Kat had just had a thoroughly confusing and slightly heart wrenching conversation with Chace. It was her own fault. She'd wanted an answer from him and well, now she had it. He didn't want to be with her plain and simple. They could be friends, but even she knew that was a long shot. She'd taken a chance knowing that it was slim to none and she'd come out the loser on all ends. She'd lost Sumner and now she had essentially lost Chace too. "Life's a b1tch and love is non-existant," she muttered under her breath as she started through the village looking a right mess dressed in a white tank top and black sweat pants, hoping to make it back up to the castle without having a breakdown.

She passed the bookstore and figured she'd stop and see what kind of selection they had. Purchasing a few novels she thanked the store clerk and walked out of the store, running into something solid as she did and dropping her newly purchased books on the ground. "Just freaking perfect," she said in a snit as she bent down to pick them up, her eyes welling up thinking it was just another crappy event to add to an even more crappy day.

Sumner left the Three Broomsticks and shoved his hands in his pockets. Head down he tread the ground with heavy steps, lost deep in thought. Meeting Tristan had been enlightening, to say the least. Both were into the same Quidditch team, both swore like sailors, hell they even had some of the same mannerisms. But the other stuff, same team position as beaters. Suddenly he felt anger brew within him again. His mum had waited too long, made him wait too long, to meet this man. This guy who would have been the perfect dad to grow up with. To have take him to Quidditch games, practice a few moves in a big backyard, to do wizard stuff. He was pretty damn sure Tristan would have been up front about girls with him. And not left him to fumble about to learn on his own what hell they could wreck.

He stopped and scrubbed at his eyes when someone slammed into his back. "Watch where the fu-," he whirled around, snarling. "Oh. It's you." His greyish blue eyes watched her coldly before he huffed and bent down to help her with her books. She looked too damned pathetic down there. "Here." Shoving them toward her, he stood back up.

sh1t she thought when she heard the all too familiar voice of her ex ringing in her ears. If she had been smart she would have just headed back to the castle in the first place and she would have never had to run into him, but no, she just had to have the damned books. Kat quickly ran her hand across her eyes removing any tell tale signs that she was upset.

She took the books that were so harshly shoved back at her and placed them in her messenger bag. "Yah, it's me. I have a name you know," Kat spat a little nastier than she had intended to be, but it had been one hell of a day and the last thing she needed right now was to get into with Sumner. "Go ahead and finish what you were going to say. You know you want to now that you know it's me. Go ahead...watch where the what?" She was picking a fight and was ready for whatever he was willing to throw at her...maybe somewhere deep down she wanted to fight with him, make him show that somewhere in that stubborn soul of his he still gave a sh1t about her.

Sumner opened his mouth to lay into her. He had the perfect thing to say to her, he couldn't wait to see the look on her face when he let her have it. Then, his eyes met hers, he saw the sadness there. And it hit his gut. That deep wallowy pit where he still had feelings for her. Where he still loved her. He shut his mouth, shoved his hands into his pockets again and looked away. "And you should watch where you're going next time," he bit off, not looking at her. As if her tears, now dried, were indecent to him.

"Wow, big badass Sumner and that's all you can throw at me," she snarled, nostrils flared as she demanded something from him. "And you can't even say it looking me in the eyes." Kat gritted her teeth, fighting back tears, not daring to let him see her cry. Not being able to take it anymore she shoved him with every bit of strength she had in her small body. "Look at me dammit," she yelled, nearly losing it, but reigning it in before she lost control of her emotions.

Sumner budged backward, his right foot slamming back to stagger his balance. Snarling, furious with her for pulling her bull sh1t antics in public, he reached forward and grabbed her arms. Using his strength he picked her up and bodily hauled her into the dark, desert alleyway and slammed her against the building wall. Shoving his face in hers he locked eyes and snarled, "I'm looking now." His face, darkened by shadows, was frightening in its intensity. Why couldn't she leave well enough alone?

She should have been scared, but she wasn't. This was exactly what Kat wanted...wanted to know that he still felt the slightest little bit for her even if it was anger. The breath was knocked out of her when she was slammed against the wall and she sucked in a hard breath, but it hurt to do so. "Then say it. Right to my face say it. Everything. Hurt me the way I hurt you. DO IT," she seethed through gritted teeth, fighting the lump that was forming her her throat.

"Is that what you want?" Sumner felt it, the anger, the pain, the rage, but most of all the ragged hurt she drew from him. He saw it plainly in her face, she wanted to be punished. She wanted him to give her something to use againt him. For him to share in her blame. Something snapped inside. His mouth crushed to hers, not bending, not giving. Pouring his anger into her. His hands let her arms go to bury themselves in her hair, messing it up as his hands fisted.

Kat stared through his eyes, seeing the anger and pain fill them. She was getting what she had wanted and it was breaking her heart, but again that was what she was wanting...at least she knew he was feeling something for her. She was about to retort when he took her by surprise. At first she just stood there limp, unable to move, but then her body took over. Merlin knew that Kat had shared tons of passionate moments with Sumner, but this wasn't it. This was different...it was angry. As he fisted her hair Kat grasped him tightly, pressing her body as close as humanly possible to his, her fingers digging through the fabric of his shirt. This was going to hurt like hell later on when she was alone, but for now she just let his mouth consume hers...let him pour out his anger and aggression towards her the way he always had. She was feeling him, feeling what he felt, how truly pissed her was at her and it was then that she felt the trail of moisture slide down her cheeks...betraying her.

Sumner ground his mouth against hers, wanting to hurt her, wanting her to feel as bad as he did. He could have kept it up, especially after she pressed back, as her mouth moved against his. Until he felt moisture on his skin. It broke through the fog he was swimming in. Breaking away from her lips, he stared into her eyes. Deep blue, eyes that he could once have stared into for eternity, the eyes of his love. Another tear welled, trembled on her long dark lashes and splashed against her skin. It broke him. Damn you, he wanted to rage. Yet as his hands came around to cup her cheeks, as his head lowered and as his mouth claimed hers slowly, thoroughly, hungrily, he knew he was the one who was damned.

No, no, no, no, no she thought as he pulled away from her and looked her in the eyes. She had wanted him to show emotion and instead she betrayed herself and she was the one who broke down. Kat stared back into those greyish green eyes that at one time had brought her peace and made her feel safe. She'd made things worse on herself by fighting with him, she'd taken one step forward and had just slipped three steps back. His hands cupping her face felt hot to the touch, surging through her like wild fire straight to her heart. Once again his mouth claimed her, this time more gently and as she kissed him back with urgency she felt her heart shatter into a million tiny shards, knowing that it was to never be mended again.

Her soft lips, sweet taste, were heaven and hell combined. Sumner's hands slid down her neck, thumbs trailing along her throat, burning fire where they touched. Skin, soft to the touch, made him shudder, draw her closer. "Kat," he murmured against her lips before diving in deeper. His large hands moved to emcompass her slender waist, his strong arms contracted as they slid around her. He pulled her closer, bent his knees slightly, then lifted her up until their lips easily met.

A light moan escaped from her throat as Sumner's hand left a burning trail of light caresses down her neck and throat. Her back arched slightly, pressing her even tighter to him as she felt his strong arms lift her. Cold chills coursed over her body as Sumner murmured her name. Oh how badly this was going to hurt when she did have time to reflect on it, but it was a pain she was willing to suffer just to have him hold her like this. "I...I," she started, but cut herself short before moving her lips in sync with his once more. He didn't want to hear that she still loved him so what was the point in saying it.

Sumner was lost to the madness. Consumed by it, yet he reveled in the insanity of their passion. Yesterday didn't matter, here, now, Kat in his arms once more, this was what mattered. "Say it," he urged her, nipping at her mouth, before trailing open mouthed kisses down her throat, nipping at her skin with his teeth. He didn't know what he wanted to hear, something inside was propelling him. Say it...

Kat's head flung back and a low groan escaped her throat as he made his way down her throat with his mouth. Her grip tightened on him, never wanting to let him go. "I," she manged to slip out before he nipped at her skin once more and then finished in one breathless whisper, "love you." That was it. She had officially dipped into dangerous territory for both of them, past the point of no return. Kat brought his mouth back to hers, handfuls of his hair in both of her hands as she whispered against his mouth, just barely audible, "Please don't let me go."

Yes...Sumner groaned, pulling her impossibly close against him, his mouth devouring hers. His guard dropped, his shields lowered and he felt his heart begin to pound within his chest, coming to life once more. I love you. He came up for air, "I love you Kat. I never stopped." He buried his face in her neck, hugging her to him as if he would never let go. Could they get back together, gain what they had lost?

Somehow at his confession she felt what she had thought had been eternally shattered begin to mend itself piece by broken piece. Her heart felt light and the ache was gone. He did still love her. Kat let her head rest on his shoulder, her hot breath brushing across his skin. Her breathing was heavy as she held tight to him, fearing that he'd slip away once more. Tear filled eyes spilled over slightly as she repeated it in his ear, "I love you. I'll never stop." Was there hope? There had to be...right?

Shivers slithered down his spine as her declaration blew into his ear. This had to work. They had to be together. He had felt dead inside without her, angry with the world, with himself, but most of all with her for betraying him. Betraying him with his enemy. He lowered her until her feet touched the ground, weak from the sudden kick to the gut as the image of her kissing Chace Harker slammed into his mind, branded there by her duplicity. He wanted to forgive her, he wanted to forget, he wanted to move forward. Most of all he just wanted her in his life again. "How can I be sure you won't do that again?"

And just like that the ache was back. Her arms hung limply by her sides as he set her back on her feet, though she had to hold on to the wall behind her for support because her legs felt shaky...unsteady just like everything else in her life. Her mind flitted back to earlier in the day when she'd talked with Chace. "I...you're just going to have to trust me. Sumner you're the one I want to be with, you and only you," she said pleadingly. "What happened meant nothing," she lied, though she didn't let her face betray her this time. She'd lie like hell to get him back and would completely forsake Chace if that was what it took. "Every day I live with the guilt of what I did. Never again will I ever let something so stupid happen," she said, moisture streaming down her face as she grabbed his hand and squeezed it tightly.

Nothing. Sumner gripped her hand in his, brought it to his lips as coldness once again enveloped him. Head still ducked down, her hand in his, he spoke softly. "You let him put his mouth on yours, let him put his hands on you. Broke my heart. And it was for nothing?" He raised painfully dry eyes to hers, letting his hand fall to his side and stepped back from her. "If he had meant something to you," he said quietly, back ramrod straight, hands fisted at his sides, "then I could have understood. Yet it meant nothing."

Caught in her own lie and she knew it. She was falling and now had nothing to pull her back. Like sand through an hour glass he was slipping away from her and she couldn't get to him fast enough. "He...I...Sumner please don't," Kat pleaded pathetically, feeling the hole inside of her start to rip open again as she wrapped her arms around her midsection to stop everything from falling apart. "You can honestly look me in the eye and say that you would have understood? No...none of it would have made any difference to you," she said now getting angry again, shaking all over. "What did you want to hear? Yes I did have unresolved feelings for him. Does that make you feel better? Do you understand that? Show me just how understanding you are," she cried, at a loss, words pouring from her mouth before she could stop them.

Her anger fueled his. Sumner erupted. "If you had come to me, hours, even days before it happened," he shouted, pointing his finger at her, "then I would have listened." His hand speared through his hair, he paced for a moment before turning to her. His voice lowered. "I would have listened. We would have worked it out." His head cocked slightly to the side as realization dawned on him. "You didn't want it to be that way. You were going to test him, see if he was the one who got away."

Kat smacked his hand out of the way as he pointed his finger accusingly at her. "I call bull sh1t. You would have went and beat the hell out of him just like you always do," she hissed with her fists clenched tightly by her sides. Her eyes widened in shock and then hell's fury flashed in them. "Screw you Sumner. You're the one that I want to be with not Chace, but if your sick little theory is what helps you sleep at night then you go ahead and think that all you want," she fumed, "God what else do you want me to do? Stand on my head and admit to all of New Zealand that I'm the slut that cheated on you?" She watched him pace around and then a thought hit her. One other person that she had forgotten to throw into the equation. "One thing I do want you to tell me. Lily did the exact same thing to Blake that I did to you," she started, "Tell me, how is it that you can now be buddy buddy with her when she's no better than I am, but you aren't willing to give me a second chance?"

Sumner swore and slammed his fist into the brick wall. The pain was excruciating; he welcomed it. He whirled to face her, blood dripping from his scrapped knuckles. "Because it wasn't Lily dragging some random guy into a broom closet, it was my f*&cking girlfriend!" He'd not bow down, let the victor blame it on the victim. "You know why I was in there with her? Because I saw our friend, my bloody captain, crying her eyes out and I," he jabbed a thumb into his chest, smearing blood across his grey tee shirt, his lips peeled back in a feral grimace,"didn't want anyone to see her broken." He held his hands out in a jerky motion. "So whatever the f*&k I've been doing with her now has nothing to do with anybody." It wasn't about the snogging, it wasn't about trying to not get caught. It was solace with Lily. She helped to hold in his bleeding gut from where Kat had dug her claws into it and ripped him open.

Kat flinched as Sumner's knuckles collided with the brick wall and cowered as he let into her, his words hitting true to their target...straight to her heart. "I know why you were in there with her you ass. I've already made my peace with Lily so get your damned knickers out of a knot," she glared at the Ravenclaw in front of her. Then what he said made her ears perk and her blood boil. "What the hell do you mean what you've been doing with her? I just wanted to know why you could still be her friend, but..." Kat's voice trailed off as a reality hit her hard. Nostrils flared and fists in balls she started swinging with hatred. "You dumb son of a b1tch. Of all the people you could have gone and f*cked around with and you chose Lily?" She was getting in a few good licks here and there, but for the most part she was hitting nothing but air and it was getting hard for her to breathe.
