Being in his last year of school and a prefect had advantages and disadvantages. To start off, school work was a thing, and the fact that he needed to get that done (with constant effort) sometimes drove him a little mad. He needed to do something else, as nowadays he was beginning to feel as though if he wouldn't get out now, there was no way later in the semester he would have the chance to. As for prefect, Dan didn't necessarily get why his role entailed patrolling the school when he knew perfectly well that younger students out of bed after curfew were bound to be out and about anyway, even after an encounter with a professor or an older student. The Slytherin knew, because he used to do that with his sister. He did understand the reason for it - that didn't need any further explanation. Then again, he had to admit it was fun to intimidate much younger people or pretend to take a point off them - when he was bored, for example. Not that it happened often, but when it did, it was hilarious. Besides, the seventh year barely took points from people, like ever.
He glanced around him from where he stood. Now would be a good time to do this, considering there weren't many people around. If people knew who he was it wouldn't be smart, since he was meant to set a good example. Lying down on his stomach so as to prevent any possible accidents, he crawled forwards and when he was close enough, tried to peek over the edge of the cliff to see what was at the bottom. To any normal human being this would've been a strange, call-for-help scene, but Daniel wasn't stupid enough to actually lean over. He knew exactly where that would lead him, it would quite literally be the end of him. The excitement at what could be down there, if it was simply water or grass or if it was something entirely magnificent, made him want to share it with his best friend. If Charlotte found him here, hopefully she would soon, the excitement would double up. He had meant to give her an update on his whereabouts, when she had asked earlier, and it had escaped his thoughts, replaced by the many others that filled up his mind with what could be down there.
