Waiting for Secret Owl

Artemis shuffled her feet back and forth as she looked up at the sky. The day was unusually bright, and it was hard to scan the clouds. She shaded her eyes with her hand as she looked back and forth, skimming the tops of the trees with her eyes.

This owl was important. This owl was dire. She had sent it with the hope of receiving good news in return, though she knew it was unlikely. It was troublesome. Greg certainly was in a bit of trouble, to be sure, but surely one letter to Deirdre would be enough to calm her tight nerves. On the other hand, her second letter troubled her more.

Artemis was barely familiar with the Ater family. She knew Adira only vaguely, being in the same grade, and took but one class with her. As for the rest of the family; she knew only Audel. Of him, she did not even know his face, but only his name, and a vague connection with Greg. It was all too confusing to her. Praying that Deirdre had answers, she watched the skies still, hoping for a release of her fear.
