hospital wing," she said, trying not to slip in any of the slugs.
