During his first few years at Hogwarts Ethan had never really been the studious type, mostly due to a lack of supervision. Without a parent there to remind him to do his homework or study regularly, he didn't have the self-discipline to do it himself. He had been a pre-teen with more freedom he'd ever been used to in his life, so he had picked up some bad habits along the way. However as he got a little older and a little wiser, he had begun to buckle down, knowing that P's weren't going to get him anywhere meaningful if he kept up the way he usually had. Next year he'd be taking his OWLs, but he hoped if he started bettering his study habits now, it might help him be more prepared for next year.
Though soon enough, Ethan found himself getting a bit restless in a stuffy common room or a quiet library, and there was absolutely no hope of studying in his comfy dorm room. So if he wanted to study well, he needed to find a good place to study first. Since he didn't seem to be having much luck indoors, Ethan figured he might try and see if somewhere outdoors might work. Sure, the probability of getting distracted was very high, but he also found that just a bit of fresh air helped him focus during Quidditch practices and games, so perhaps it'd have the same effect for studying. The Hufflepuff took his bag with his textbook and notebook and headed out across the castle grounds. At first he was headed towards the Great Lawn, but halfway there he realized he wanted to be able to look over something. He liked the height that being in the air gave him when he played Quidditch, so sitting over the cliffs would be a good alternative as he studied.
It took him a little while to climb up, and by the time he reached the top he was slightly out of breath, but as soon as he stood up properly to look around he knew he had made the right choice. He didn't want to get too close to the edge, so he looked around until he spotted a large rock he could sit by. He placed his bag down and sat down, leaning his back against the rock. Once he was all settled, he finally took out his books from his bag and flipped to the page he had been studying earlier, hoping to absorb the information this time around.
