Zaros felt out of place. He knew he looked mean, but he couldn't help it that his face was just... offputting. He sighed and walked into the dance, running a hand through his hair. He wasn't sure how to dress up, he was sure he didn't have the right look for the event. He chewed on his lip and just found a place against the wall. Both hands shoved in his pockets, he looked around at the other people there. He wasn't sure how to approach anyone, and honestly he couldn't see anyone he knew either. Not that he knew many people. He ran his tongue over the inside of his cheek. Maybe this had been a bad idea.

Aroha didn't particularly like having to dress up. For one, she didn't really like dresses. They were restrictive and weird, and sure they might look nice to others but what about the sacrifices Aroha had to make? She didn't feel particularly pretty or anything, walking around in a long white gown that her mum had bought. It was a little worn in places, but it wasn't particularly obvious. Something second-hand Aroha's mum had picked up. She looked around for someone to recognise, but it seemed like everyone she knew was either busy with someone else or she just couldn't find them at all. Aroha sighed. Last year someone had approached her and they'd danced and it'd been fun. Where was that guy now? She eventually came to the wall after grabbing some food, and found another student there. He looked a bit mean maybe, but Aroha couldn't be bothered caring about something like that. Might just be his face - some people had mean-looking resting faces. Then you talked to them and it was all fine. "Hey," she greeted him softly, leaning against the wall beside him. "Pretty busy, isn't it?" she commented.

Zaros watched as a girl came to stand beside him, feeling relieved. "That's kind of the point," He replied, kicking himself when it came out harsher than he'd meant it. He winced. "I mean, what's the point of an event no one goes to?" He tried again, but that sounded bad too. He swallowed hard. "It would be a lot of work gone to waste if no one was here," He ran a hand over his hair, taking a breath. "Uh... I'm Zaros," He finally settled on, peeking at the girl, sure she'd be upset by his blunt and unwillingly rude manners.

Aroha was taken aback for a moment, but quickly recovered, giving a small smile. He was being a bit blunt but she didn't mind - he probably had a good point. "Yeah, when you put it like that, it'd be pretty rubbish if no one else was here. Though it'd be fun to have the hall all to ourselves, don't you think?" Her eyes glittered mischievously. "It's a bit cramped. Oh, and I'm Aroha. Nice to meet you." Aroha gave another easy smile. She fidgeted a bit with her dress - she really didn't like the fit of it.

Zaros was a little surprised (and a little relieved) when the girl seemed to understand what he'd meant. He nodded, a bit tersely. "More open space does make things a bit better." He offered, rubbing the back of his neck. "Less of a hassle." He struggled to come up with things to talk about. He peeked at her. "You look uncomfortable." He blurted, before freezing, kicking himself for saying it as soon as it was out of his mouth.
