Third Years, Week One [Welcome]

Third year Defence Against the Dark Arts had been Geovanna's favourite subject as a student at Hogwarts. It had something to do with the fact that she was being taught by one of the most admirable Professors she'd ever met, and she'd wanted to impress Professor Styx that she capable of handling herself. It also was the year that she found herself moving away from the theory and foundation of a subject she wanted a career in, and had the chance to experience what the topic really had to offer.

"Welcome back to Defence Against the Dark Arts!" Geo stood from the desk, rounding it to stand at the front of the class and cast her eyes across the familiar faces. "For those who have transferred, my name is Professor Adler and I will be your teacher until you move into the upper classes," she announced, writing her name on the board behind her. Most in the school already knew she preferred to go by Adler rather than Adler-Cade in a professional vicinity; it gave her her individuality from the man that would take over their classes once they were fifth years.

"This year we will be learning about something a little different." Defence Against the Dark Arts after all, wasn't only about the spells. "Can anyone tell me why we might be studying Creatures in this class, when there is already another elective that some of you may well be taking this year, that is fully focused on Creatures?" Geo posed, giving the students a moment to think about their answers before nodding to one of the third years with their hand raised. "Very good! Ten points to you!", Professor Adler was happy to reward those that put themselves out there. "This year we'll be looking at a number of Creatures, but not those you'd likely find out on the grounds. These creatures will take advantage any way they can, some may even try to use parts of you against yourself." The Boggart could bring out the darkest parts of someone's fears. "However, as long as you're careful and you follow instructions you have nothing to worry about. We'll be training you on what to expect from these creatures as well as how to protect yourself, and believe you me I'd rather not see any one of you harmed at any point during a lesson." Whether it was a creature or from a spell, Professor Adler's role wasn't just to teach the students to defend themselves, but to ensure that they were protected while they were learning, too.

"Next week we will be discussing the topic of werewolves," Geo had befriended a werewolf while a student at school, and was more aware than most that you could be sat beside a werewolf and never know it. While she didn't like to suggest that those who were unfortunate enough to turn once a month were considered a dark creature, it would be wise to at least teach the students how to be careful. "I'd like you to bring a question about werewolves with you for the discussion next week, and we'll go into this in more detail. It also might be worth reading the chapter in your textbook about werewolves for the remainder of the lesson," Professor Adler began to head back to her seat. "And if you'd like to speak to me about anything prior to next week too, please come and see me after class."

Eloise had taken an interest in defence against the dark arts, even though she found it a bit scary at times. The Hufflepuff was always a keen learner. She quickly packed up the things she needed for the lesson before skipping happily to her class. Once she arrived, she happily took a seat in the middle of the class, taking out the things she needed for the lesson from her bag and placing them on the desk in front of her.

It wasn't long before the professor started off with the lesson. Eloise listened carefully to what the professor had been saying, not wanting to miss out on anything important. The Hufflepuff had liked that they were going to be learning about different creatures here too, and not just in care of magical creatures, and Eloise was quite happy about that. They were going to be learning about werewolves next lesson, which piqued Eloise's interest a little. Eloise continued to write notes, nodding her head along to what the professor was saying to show that she was understanding the content that had been said and given.

It wasn't long before the lesson had come to an end, and they were dismissed. Eloise quickly packed up her things as well as her area. She then says a quick thanks and goodbye to the professor before heading out of the classroom with her friends and the rest of her classmates, thinking of what sort of question to ask about werewolves in the next lesson.

Are there any ways to help or support those who have the condition? if so what are the best ways to help those who do have the condition?

Defence Against the Dark Arts was always a strange subject for Arachne. She was probably one of the few people who preferred the lectures on interesting dark magic to the learning of spells they could hurl at their classmates in a duel. She wasn't sure how she felt about the professor either, though she mostly had a positive impression.

The girl made her way into the classroom and found a seat next to Eloise. She was glad to hear they would cover magical creatures this year, though she didn't want to answer the proefssor's question. She listened closely to waht the professor said, then wrote down a question for the next lesson.

If a werewolf dies, do the bones stay the way they were when they were transformed or do they turn back into human bones?

Priyanka was expecting protection from dark spirits more this time, because it would definitely be more difficult, but it seemed like she was ready for anything. She had already prepared new notes in advance because she didn't know if there would be enough space in the current ones. Priya settled into the classroom, taking out everything she needed and while she waited, she cleaned her glasses for better visibility, but the lesson also started as soon as everyone was settled and gathered. Then the professor started the lesson, Priyanka was ready to write down everything that was said.

Then the professor asked a question, Priyanka looked to see if anyone would know the answer first, but when she saw no one raising their hand, she raised her hand. "So that we know how to protect ourselves from them when we encounter them." she said, but she didn't really know if the answer was correct. Lowering her hand, she took the pen in her hand again and started writing again. There wasn't much to write by the end of the lesson, but my hand still started to hurt a little and I had to massage it a little.

And then the class ended, the professor announced the topic for next week. Priyanka wrote down the werewolves and that she could prepare a question to ask. She put her things in her bag, said goodbye to the professor and left the classroom.

If there is no expressed fear, can a Boggart guess what a person's greatest fear is?

James sat and listened to Professor Adler introduce herself in case anyone was new. He was pretty sure there weren’t any new faces among his third-year classmates, but then he didn’t know every one of them. They were studying creatures which James found a little surprising, but it was soon explained that they were specifically looking at dark creatures and in most cases, how to defend against them. That did sound quite interesting. James was looking forward to getting stuck into werewolves in their next lesson. Once the lesson was over, he packed up and made his way out of the classroom.

Juniper had a weird relationship with Defence Against the Dark Arts. in one hand she hated the subject because it always made her feel unwell and on edge but in the other hand Professor Adler was one of her favourites and made the subject less scary. As she walked into the classroom she noted two of her roommates sitting already next to each other and found her way to the row with them, sitting next to Arachne with a shy smile.

Juniper listened to Professor Adler, gulping a little at the fact that they'd be learning about the darker creatures this year. She hated the sound of creatures using parts of yourself against you and much like every other time Juniper felt her face pale as the lesson went on. She was interested however to learn more about werewolves so as the lesson concluded she wrote down a question, giving it to Professor Adler on her way out.

Can werewolves sleep normally?

Gaia hadn't minded DADA in her first few years so it'd been no biggie to keep taking it. Walking into the classroom with her sketchbook in hand the third year found herself a seat and sat down. As Professor Adler began the lesson Gaia followed it while sketching another dragon in her sketchbook. The mention of Creatures jolted a bit of excitement in her and made her follow even more closely, though she knew of at least one of the creatures. It'd taken some time but eventually Nia had told her what had gotten her so off the kilter at the end of first semester last year, it'd been the boggart. While Gaia wasn't sure what she was most afraid of she was in no rush to find out either. At the end of the class she wrote down a question, dropping it on the Professors desk as she headed out.

If I bite a werewolf, will I be infected and get the condition also?
