Transfiguration 3:2

Lesson Two: Learning Locusta (frog into grashopper)
Leif admittedly wasn't the biggest fan of today's lesson, shooting a glance at the large glass tank on his desk while he waved his wand to open his classroom door. He made sure to keep an eye on the frogs inside of the tank though, hoping they kept calm but already spotting a few troublemakers between them.

"Welcome back!" He greeted his students when he closed the door to the room with another flick of his wand. "Today we'll be starting on Animate to Animate Transfiguration for the first time. Hence the frogs." Leif grinned, nodding towards the large tank that took up almost all of his desk space. "Animate to Animate Transfiguration is going to prove more difficult than the other things we've been practicing until now so I hope you're all up for a challenge." He explained, calmly watching his students' reactions. Animate to Animate Transfiguration was a debatable subject for some so he quietly prepared himself for the chance of there being some pushback before he continued.

"Today we'll be learning how to transfigure these guys into grasshoppers. I know some of you might be reluctant when it comes to this type of transfiguration so I'd like to remind you that this is not a painful progress. It's not harmful to the creatures we're transfiguring. Not even if you mess it up. Although I'd advice you all tro try your absolute best." Leif continued, hoping no one would protest. He'd hate to have his classroom turn into a debate space.

"The type of transfiguration we'll be performing today is referred to as Cross-Species Transfiguration. A term you might want to write down." He told them with a wink. "It requires a lot more concentration and visualization so make sure you concentrate and give it your all." He paused for a second to make sure his class was paying attention to what he was saying. Mistakes could happen, but he'd rather not deal with them.

"Now, for the practical part." Leif stepped back over to the terrarium and lifted out a large frog, setting it down on what little free space was left on his desk. It hopped around a little, but didn't seem too keen on actually jumping off the desk. "The wand movement for this pell is simple, just straighten your arm and point your wand directly at the frog." He stated, demonstrating what he was telling them. "These buggers will move, so make sure you adjust your aim accordingly. Once you're sure you've got good aim.. Locusta!" He incantated, watching the frog shift into a bright green grasshopper. In comparion to the frog though, the grasshopper didn't seem as reluctant and jumped right off his desk before hopping towards the centre of the classroom. "Whoops. Someone get that back to me, please." He laughed, waving his wand to freeze the grasshopper in mid-air so one of his students could easily bring it back to him. "Anyways. Make sure to keep track of your frog. Or grasshopper. Whichever species it is at the time. Now, I'd like you all to come up to my desk, get a frog and return to your seat. There will be no leaving your seats after that. Chances of one of these creatures hopping off are not particularly slim and we wouldn't want you stepping on one of them now, would we? Alright, that's about all. Let's get to it!" Leif smiled, waving his wand to make the incantation appear on the board just in case and handing out frogs to his students as they came up to his desk.

Roleplay turning a frog into a grasshopper for full marks.
One student may retrieve the grasshopper professor Odegard froze and return it to him for some house points.

Hazel knew Transfiguration was usually a pretty difficult class, but she was just going to do her best. The professor told them they would be starting Animate to Animate Transfiguration, turning frogs into grasshoppers. He reminded them it wasn't painful or harmful to the creatures, though that sounded a bit doubtful to Hazel. She noted down the term he mentioned, as she figured him mentioning it meant it would be on the exam. She watched closely as the professor demonstrated the wand movement and the incantation. He made it look easy, but Hazel let out a little scream as the thing suddenly hopped in her direction, pushing her chair back to avoid it. She wasn't scared of bugs, but she didn't like it when they jumped at her. She didn't make a move to pick it up either, let someone else do that. Then it was time to get started, it took Hazel quite a few tries before anything happened, but she eventually managed to transform it. She was relieved and quickly brought the bug back to the professor. When the lesson was over, she left, hoping there weren't any grasshoppers that jumped into her hair or robes.

Apolline was enjoying the semester so far, she felt rather confident that her choices for this semester were good, that she was enjoying them a lot and that would mean she did well in them. They were just interesting, and she had largely picked them based on what she found interesting. The gryffindor was just checking over her homework, as she was getting ready for the day ahead, making sure that she had everything that she would need for the day before heading out of the room and to her first class of the day.

Apolline walked into the transfiguration classroom and took her usual spot in the room. She glanced at the professor as the man got started, and noted that he had a rather large glass tank of frogs behind him. That was quite something. She wasn’t sure how good it was to have that many frogs but clearly that was for this class. She took her quill and wrote down a little what he said about the spell that they were going over that day. She then took one of the frogs as it was handed to her, and repeated the incantation the professor had told them, while imagining it turning into a grasshopper. She then did the wand movement and said. ”Locusta,” it took a few attempts but she did finally get it and then had to hurry to stop it from jumping away. She was very pleased with it and then was able to pack up and head out of the room.
