Time to start over

[Ailis-Naithi Quinlan-Maddix]

Ailis walked through a courtyard in the school and came to a large tree where she chose to sit down, under it's high widely spread branches. She lent back against it's trunk and looked up through the leaves and twisted, intertwining limbs. Even though she was alone, which was nothing new for her, it felt different. It was the kind of alone where she didn't feel lonely.


Ailis closed her eyes and began to hum quietly to herself. She felt calm and happy in this school for once. This was a new feeling for her and she wished it wouldn't end.

Levi was bored once again, most of his usual girls or friends busy with their own activities or studying. It seemed that that was the downside to being a sixth year and not graduating. Now he was going to be alone for his last year of school after break. He just sighed and walked around the campus, unbelievably bored. That is, until he saw a girl around his age by herself.

He wasn't one to flirt without being on a name basis, but that could always change. He made his way over to her, smiling, and then poked her shoulder. "A pretty girl like you probably shouldn't be alone in a school like this, dear." Levi laughed, signalling he wasn't serious, and really he was just being a dork.

Ailis opened her eyes at the sound of a boys voice close by and a poke to the shoulder. She smiled and blushed slightly when he called her pretty. "Thanks." She said and laughed along with him and then patted the ground next to her, signalling him to join her under the tree.

"So what's your name?" She asked him curiously. It was still a little odd for her to have people being nice to her instead of beating her up, but she hid this putting on a front of confidence.

Levi sat without a question, grinning at her and poking her blush boldly. It seemed to be a necessary at the moment. Then again, some things he considered necessary actually weren't by any means. "No problem little lady! I'm just stating the truth!"

"Levi Reynolds. What can I call you?" He smiled at her and took a fuzz out of his hair, humming and relaxing more with the idea of company. It seemed that today actually wouldn't be as boring as he first perceived it.

Ailis turned to face him after he poke her in the face with a mock scowl which quickly turned into a laugh and she pushed his shoulder a little. "You know that's the nicest thing someone has said to me in quite a while" She replied smiling at him.

"Ailis just call me Ailis. It's probably easier that way" She laughed and then continued to explain " My parent decided to give me a double barreled first name and last name." She smiled again, " Levi, that's a nice name" She hoped this would be the start of a friendship. Her first proper friend her own age in this place.

"Aw." The boy frowned and pat her back for the sake of consoling her. Then again, at the same time, that was a terrible thing to do to someone, not complimenting them. To Levi, no one really knew what another person was going through, and a compliment might make or break their day.

Levi grinned and nodded, though he couldn't relate. The boy just had a first and last name, not even a middle name. Plus, it wasn't even a long first name. Levi had four words after all. He yawned a little and raised a brow at her, lowering it and raising to get the girl to laugh. "I like Ailis. It's original."

Ailis smiled a little when Levi patted her back "It's ok. It was just nice to be complimented for once. So thank you again." She was starting to like this boy already. He was funny and nice. Maybe they really could be friends. She hoped so.

Ailis laughed as Levi wiggled an eyebrow at her. "Thank you. It's Irish for Alice. So not hugely original" She said and laughed again before leaning back against the tree again and looking into the leaves, a smile still lingering on her face.
