Finding the free time to prepare the Great Hall for its yearly event during the busy school period was always a difficult task, but after a few short hours, Katherine, the house elves and a handful of staff members had finished their festive decorating. As usual, the house tables were vanished, replaced with multiple smaller, rounder tables lining the walls for students to sit and talk, while also allowing for a larger space where they could dance and enjoy the music prepared for the night. In three corners were large tables full of food and drink, with many Christmas themed treats and chocolate yuletide logs available. A lone tree stood in the fourth corner, dressed in tinsel and fairies who were more than happy, or at least vain, to be used as decoration. Beneath the branches of the tree were stacks upon stacks of small, neatly wrapped presents, containing chocolates and candies for anyone who opened them.

The hall itself was adorned with cloths and fabrics of pale blues and whites, covering the tables and hanging from the ceiling in long sweeping arches. Baubles of gold and silver dotted the air, held aloft by invisible threads. The hall's ceiling, usually enchanted to seem as if it were opening up to the skies, was now crowded with rolling white clouds, dropping flecks of slow moving snow down onto the crowd below, disappearing just above the heads of everyone gathered. It only further added to the Winter Wonderland vibe. Despite it being Summer, most of the student body seemed to enjoy the addition of snow, not every student having the chance to even see it until now.

Dressed in a simple gown of white, Katherine took up her position behind the podium to address the seated students. "Welcome, all of you, to another Yule Ball. I'll keep this brief, so you can all get to enjoying the festivities. Feel free to help yourselves to food and drink, but keep it off the dance floor. There are gifts under the Yule tree to take as the night ends, which are limited to one per person. The ball ends the moment clock strikes midnight, and no later. However, you are free to leave any time before then. With that said, you're now welcome to dance and enjoy yourselves."
