Jennifer did not have a date to the Yule Ball, in fact she was happier that she didn`t. She was free to do as she pleased tonight and actually enjoy herself, whether that meant with her friends, with a stranger or flirting shamelessly with someone it was of no consequence.
Two weeks ago she wouldn`t have gone, she wouldn`t have even thought about purchasing a dress (with her mother`s money) but seeing Jessica and Matthew changed something in her. It made Jennifer, Jenny and happier, it made her want to be around people rather than push them away and with that in mind she fixed her flaxen blonde strands into curls, lightly dashed on some make up and pulled her cream coloured dress on.
Jenn had to get the aid of one of her dorm mate to get it tied on properly and as she put on her heals and walked towards the full length mirror she admired herself. She never dressed up or did this sort of stuff, in fact the last time she had was with Sam in their first year and now in her third year and so much under her sash she walked out confidently.
Jennifer didn`t take the Yule Ball too seriously, in fact she really could care less about it. The significance it held was a different story all together. She needed to get out of her rut and she needed to now. If Matthew or Jessie noticed how bad she was by the Christmas vacation they would be able to tell that something was wrong.
With a semi-false smile on her pink lips, Jennifer entered the magnificently decorated Great Hall, appreciating the hard work the Elves and the staff did to bright this all together as she walked in, listening to the music as it played softly. But as she had no one to dance with, she passed the couples and made her way over to the refreshments. As she took a glass of water she convinced herself that she would, at some point, converse with others, that she would get onto the dance floor before the night was over and that she would have a good time.
