Apparently it was winter. Not that it was anything like winter at home. The world wasn’t perminantly covered by a blanket of snow sleeping in the dark. The sun was shining. Well not shining if neimh had the word overcast in her volcabularry she would have used that but as it was she didn’t. She had just returned to school after spending time at home she had spent less time there than she had at school since her families move just over a year ago. It had been fun. Painting her bedroom and unpacking her things making it feel like home but now she was back in the castle. Or just outside her feet bare against the grass. Under her chin was her viola it’s sweet music singing through the cool air as she played to the plants sleeping under the soil lost in her own world of harmony melody, a world shared by herself and her ma.

Pixie was coming back outside, the sun was out and she wasn't going to spend time indoors with all the new students running around. She found a spot in the gardens and was able to just sit down and read away. After a while she began hearing a noise and after pausing her reading she realised someone was playing an instrument. Pixie stood up and began following the noise until she spotted a young girl playing a violin or viola...she wasn't sure. Pixie sat down and began reading again, enjoying the music that was being played as she read. The younger girl was good.

Niamh was playing in her head the music felt like coming spring and growing plants. It felt alive as she spun it. She really felt like she was in her own world. She tried to remember music her mum played but the melody escaped her so she just continued on. She looked up as she saw someone approaching. A girl with a book. She paused and walked over to her. hello. Let me k ow if the music is distracting and I can move? she said she didn’t want to disrupt the girl reading and she seemed to be enjoying the music but it could be distracting. Apparently. Seeing as she had already interrupted the girl she thought again what kind of book are you reading? She asked if she knew what kind of book it was she could fit the theme. A scary story would work better with different music than a love story.

Pixie was happily reading along to the music when it stopped and the girl approached her. She shook her head as if to say no, that it wasn't distracting. She thought she might say it but decided against opening her mouth and saying anything verbally, especially as the girl asked what she was reading, and Pixie held up the book. "Early Divination Practices," it was a history book about divination with lots of really interesting maybe slightly old ways of doing things that Pixie found very interesting. It wasn't perhaps the go to book for most people but Pixie was not really most people.

Niamh wondered if maybe the girl didn't speak as she quietly lifted the book for her to read, early divination practices. she it was not the kind of book she was familiar with or how to fit it into music. history didn't have a sound to her and divination was a class that she didn't know about. she thought back. what did she know about divination. the bow vlided along the strings as she walked away thinking about Völur that they had learned about in history class, thinking about dark dark nights and her mums friend who was seer. it wasn't perfect but is was a start. the end sound seemed to be doubled in tone a call and an echo. almost haunted and mysterious. but slowly picking up the pace a little tying it into the feel of here and now before lolling back into slow sounds. it wasn't perfect. even she felt like it wasn't but she was trying.

Pixie was glad that the girl didn't say anuthing, just seemed to take in what Pixie had shown her with the book and started playing. Pixie was pretty happy, she was able to just relax and get back to reading her book, going through all of the pages slowly and making sure that she didn't misread any of it, and was able to just enjoy the music that the girl was playing. Pixie had never picked up an instrument and she had to imagine it was very difficult, this girl was super talented. Pixie got so into her book she barely even noticed when the music stopped playing.

sky kept playing letting the sound and colour in her head flow out through her fingers like a ball of thread flowing out of her and weaving together into a tapestry. but like the roll of twine the song came to an end. she looked across at the girl and was surprised to see that she was still reading but she stopped and looked up at her. "unnskyld, je I got to the end of the song. is there anything else you want me to play?" she said remembering after the 'sorry, I' that she wasn't still at home where she and her parents used Norwegian more than English, she was at school.

Pixie was jusst lost in her reading, working her way through the book slowly until the song drew to an end and the girl playing started speaking. She looked up at her and gave a little shrug, to indicate that she wouldn't mind, and really she wouldn't mind either way. The girl could keep playing and Pixie knew she'd enjoy it or she could stop and Pixie knew she'd just go back to reading in silence, she'd never been one to mind the silence. Hopefully this girl would understand her gesture and not get annoyed about her lack of words.

The girl didn't seem to be complaining about her playing. she just seemed absorbed in her book. Sky went back to where she had left her case. and rifled through it until she found her book of sheet music. she loved playing but she liked improvising translating what she saw into sound. but there were some songs she was trying to learn. and that meant sheet music. she unfolded it and started to play along. it was a muggle song that her dad had shown her from a movie when he had been young. but it was a beautiful song and so heartfelt it had moved her and she wanted to capture the emotions in the music. it wasn't as smooth playing as her own music had been as she was processing and playing not just playing. but she hoped it didn't sound too bad.
