Things Could Be Better

Kate woke up and winced when she felt her head start to thump like she had a personal hammer hammering her skull.She got out of bed and had to lean onto the the side of the wall when a wave of dizziness washed over her.She closed her eyes and controlled her breathing waiting for it to pass.When it had she quickly looked over at Tara and was glad when she saw she was still asleep.Kate sighed and then straightened, Only a few more days she said to herself and that was what had been keeping her going for the past few weeks as she had steadily got worse.People were starting to notice especially teachers,but she had managed she complete her exams and the Yule Ball was tomorrow and then she could go home and get all this fixed,she was sick and tired of being week and not being able to enjoy the Christmas festivities.Kate stopped the tears that were in the corner of her eyes.There was no point losing control,as it wouldn't help anything.Kate took a breath and ignored the pain in her head,well tried it wasn't easy.luckily she didn't have a fever and she had slept soundly last night which was rare,she rarely got any sleep these days.She walked into the bathroom and looked at her reflextion.She groaned,she didn't look her best and she had the Yule Ball with Stefan tomorrow and she wanted to look her best and also feel her best because she wanted it to be special.She quickly washed her face and brushed her teeth.She then did what she could to cover hertired looking face.she then quietly went back into her dorm and put on her clothes.When she was ready she put her wand into her pocket and set off for the Great hall.

When she arrived in the hall,it was still quite early so there wasn't much people in the Hall,she sat down on the Hufflepuff table and smiled at a few of her classmates.She then sat down and looked at the food.she suddenly didn't feel very hungry but she knew she had to eat.So she slowly took an apple from the basket and began eating.When she was finished it she took a very small amount of cereal.When she was finished she sat there for a few minutes,leaving her stomach settle.She looked around and noticed the hall filling up.she didn't want to be in a crowded space so she stood up and walked to the courtyard.This was one of her favorite places to go and she smiled when she felt the sun on her pale arms.She breathed in the fresh air and walked ,no where in mind.After a while she began to get tired and she sighed looking for a bench.When she did she sat down and just started into the space ahead of her,nothing going through her head except the dull thumping.

Jake got out of bed, another sleepless night plaguing his mind, thoughts that wouldn't go away still imprinted in his brain. All of them not making sense even to himself. It was amusing how the people who thought they knew him said he was a mystery, as he didn't even know what was going on with him. But something he did know was that he surrounded himself with people who were incredibly self-centred, all except Sara, or so he thought. He had grown to have a crush on the Ravenclaw girl, and now they were going to the Yule Ball together. Jake had no idea of how to act, or what to say on a date. He knew that he was going to have to take advice from a few movies, that was if he remembered what movies he had watched. He knew he had to break the news about his crush on Sara to Kate sooner or later. What kind of friend would he be if he did not tell Kate? He would probably still be her friend. He distinctly remembered Kate telling him that her and Sara had grown apart, and he hoped they were on good terms, enough that Kate wouldn't mind if he and Sara became an item. Who was he kidding? A girl as pretty and kind as Sara wouldn't want to date a loser like him.

Jake left the Slytherin common room on that negative note, and walked straight past the great hall, with no intention of eating breakfast that day. He was going to go and find a place to think, not that he needed it, but he was going to find a place to clear his head in one way or another. Before he contemplated how far he had walked, Jake found himself in the courtyard. His eyes quickly fell on Kate, as there was not much else to focus on, and he walked over to her with a forced smile crossing his features. They had met for the first time, early morning in the courtyard, and that day seemed brighter, half because the sun was actually out and half because Kate was there. She looked like she didn't want to be talked to, but Jake didn't care. "Good morning!" Jake enthusiastically said, before sitting next to her. She looked like she needed some cheering up, and Jake wanted to help anyway he could.

Kate was sitting on the bench and just staring in to space.Nothing was going through her mind really,except all negative thoughts.Her head ache wasn't improving only getting worse and there were times that she just wished someone could tell her its okay,that you're going to be okay.But realistically Kate didn't know,she had no idea how sick she was,was it life threatening,would it be there for ever or wold it just pass.do I have to stay in hospital,is it serious? All these questions and no answers.It was frustrating and Kate ended up punching the bench which was sore.She was rubbing her hand and muttering curses at the bench when she heard a enthusiastic voice cut through her thoughts.She looked up and smiled when she saw Jake. "Hey"She said moving over so there was some room. "How are you?"She asked closing her eyes briefly when a very loud thump went through her head.she remembered this was the first place they had met.Things had been very different back then.They had laughed a lot and had a good time but now Kate wasn't in any mood for laughing and she had gone through so much since.She would try her best to be all smiley and happy when Jake was here,because there was no point in bringing him down with all her negativity
