The student lounge was not one of Jade's favorite spots. Far from it, because there was always way too many people. The only reason she was in here was because she had heard a vague rumor that someone had found a way to listen to music without technology, which she didn't know how to do just yet. So far it had turned out to be a complete falsehood, so she contented herself with sitting on a chair by herself, humming her favorite song, Sing by My Chemical Romance. She tuned out the rest of the world and imagined these one playing in the background as she fought for what was right, what that was she hadn't figured out quite yet. She didn't notice that the room slowly trickled out of people until there was only a few other people there with her, making her very obvious indeed in her humming.

Hariah found herself once again in the student lounge, the previous time she had been in there she had met a fellow first year. But this time she went into the student lounge out of choice, last time she went in there by accident looking for the library.

She expected the room to be busy, however, today it was rather empty. There was only a few people in there. She didn't know anyone unfortunately. Hariah turned and she was about to walk out of the room when she heard someone humming. She looked round and saw a girl, who looked about her own age, sitting in the corner by herself. Intrigued, Hariah walked over to the girl and smiled at her. "What song is that?" She asked and sat down next to the girl.

She liked meeting people unexpectedly, she met interesting people this way.

Jade opened her eyes and jerked her head towards to voice, abruptly stopping her adventure. She stared at the girl with her mouth slightly open before managing to mumble, "Um..Sing..My Chemical Romance..." She did not usually talk to people, and when caught unaware she was horrible with people. Looking at the girl, she appeared to be around her age and she decided she might as well know the girl's name. "Uhh..I'm Jade, who are you?"

Hariah blinked at the girl, she had never heard of that song before. "Oh... nice." she said, wondering if the girl would notice that Hariah did not know what she was on about. "Nice to meet you" Hariah said to the girl known as Jade. "I'm Hariah. I think I've seen you around before...What house are you in?" she asked Jade.

The girl seemed to be confused for a moment when she said the name of the song. Jade figured that the girl had no idea what the song was and was just trying to be nice. She gave a nervous smile and said, "Nice to meet you too Hariah. I'm in Gryffindor." She had no idea what else to say, so she just shut her mouth and waited for the girl to respond.

Hariah smiled "No way!" she exclaimed. "Me too! How have I not seen you?" Hariah probably had seen Jade before, Gryffindor tower was always very busy with lots of students in the common room. It was hard to find and take note of the people in your house. "So how come your in here?" Hariah asked wanting to get to know Jade better, she cold potentially be a good girl friend. She only had boy friends at the moment.

Jade cringed back from the girls shouts. Inside voices she thought. People being loud and excited around Jade was not something she was used to, and typically reacted negatively to it. Still, she had to be nice. When she found out Hariah was in Gryffindor, she put on a fake smile and said, "I don't know, that's pretty cool though." She thought vaguely of the music that she wanted to hear so badly before saying, "No reason. Just bored." She didn't want to appear dumb for coming in the lounge over a rumor, but she missed her music greatly. "You?" She asked more out of politeness than anything.

Hariah saw the girl recoil at her exclamations. She wasn't used to people who wasn't as loud as her, who were less confident. It was something Hariah would have to work on, when to be loud and when not to be. It would take a while.

"I'll have to look out for you now then" she said smiling at Jade. "Just wanted to get out of the common room you know, go exploring. I thought there might be someone I know in here" she explained.

Jade listened as Hariah explained why she was in the lounge. The first year didn't know very many people, so she was surprised that the fellow Gryffindor could walk into the student lounge and expect to find someone they know there. Maybe it's their friend's favorite hangout, she thought, being reasonable. "Cool. So...um...what's your favorite part of Hogwarts so far?" She asked, not being able to think of anything else to say.

Hariah shrugged and thought for a while, what was her favourite part? the lessons? the variety of students? the location? "I guess.. I like how different it is here compared to back home. It's very busy here all the time, your never alone" she explained to Jade. "What about yours?" she asked.

Even though it was busy, it was still possible to feel lonely. It was so strange to be without her dad all the time. Back at home, he was always there.

Jade hadn't really thought about it. She knew what she liked the most about it, the concrete nature of it, but she would never admit that to someone she barely knew. "The people," she replied after a few minutes. It was true she liked the few people she had met, but she felt bad for lying anyway. The Gryffindor bowed her head and started to sketch a new picture.

"So, um, what are you good at? What do you like to do?" She asked suddenly. Maybe Hariah had talent for drawing to.

Hariah smiled at Jade, the people definitely were a plus. Nearly everyone was friendly here, you had the occasional student who was a bit anti social. She watched Jade start to sketch and wished she could draw too. Her family wasn't very artistic they were far more academic and Hariah seemed to inherit those genes.

"Well I can see your very gifted at drawing" she said. "Erm, I like singing, I guess i'm good at that.. What do you like to do?" Hariah asked.

Hariah seemed to be nice enough and Jade started to warm up to her a bit. "Thanks," she said in reply to the compliment. Looking down at the sketch, she thought it wasn't all that good. It was a simple fire with a heart in the middle. She thought briefly of her other drawing's and wished she could draw something decent again.

"Well, I like to draw. I'm not really good at much else." Once again Jade was lying when she said that. She knew she was talented at singing but she couldn't bear the thought of singing in front of a crowd. And if she told someone, they might just make her sing in front of people.

Hariah cocked one eyebrow "Somehow I very much doubt that" she said smiling at Jade. She knew what it was like though, wanting to hide, afraid of what other people might say. Hariah never used to boast to people about her singing talent, she had been told not too. But it was a new start and she felt ready to show people now.

"Well your obviously very artistic, have you thought about joining any clubs here?" Hariah asked her. She had already looked at what she could sign up for. There was a wide variety of clubs on offer, something to suit everyone.

Jade could tell that Hariah didn't believe her, by both her actions and her words. "Well it's true." Lie she thought again. Three times now! Jade had an issue with lying, yet here she was, lying every other sentence. Alright, I'm done lying, she told herself.

Jade was actually confused for a moment when Hariah brought up clubs. In truth she hadn't really thought of joining any clubs. There were lots of people there, and Jade didn't like people. "No, not really. Clubs aren't my thing," she replied a bit nervously.

Hariah giggled "Okay, okay. I won't pry anymore" she said putting her hands up. "They're not?" Hariah asked. It was confusing for Hariah to meet someone who wasn't as outgoing as her, back at home she was the quiet one! She loved to surround herself with people, family and friends, so joining a club would be great. There would be people there that shared the same interests as her, which could result in Hariah making a lot more friends.

She decided to change to subject as she knew Jade didn't want to dwell on this and the last thing Hariah wanted was to make someone feel uncomfortable. "So how are you finding classes? Different to back home?" she asked Jade. That was definitely the case for Hariah. Back home she didn't really have any formal education.
