Mary Lou had been called to stay back in class a couple of times this week, though she wasn't all that surprised since she had not been doing particularly well in her classes up to this point. She didn't understand it and she wasn't a proper witch, so she wasn't sure how she was supposed to do well in her classes anyway. She sighed, the other girl who'd been called out in class was beside her and she looked at her sadly as she lifted her hand to knock on the door. Her wand was securely in the pocket of her robes as she waited for them to be called in. She didn't know they other girl well, only when she'd seen her in classes, but the sympathetic look in her eyes for the other girl was real as she held her breath slightly. She didn't know what the Professor was like outside the classroom, she just hoped he would let her explain.

Emmy was mortified that she had to stay behind after class. She had definitely thought she got away with her trick. The Professor had even said well done! She wondered if someone else had told on her...or if it was to do with something else. Perhaps it was because she didn't try to lift anything else afterwards? Emmy wasn't sure. She sent a small smile to the other girl that was there, about to ask what she had done wrong before the girl knocked on the door. Oh well, she was sure she'd find out soon enough.

Professor Kain was for the most part, pleased with his first years. There were a few that stood out too, as those who really tried to push themselves in and outside the classroom, although there were also a couple that seemed to struggle. After the last lesson, it had been very busy to keep an eye on everyone, but ultimately he'd asked two of his students to stay back and meet him in his office. A few moments later, he heard the knock on his door, and the Charms professor opened the gateway to his office, just finishing brewing himself a cup of coffee after the lesson in an attempt to remain alert for the rest of the day. "Hey guys, come on in," he beckoned, resting the mug of brown liquid on his desk before closing the door by hand once they'd stepped through the threshold. He didn't ask them to take a seat; if they wanted to, they would. The professor himself perched on his desk to face them, one more picking up his coffee to take a sip. "Either of you know why I asked you to come here?" he questioned, curious to know their thoughts on whether they'd had any trouble.

Mary Lou was never going to get used to people opening their doors from half way across the room. It just made no sense to her. She could understand why people would do it of course, but, from half way across the room, with magic, that was part she found hard to understand. She stepped inside, looking back at the Gryffindor as she entered. "This is about... my not participating, right?" She asked, already pretty sure she knew what she had been called in for. She wished it was't true, but it was and that was it. No changing it now.
