Third Years, Lesson One

FIRST LESSON
Noel sat behind his desk, enjoying his coffee when the classroom door opened and the third year class walked in. He finished his coffee and welcomed them with an friendly smile. Feeling excited about the first lesson for the third years. The subject they would be studying throughout the semester was one very interesting as well he thought. Hopefully the students would think the same. As everyone seemed to be inside he closed the door with an quick move of his hand. He than went standing in front of his desk and looked at the third years, trying to the different faces. '' Hello everyone and welcome back to Defence Against The Dark Arts.'' Noel started and looked at the students with his friendly brown eyes.

'' I’m sure you are curious to what this year brings. Some of you might perhaps be taking Care of Magical Creatures this semester, but we will here also focus on some creatures in this class.'' He than explained and saw some students frowning, but some seemed to like the idea. '' You must be wondering why we would be studying creatures in this class? Why would we if there is an elective that is all about magical creatures..?'' He than knew that was something in the heads of the third years and layed that open as an question. And gave them a smile. Seeing some people putting an hand in the air, they seemed to be prepared and done some reading. And than smiled and giving someone an shot to try and explain. Once the answer was given he smiled and gave an approval nod. ''Excellent answer, two extra points to your house!'' He than awarded the student and moved on, walking towards the classroom as he continued. '' We will take a look at a variety of different dark creatures and possible defences against each of them. Keep in mind that some of these creatures are vile beings and will pounce on you at the first opportunity. While others may try to feed off of your emotions. You'll encounter some of these dark creatures during the semester, but as long as you listen and do as I say, you'll have nothing to fear from them.'' He than made sure to calm some who might not were so enthiosiastic about it.

As he looked at the time, he saw he was good on schedule. He than cleared his throat to get attention again. '' For next week. I want you all to read your textbook chaper on werewolves. Write down at least one question to bring to class. And prepare for an open discussion about them. For further reading I suggest you come by my office or visit the library, the school has some excellent books discussing werewolves.'' When the time was up he dismissed the class and went sitting back at his desk.

Please review the DADA Class Policy for first through fourth years.

Roleplay the lesson and write down an question about werewolves for extra credit. The first student to give a somewhat accurate answer to Professor Waldgrave’s question will also receive extra credit!

Rosalind didn't really know why she'd chosen defence against the dark arts. In all honesty, she was tempted to just do herbology and potions and leave it at that. But her dad had intervened and now she was taking this class too. Rosalind took a seat, sitting near the middle, so she wasn't too close or too far away, and waited for the lesson to begin. The professor spoke and Rosalind didn't really know why they were studying magical creatures. Maybe they were evil or something? She didn't raise her hand and let out an 'ohh' when someone answered the question. That made sense. It all sounded a bit intimidating but Rosalind was sure the professor would help keep the class safe. The topic switched to werewolves. Rosalind didn't really know anything about werewolves except what she considered the obvious, so she wrote down a question. She wasn't sure if she would go out of her way to go research werewolves but maybe it would be a good idea. Rosalind decided, once class was over, she would go and see what books were avaliable at the library.

Do werewolves feel human emotions when they're in werewolf form, or do they feel emotions like a wolf? Or would we have to ask an actual werewolf this question to know the answer? I don't mind if you don't know, I was just curious.

Cyrus had enjoyed his break. He had been creative and had written quite a bit. He'd spent a lot of time writing poems about Kairi and it seemed to have helped him get over the crush he had on her, though he still thought the Hufflepuff was very pretty. He had enjoyed his time with Magne too and was glad the two of them were friends. He hadn't left his first year at Hogwarts with many friends (or any), so this was definitely an improvement. He had quite a few now, which made him happy.

The Ravenclaw made his way to first floor and headed into the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, taking a seat near the front but not entirely at the front. He listened as Professor Waldgrave started the lesson, telling them they would be cofusing on creatures in this class this year. Cyrus didn't take Care of Magical Creatures, so he didn't really mind that. He raised his hand as the professor asked a question. "To talk about magical creatures from a defense point of view, rather than taking care of them?" He answered. He noted down the homework then left the classroom once they were dismissed.

Werewolf question:
Do you always become a werewolf if one attacks you or does it have to bite you particularly hard?

Magne was so ready for the new year, he had had a good time with his family, not really having to worry about classes or school. He had enjoyed being out on the water and enjoyed just being able to spend time with his parents. He had spoken english the whole time, even as much as he wanted to not, knowing it was better for him when he did. He was hoping to not lose it in the same way he had in other breaks. He thought it had worked well. He was getting himself together, grabbing books and notes and then headed out of the dorm and to his first class of the day, ready and raring to get started.

Magne walked into the defence against the dark arts classroom and took his usual spot in the room. His gaze moved towards the professor at the front of the room as the man got started. Magne was taking care of magical creatures, but he was also just as eager to be able to learn about them in this class over the other. The teen took his quill and wrote down a little to the answer given about why they did it this was and then a little about what the professor said. He took down that they were to read about werewolves and then the lesson was wrapped up and he packed up his things and left the room.

Sunday wasn't really sure what she wanted to do with her life at the moment. There were a lot of ways she could go, but short of trying to be the Minister, how could she get out of Monday's shadow? But would that even make her happy? She was a bit torn on it, and had decided instead to just focus on her interests this year and see where they might take her.

Determined to throw herself into things, no matter what her wand thought, Sunday braided her long hair, straightened out her uniform, and packed her bag with precision before walking to class. She was not excited for Defense- but she'd be damned if this subject got the better of her.

She settled in, pulling out her parcment and ink, determined to take proper notes. Maybe a better understanding of the subject matter would help. The subject of creatures made her curious- were they going to cast spells? She considered this, feeling a little less apprehensive about the class.

She read over the chapter given, doublechecked her notes, and scribbled out a question during the class. Feeling pleased with the first lesson, at least, Sunday carefully put her things away before heading back out again.

Alana didn’t like that Professor Waldgrave told them they would be learning about dark creatures, the potential for overlap with care of magical creatures was quite annoying, why was she taking two classes if they would be learning the same thing in both? She was annoyed for the rest of the lesson so even if Professor Waldgrave told them exactly what creatures they’d be learning in both subjects, it wouldn’t improve her mood. It had set in.

“You must be wondering why we would be studying creatures in this class?” Yes. Yes she was. Alana hoped whatever came out of his mouth was a satisfactory answer, but she had long ago given up on professors meeting her expectations, still she smiled and nodded along as the professor spoke not give away her internal monologue. Learning to defend yourself against dangerous animals did sound interesting, but she still maintained it should have been included in care of magical creatures. Maybe some of the creatures they would learn about would prove her wrong, but nothing Professor Waldgrave had said so far had done so. She made a quick note of a question before packing up then made her way out of the classroom.

Sofi was so glad to be back at Hogwarts, back with her friends and sleeping in a warm comfortable bed again. She wasn't sure if it was normal or not to feel more at home at Hogwarts than at actual home, but she certainly did. She entered the defence against the dark arts classroom and took her seat. She listened to Professor Waldgrave and took some notes. It seemed they had an interesting semester of study ahead of them learning about dark creatures. At the end of the lesson, Sofi packed up her things and left the classroom.

If a werewolf has a baby, is the child also born a werewolf?
