Valerie met Vince at a bar (while she was underage) the summer before her final year at Hogwarts and instantly fell for his charms; he was from Durmstrang, a year older than her, on vacation and celebrating his graduation in Italy. One thing led to another and Valerie ended up pregnant before she even started her final year at Hogwarts! She had thought Vince would be there for her so she didn't let the rumors about her bother her until he left back to Bulgaria one day without notice and didn't bother to contact her or reply to her letters.
A few days before her graduation, she ended up in the hospital giving birth, so she missed her graduation. Her parents kept her "condition" a secret from their friends and family since it was disgraceful to them so when Deja was finally born, they never let Valeria out of the house. They were so embarrassed by their daughter having an illegitimate child out of wedlock and more importantly, with someone who wasn't pure blood. Also, Asteria (her mother) had Valeria at 17 as well, so she knew what it was like and didn't want her daughter going through that as well. Finally after a few months of constant bickering and being under "house arrest", Valerie escaped, went to see if she could live with Vince in Bulgaria but he wanted nothing to do with her or his child anymore, so she instead ended up in New Zealand randomly, now living with her aunt and uncle Daphne and Charlie Chaos, as they keep her whereabouts private from her parents. Deja is now a year old and Valerie hasn't contacted Vince since then, unaware of what he's now doing.
