Being in his last year of school and a prefect had advantages and disadvantages. To start off, school work was a thing, and the fact that he needed to get that done (with constant effort) sometimes drove him a little mad. He needed to do something else, as nowadays he was beginning to feel as though if he wouldn't get out now, there was no way later in the semester he would have the chance to. As for prefect, Dan didn't necessarily get why his role entailed patrolling the school when he knew perfectly well that younger students out of bed after curfew were bound to be out and about anyway, even after an encounter with a professor or an older student. The Slytherin knew, because he used to do that with his sister. He did understand the reason for it - that didn't need any further explanation. Then again, he had to admit it was fun to intimidate much younger people or pretend to take a point off them - when he was bored, for example. Not that it happened often, but when it did, it was hilarious. Besides, the seventh year barely took points from people, like ever.

He glanced around him from where he stood. Now would be a good time to do this, considering there weren't many people around. If people knew who he was it wouldn't be smart, since he was meant to set a good example. Lying down on his stomach so as to prevent any possible accidents, he crawled forwards and when he was close enough, tried to peek over the edge of the cliff to see what was at the bottom. To any normal human being this would've been a strange, call-for-help scene, but Daniel wasn't stupid enough to actually lean over. He knew exactly where that would lead him, it would quite literally be the end of him. The excitement at what could be down there, if it was simply water or grass or if it was something entirely magnificent, made him want to share it with his best friend. If Charlotte found him here, hopefully she would soon, the excitement would double up. He had meant to give her an update on his whereabouts, when she had asked earlier, and it had escaped his thoughts, replaced by the many others that filled up his mind with what could be down there.

Charlotte couldn't believe she had already reached her final year at Hogwarts. It felt like yesterday that the Head Girl finally became comfortable in her green robes and now she was almost out of the school, saying goodbye to them forever. Before she could leave though, the teen knew she had many other things to worry about including the exams at the end of the year and quidditch. She was slightly disappointed that her team lost their first game of the year but she also knew that they had a good opportunity to redeem themselves and she knew they could do it.

After attempting to get started on some of her homework, Charlotte decided she would go out to look for Daniel. She enjoyed spending time with her boyfriend and often wondered what he was up to. The Slytherin made her way out onto the grounds in search for him and smiled as she walked through the outdoors, enjoying the fresh air. Soon Charlotte had come across the cliffs. At first look she thought no one was there and almost turned around to go back until she saw someone lying on their stomach, almost over the edge. She knew instantly who it was and assumed the worst as she rushed over to him, her heart beating against her chest. "Dan!" she exclaimed. "What are you doing? You could kill yourself! Please get up." She wasn't exactly sure what he was up to but she couldn't help but worry about him.

Dan was trying to see what was at the bottom because he was so intrigued by it and he hadn't realised someone had called to him. He squinted, but saw nothing, much to his annoyance. He got on his knees once again and sighed, running a hand through his hair. He turned as a very concerned someone called his name, and he turned in time to see just the person he was waiting for. Instantly, his face split into a grin and he took her hand before pulling her down next to him. "Hey, I'm okay," he reassured her, giving her hand a squeeze before he nodded towards the cliff. "I was trying to see what's at the end...do you think it's anything interesting?" he asked her with eyebrows furrowed, too curious to let it go. He glanced at Charlotte and then back at the edge of the cliff and the unknown, itching to get a good look down without falling.

Charlotte watched as Dan took her hand and let him pull her down with him. She was glad that he was okay and smiled at his enthusiasm of what could be down the bottom of the cliff. She knew that there was nothing much down there but enjoyed his childish demeanour, not wanting to spoil it for him. "I bet there's a lion... a whole village of them! With swords and cool ninja skills." she told him with a smirk, watching as he glanced back down. She couldn't help but be scared he might fall over the edge and held on tightly to his hand, not wanting to let go. "It's kind of weird though how this school just lets us come here when there's a massive cliff here that anyone could jump down at any time." She rolled her eyes at this, not sure how safe the school really was. Ever since Avie had died at the school she couldn't help but be weary of it. If it weren't for the fact she had made good friends there she would've asked her parents to move.

Dan chuckled as Charlotte played along, but he was kind of being serious about it. Besides water, maybe, what else could be there? One could never be too sure. "I'm being serious," he said, shaking his head as he watched his girlfriend pretend to be excited - or maybe she was enthusiastic and Daniel simply thought otherwise. "Imagine how cool that would be, though," he admitted as an afterthought. Feeling the tight grip Charlotte had as they held hands he sent her a reassuring squeeze and pulled her ever so closer to him, before placing an arm around her. The seventh year couldn't help but laugh at the girl's next words. "I couldn't agree more," he agreed easily. "It kind of reminds me of the forbidden forest thing, when they tell all first years. Actually, it's old news to us, new to first years. What's the point of letting students come to the cliffs when it's just as dangerous as the forest?" Daniel shook his head, not really getting it. "Hey, we could always tell the head people about it if it becomes a problem."

Charlotte frowned slightly at Dan's enthusiasm. She wanted to know the reason why the cliff was there too, but the whole idea of it being dangerous and then not finding anything at the bottom made her scared, mainly because she didn't know what she'd do if Dan fell and she wouldn't be able to help him. She smiled at him as he gripped onto his hand a bit tighter, giving her a reassuring squeeze before nodding at his words. "We should start a revolution." Charlotte suggested with a chuckle, referring to the revolution not too long ago with the idea of breaking the statue of secrecy. Charlotte never really felt it was her place to interfere with it, especially with her role as Head Girl, but she admittedly thought it was a bit silly for a bunch of teenagers to think they could change the world. She appreciated the positivity, but she knew it would only create mayhem in the long run. "I think the forbidden forest thing is stupid too, but I don't want to be the one to tell the head people. It's dangerous, but adding more rules would just be unnecessary." Charlotte was never really one to care for the rules, and she figured that people would hopefully be sensible enough not to do anything dumb. After all, no one had jumped down the cliffs yet.

Dan nodded absentmindedly at his girlfriend's words, though as much as he was being serious he didn't think they were actually going to start a revolution. He smiled however at her response, before glancing at her with a soft smile on his lips. "Like that revolution from earlier? I doubt it'll work out one hundred per cent," he chuckled, and winked to let Charlotte know he wasn't being totally serious about this whole thing. It would be another conversation starter, probably. So there was that. When she mentioned not wanting to tell the head people, Daniel nodded slowly, he was beginning to understand her reasons for it. They were in their final year anyway, and he doubted that they needed more rules as it was. Students just needed to know the limits. "You've got a point," he admitted. Daniel got up, to a sitting position, and further away from the cliff, tugging at Charlotte's hand because he didn't want anything to happen to her. "Uh, this is probably really late in the conversation, but, how are you?" he asked the girl genuinely. In his childish demeanour about what could be at the bottom of the cliff, he'd forgotten to ask the most important question.
