Jessica had been finding her second year at Hogwarts slightly more complicated than her first. While last year had arguably been a larger adjustment period in terms of being by herself in a world that she didn't particularly want to be a part of, at least she had possessed clear opinions about what she thought of magical society. However, now she was beginning to realise that while such an attitude could be excused during her first year, she was supposed to be getting used to the way the wizarding world worked, and even accept it. People here viewed their magic as something to be proud of, something that marked them apart from muggles in a positive way. It was an attitude that slightly annoyed her, but she didn't want the fact that she disagreed with it to set her apart from others if there was no need to. So now she was swinging back and forth between wanting to stay true to her own insistence to snub as much of the magical world as possible, and becoming more ingrained in it to remain in line with those she wanted to think well of her.

Maybe that was why she was hoping to find Brooklyn so badly. The other girl had been one of the first people Jessica had spoken to last year, and something about her had been comforting in a way that was hard to pin down. Brooklyn had been the first to warn her about the possibility of being a target for prejudice due to her muggle background, and had done so in a way that made Jessica rather admire the other girl - Brooklyn's certainty that she could handle such a situation if it ever happened to herself had felt kind of supporting in a way, like if she could do it, so could Jessica. Nothing of the sort had happened to either of them, as far as Jessica knew, but for some reason she felt like her inner conflict might not seem so complicated in the presence of the other girl. Mostly though, she wanted to talk to Brooklyn just because it seemed to be a good time for them to catch up again. It was warm outside today, and so she thought she might find the other girl out in the grounds somewhere, taking advantage of the weather to enjoy one of the sporting activities she enjoyed. Scanning the lawn area, Jessica was pleased to see that she was right and headed towards the other girl, giving her a large wave as she called to gain her attention. "Brooklyn, hello!" She waited until she was close enough to engage in a normal level of conversation, then said, "I'm so glad I found you. I've been meaning to have a proper chat with you for ages, see how you've been - but the weeks and schoolwork always seem to be getting away from me. Have you noticed that?" Hopefully Brooklyn wouldn't be annoyed that she had been interrupted.

Balancing a ball under her sneakers, Brooklyn Vacarius practiced her dribbling out on the lawns of Hogwarts New Zealand. She needed to stay on top of her game, while also balancing a chemistry book in her other hand. Of course, the book was muggle, and within her age level, if not a year higher. Staying on top of muggle subjects were hard while she worked on magic, and her sports that included flying on a broom. Brooklyn had a busy life, and hardly had time to socialize. She met a few people that she could consider friends, even though a lot were in other houses. Brooklyn was skeptical about Slytherins, but luckily, she seemed to enjoy the company of Jessica Matthews, someone who shared a similar background as her, though her twin was unable to join them in Hogwarts, which was sad. Brooklyn came to the school after her brother, Logan, graduated. So, she was feeling similar, but not as much as having a twin would have felt. Brooklyn was not envious of course, cause she loved her brothers.

Someone called her name, which snapped her out of focus enough to drop her book. Brooklyn looked up to see Jessica, before smiling and bending down to pick up her book, while letting the ball roll inches from her sneakers. She gave a small wave as the toher Slytherin approached her. Normally, she might have been annoyed that someone interrupted her studying, but this was Jessica. "I bet the OWLs will be even worse. But I'm caught up and just looking over my muggle studies." Brooklyn gestured toward the book she was reading. "How have you been, Jessica?I hope you are a little less busy than me." Brooklyn giggled a bit, before her mind wondered to why she had been busy. Was it because she was just too stubborn to let go of the muggle world?
