Jessica had been finding her second year at Hogwarts slightly more complicated than her first. While last year had arguably been a larger adjustment period in terms of being by herself in a world that she didn't particularly want to be a part of, at least she had possessed clear opinions about what she thought of magical society. However, now she was beginning to realise that while such an attitude could be excused during her first year, she was supposed to be getting used to the way the wizarding world worked, and even accept it. People here viewed their magic as something to be proud of, something that marked them apart from muggles in a positive way. It was an attitude that slightly annoyed her, but she didn't want the fact that she disagreed with it to set her apart from others if there was no need to. So now she was swinging back and forth between wanting to stay true to her own insistence to snub as much of the magical world as possible, and becoming more ingrained in it to remain in line with those she wanted to think well of her.
Maybe that was why she was hoping to find Brooklyn so badly. The other girl had been one of the first people Jessica had spoken to last year, and something about her had been comforting in a way that was hard to pin down. Brooklyn had been the first to warn her about the possibility of being a target for prejudice due to her muggle background, and had done so in a way that made Jessica rather admire the other girl - Brooklyn's certainty that she could handle such a situation if it ever happened to herself had felt kind of supporting in a way, like if she could do it, so could Jessica. Nothing of the sort had happened to either of them, as far as Jessica knew, but for some reason she felt like her inner conflict might not seem so complicated in the presence of the other girl. Mostly though, she wanted to talk to Brooklyn just because it seemed to be a good time for them to catch up again. It was warm outside today, and so she thought she might find the other girl out in the grounds somewhere, taking advantage of the weather to enjoy one of the sporting activities she enjoyed. Scanning the lawn area, Jessica was pleased to see that she was right and headed towards the other girl, giving her a large wave as she called to gain her attention. "Brooklyn, hello!" She waited until she was close enough to engage in a normal level of conversation, then said, "I'm so glad I found you. I've been meaning to have a proper chat with you for ages, see how you've been - but the weeks and schoolwork always seem to be getting away from me. Have you noticed that?" Hopefully Brooklyn wouldn't be annoyed that she had been interrupted.
