It wasn't often that Avalyn got to go on a free vacation, sunbath during January and even rarer still when she got to travel from America to Australia in a second flat. It felt like it was all a dream but if it wasn't she had brought her law textbooks with her so she wouldn't fall behind on her reading. The lectures were something she could miss because she knew that she had friends that would lend her their notes and explain it to her when she got back so all she was worried about was being friendly with Izaak and Ailanne. As she woke up cuddled into Tristan's arms she smiled and kissed his cheek before she changed out of her pajamas and into her bikini and some shorts before grabbing her textbook, one of her many notebooks a highlighter and a pen before stuffing it into her multicoloured bag.

If this was a dream there was no reason why she couldn't try to get a tan so she tiptoed out the door, trying not to disturb anyone as she left the house and found her way to the beach, genuinely surprised to see people surfing this early. Ava shrugged it off as she laid down on the hot sand because nothing here made sense so she just took out her book and cracked it open to where she had left off, reading and high lighting furiously. If Ava was to keep up with the rest of the class she had to work harder than the rest because it seemed that if you didn't mind giving the Professor the eye or were a male you could do no wrong and Ava was not that girl but right now she didn't have the patience to make claims when everyone seemed to just accept what the professor was after.

Avalyn grabbed her cell phone as she heard her alarm, the unnecessary one, go off. As she shut off the alarm she saw that her screen had a picture of her and Tristan making silly faces and smiled at the memory of that day before she put it down beside her and tried to refocus herself.

Ugh it sucks.

Izaak Finch could very safely say that he had never been more content with his life than he was right in this moment. The star-studded surfer had the world well and truly at his feet; he boasted a high profile in his industry, he was engaged to be married in a few weeks time and just to top that all off, was surrounded by the most incredible family. Finches seemed to be flocking to the tight-knit family left, right and centre. Over a decade ago it had just been he, Leah and Jay, and the trio had been adamant it would stay that way. But then their mother had fallen back into their good graces, his sister had married and borne a baby girl, Izaak himself had introduced his own loves into the family – first Alexis, and now Aly, and they had discovered the long lost brother they’d never even knew they’d had. But Tristan had taken it all in his confident stride, he’d settled into the family as if he’d never left it, even Izaak often forgot that it had only been a year or so he’d known his brother for.

So when he and Aly had invited Tristan and his “best friend” to stay with them in Bondi, it had seemed like the most natural thing in the world to do. But with or without their company, Izaak still had a championship title to uphold and so had all but tiptoed out of the house with his surfboard under his arm before the crack of dawn earlier that morning. His fiancée was used to the freakishly early hours he trained in but he wanted to avoid disturbing Tristan and Ava at all costs; they were here to vacation after all and that most definitely entitled them to sleeping in for as long as they pleased. So it came as a surprise to Izaak when he emerged from the surf a few hours later only to find Ava lounged out on a towel, immersed in a text book. His azure blue eyes scanned the golden sand and then the surf behind him for his brother, wondering if that was the reason the blonde was up so early. Well, early for normal people. But there was no sign of Tristan, so with a gentle smile upon his features he approached her.

“Hey Ava,” he greeted the girl as he placed his board down beside her towel and sat down upon the fibreglass. “You’re up early. Did Tristan wake you with his snoring or something?” He quipped playfully, glancing at the girl with sly blue eyes. Of course, Izaak didn’t actually know if his brother snored or not, he hadn’t grown up with him to find that out. But what he did know was that the pair were a little closer than most best friends; hell, he and Casey had never snuggled in bed. And in addition to that, he knew that Tristan was besotted with the blonde, Izaak had eventually pried that information out of him. He had been forced to swear that he wouldn’t tell Ava but by the looks of things, he wouldn’t have been surprised if she felt the very same way. All they needed was a little shove in the right direction.

With the sun on her face and the scent of the ocean Ava wished that she could live in Australia. California was great but there was something different between the two places and their beaches that made her prefer Bondi but this would not happen. When you were a law major about to go to law school you could not change countries of your education like you could if you had a different major. It would have been great to go abroad but unless Izaak could let her go into the past and make sure that she and Tristan would be just as close with any changes she would be stuck with her apartment. It's not like it was an awful thing but waking up in Tristan's arms and walking outside to a beach just seemed wonderful. Ava knew not to dote on it too much, however. She would enjoy the time she was here instead of doting on what would never be.

Ava flipped the page of her book and just as she started to read the first sentence she heard Izaak address her. She looked up at him and smiled. As he settled down beside her she said in a perky voice that most people did not use this early in the day, "Good morning." She put her pen in the book as a substitution for a book mark before she closed it and put it to the side. As Izaak suggested that Tristan had woken her up because of snoring she smiled in amusement. Her friend did not snore and even if he had it probably wouldn't have made much of a difference, she was a very heavy sleeper. "Nope. I'm always up this early," she said with a nod of her head and a grin. "How are the waves?" she asked looking from Izaak to his board and wondering briefly what had brought him to choose surfing as his career when it wasn't something most people did but she had been told he was a champion so what did it really matter? "Or can you change them with your stick?" she asked curiously, hoping that Izaak wasn't bothered by her questions but it seemed like something out of this world and she couldn't help but want to know more about everything. Even if Izaak had assured them that he and Aly lived as closely to how normal human beings did she thought that maybe it was something he could do because if she was a witch she would certainly use magic all the time. It seemed to make things so much easier. As Ava waited for an answer to her questions she wondered if there was anyone famous that was a witch or a wizard and if maybe something was discovered in science or any other field because of these secretive people. With this in mind she couldn't help but think of Salem and wonder if there were any bag witches and wizards or if it was just fear that led people to burn others because even if she was curious she was also a little scared of it.

Avalyn Logan was an accepting person but she knew that if she had found this out in a different context she would likely have told the authorities to imprison them or something because even with Izaak and Aly being good people it was frightening for her to think that there were people that could control everything they did without them knowing it, like they were some sort of subspecies. With this in mind, Ava was thankful that Tristan was there to help her through all the oddities that the Finch family seemed to have.
