Dan thought he had ventured into the castle's innermost secrets, but so far he knew he hadn't. After all, the castle was huge and he had not visited the outside part of Hogwarts just yet. He decided today was going to be the day. It was pretty hot out, the sun was shining and Dan had the whole afternoon to do as he pleased. He smiled to himself. It was going to be a good day. His sister claimed she had other work to do, and he had looked at her as if she were from a totally different planet. Daniel had wondered many times what 'work' she had to do that he didn't. She might've been lying. Nonetheless, Dan was enjoying himself. He was going to see the lake today, and if that wasn't going to satisfy him, he didn't know what would.

When he arrived, he settled on a nearby bench and waited for his friend, Archie. When he came they would swim, Dan had heard stories of how cold the lake was, but at the moment he didn't care. All he knew was that he wanted to swim and wanted his friend to join him. Of course he could join in if he wanted to, Dan could never force one of his friends to do something. He respected them as much, at least. His sister, on the other hand... well, he could try to convince her at the most. She always gave in anyway. As he waited, the young Slytherin debated how deep the lake was. It looked pretty deep to him. Hopefully Archie would arrive soon, he didn't know him that well but he would make the effort. He'd rather have more friends than enemies. There weren't many students here today, and Daniel hoped the two Slytherin friends would have the lake to themselves at least for a little while.

Deciding that he spent too much time inside of the castle and not that much time outside of it, Archie and his friend Dan had decided they would do something fun outside for once. Archie was grateful that Dan was his friend, he didn't have many. He seemed to alienate most people who he came into contact with which was unfortunate. But then again, if they didn't make the effort to get to know Archie outside of his formalities, were they even worth talking to? Probably not, he decided.

The activity the two boys had decided on today was to try swimming in the great lake. Archie had heard stories of all kinds of things that lived in the lake but he didn't pay much attention to those stories. Maybe seeing one of the many creatures he had heard so much about would be an added bonus to the activity. He wondered if Dan had heard such stories, he didn't seem to be put off going to lake anyway if he had.

He walked towards the lake and saw Dan waiting for him already on a bench. "Good afternoon Dan.." he said introducing his presence. It took all of his being to call his friend by his preferred nickname, he much preferred to call people by their full names, but that's not what Dan wanted. Graciously, Archie had let Dan call him by his nickname rather than Archibald which was the norm for him. By letting him do so, it brought Archie out of his shell a little and helped him to be a bit more open and friendly, which was quite a welcome change he supposed. "It's nice weather for today isn't it?" he commented with a smile. Archie was glad that they were the only two around, he wasn't sure about getting almost completely undressed with people he had never seen before.

Daniel looked up almost as soon as he heard his friend's voice. He smiled at Archie, and commented "Yup, nice weather, hopefully we'll get to swim without anyone bothering us." He shook his head at the thought of encountering a stranger as they were getting in the lake. "Hey, Archie. Want to swim? Or should we wait a little bit? I honestly don't mind," he rambled on not wanting to force his friend to do anything. Dan didn't want to scare him away, after all he liked having friends and he was not about to ruin it. He was in a pretty good mood and what better way to spend his day at the lake. Besides if Amy wasn't going to tell him what was going on and what she was so worried about, might as well take his mind off of the situation by being here. An idea struck him. He looked around at some other students and noticed a rather interesting one. She was reading a book and had Ravenclaw robes on. Typical. "Hey, how about we splash her, or something? Maybe she'll notice us and we can invite her to swim with us." He said in a low voice to Archie, nodding his head in her direction. Why not have a little fun? Daniel didn't notice her before, she must've been sitting there the whole time. He heard her muttering about something which piqued his interest. Now he had to involve her in some way. She was different from some other Ravenclaws he'd seen around in his year. "I mean, doesn't she look like she needs a friend? It could turn out to be fun." As much of a Slytherin as he was, he was still trying to make people feel like they weren't worthless. And this girl seemed rather upset about something. If he had known better, Dan wouldn't have intervened but being the person that he was, he was clueless and so did not leave her alone.

Archie nodded at what Daniel was saying "let's hope so" he preferred not to be a public spectacle. "Well we might as well jump right in" Archie suggested as he took off his robes. "Race you?" he shouted as he ran down the edge of the lake. Archie listened to Dan's suggestion of involving the girl, she seemed like she was in her own world so he was worried about disturbing her, he certainly wouldn't have liked it if someone disturbed him when he was busy reading. But Dan seemed to really want to do this and it did seem fun and Archie did want to make friends and stay friends with Dan so he agreed, albeit reluctantly, with the plan. "Okay, let's do it. She looks a bit lonely. It could be fun" he shrugged and smiled at Dan to reassure him that he was in with the idea.

Oh haha no worries xD

Dan grinned at Archie before darting to the lake after him. He was going to have so much fun today with his fellow housemate. When Archie agreed (albeit hesitantly) to Daniel's plan, he almost yelled out of joy. Almost. He still didn't want to sound crazy, so instead he pumped his fist in the air and said loudly, "yes!" , receiving some strange looks from people who were relaxing and doing their own thing. Dan shrugged at them and turned back to Archie. He nodded when he said that Ravenclaw girl looked lonely, Dan wholeheartedly agreed. Without a second thought he went up to her and was halfway there when he chickened out. Maybe splashing her was a better idea after all. "Okay, splashing her would probably be better...she doesn't seem approachable just yet. She also doesn't seem to notice us. What do you think?" he asked his friend, still glancing at the person they were about to involve, seeming a little confused. Dan sighed and said, "well, we can have our fun in the meantime." He grinned at Archie again, taking his shoes and robes off, and dived into the lake.

Archie laughed at the enthusiasm from Dan, he was glad to have someone like him as a friend. He didn't have too many and it was nice to experience things with others, like today for example. Archie watched as his friend approached the girl, it was interesting to say the least. He ran back to the lake sheepishly. He shrugged his shoulders "she looks pretty engrossed in whatever she is doing, so maybe a sharp shock might make her notice us" he replied to Dan smiling slyly. "like this!" he shouted as he splashed Dan before he could say anything.
