It was a couple of hours after curfew and Ladon not only was out of bed but also out of his common room. Few minutes after he had left the Ravenclaw tower, he was climbing down the Grand Staircase in search of, well, he had no idea. It was hard for him to sleep in a room with other four people. A light sleeper he was, the slightest nasal sound from his roommates could wake him instantly. Let alone when they developed in snores. Ladon decided that just staying in bed staring at the ceiling was going to make hours pass excruciatingly. Just with his wand and dressed casually in a hoodie, a pair of jeans and sneakers, he marched for some exploration. He could tell that the castle contained a lot of secrets, waiting the curious and the brave to discover them.

He decided to start with the seventh floor, the first stop of his way down the Grand Staircase. The corridor sprawled in darkness. A moonless night offered no natural light but as soon as he stepped into the shadows, two flames magically erupted on the closest pair of torches. As he proceeded, more torches illuminated, their light reflecting on the polished armors, standing along the walls. Holding his wand, the boy didn't have to cast the wand-lighting charm while the torches continued lighting up with every step. Ladon didn't like that. He would have preferred to walk in the dark and rely on his wand's light which he could extinguish whenever he desired.

The boy stopped on his tracks to check if the torches' flames were going to die out. He didn't have to wait more than a few moments and the torches magically snuffed out. Shrouded in darkness, he remained still to listen carefully for any sound. It was in his nature to be wary and he was well-aware that the corridors were patrolled by staff and perfects. He remembered that Gryffindor common room was located somewhere on that corridor and perhaps the torches were bewitched this way to provide light to students. He couldn't remain still all night but before he could take a step forwards, flames flickered in the distance at the other end of the corridor. His blood ran cold. Someone was coming his way as another pair of flames erupted, closer to the previous ones. He could do nothing now, even if he run away he would cause more torches to illuminate. Ladon remained there determined to face whatever detention was coming his way. But as the a few more torches lit up closer to him, he was able to discern the frame of a person of his stature.
