Third Years, Lesson Two

Out of all of the lessons Landon was to teach, today's lesson had to be by far the best one. He was so exceptionally excited for it that he dressed in his best muggle clothes and came to class early just so he could place all of the pamphlets he had on each of the desks and make sure everything was perfect in the classroom before leaving. Travelling was always his favourite thing to do. He hoped that this excursion outside of the classroom would teach the students as much as it could. In Landon's opinion, travelling was always good to learn new things and if the children did not listen today then it would be their own fault if they happened to fail their exam.

Student after student, they all eventually came walking in which just made Landon even more excited. He hoped that they would all be on their best behaviour. "Before you ask about the paper and pouch in front, we are taking a field trip to Chelsea Physic Gardens, in the heart of London. The pamphlet explains the rich history of the expansive garden. In the pouch are twenty galleons in there. It is for the fair." Landon quickly began the lesson once everyone had finally made their way inside. "The fair will be to celebrate Winterfest which hopefully will make the trip even better! Leave your bags here and we are leaving by portkey."

Landon led the students past the gates where he had them place their hand on a boot. In moments, they were spiraling through the air and landed on a grassy hill. Landon, who landed on his feet perfectly, looked around first to see if all of his students were alright and then pointed out the lands of Chelsea Physic Gardens. "It was founded back in 1673 by apothecaries. Its vast lands and plants were used as a good tool for teaching their apprentices about their craft. Obviously it's been added onto and has changed owners throughout the centuries."

Along the sprawling gardens there were huge tents set up, filled with merchants selling their wares. Landon turned to his students and warned, "You have two hours here. I will be walking around, making sure no one is up to any trouble. Split up or pair off and go enjoy yourselves." Landon pulled out many enchanted maps for the entire class. He explained, "This is a map of the entire grounds. It has all of us on there, except me of course. You will see a dot with your name on it. In the corner is an hourglass, telling you when to be back at the portkey on the hill back to the castle." With that, Landon departed, heading about his own ways.

Assignment: RP the lesson.

Alana was curious about the pamphlet she found on her desk when she arrived at the greenhouse for another Herbology lesson but Professor Carter quickly explained its purpose. They would be heading off site for a field trip to the Chelsea physic gardens and the pamphlet gave them information on their destination. Alana was grateful to be heading somewhere different, she had already grown sick of the sight of the herbology greenhouse already despite only being back at school for a few weeks.

Having taken the portkey to the garden and shaking off the uncomfortable feeling she always had after that particular method of transport, Alana turned her attention to Professor Carter who gave them their instructions, including when to be back and how to keep an eye on things. Once they were given the freedom to explore Alana set off. The garden was pretty cool and she had some fun spotting some of the plants they had learned about during class and seeing some new things. The Winterfest fair gave the place an almost festival like atmosphere which made just being there seem like fun. Once her time was up Alana made her way back to Professor Carter and the portkey and they journeyed back to the greenhouse.

Magne walked into the herbology classroom wearing his muggle clothes as the professor had told them to. He listened to what they would be doing that day, and then felt pretty excited, he’d never been to chelsea, he’d never been to england. The teen just took the things the professor handed each of them and then took the portkey and was transported to it. He then wandered off on his own exploring the place, eager to speak with the merchants that were about, and then to see the garden itself. It was winter so it wasn’t in the best state, but he liked it anyway. Eventually the time he had ran up and he then headed back to the meeting point and then back to the school.

As unpleasant the after effects of portkey travel were, it still blew Sofi's mind that they could travel around the world in no time at all. And after three years around magic, she thought it was a shame that wizards didn’t share this ability with muggles to save on emissions worldwide. Of course, it would have everything to do with the Statue of Secrecy, but Sofi still thought it was a missed opportunity and a shame.

Putting her thoughts to one side, she traveled with the class all the way to Chelsea, London, and after a short necessary recovery, Sofi wondered around exploring the gardens and stalls. She was impressed with the map they had been given, and kept a track on time by checking the hourglass. After two hours, she headed back to the portkey to return to New Zealand.

Addison went to the greenhouse with the idea of taking care of the plants, so when she sat down, she noticed a paper bag on the table, it seemed a little strange. Did it contain seeds that would be planted in pots today? She looked at the paper bag, but the professor started the lesson and announced that they were going on a tour of the Chelsea Physic Garden, in London. Addison read a brochure about the history of the garden, but when the professor asked them to touch the portkey so that they could go to London, she did so.

Then after a few minutes, they were there. Addison listened to the professor tell a little story about who discovered this garden, but then they had two hours to look at the garden, and she didn't hesitate for long and went to look at the garden, looking at all the plants that were here and it seemed interesting. When the time came, she went to the hourglass to return back to the castle.
