BUT THE SOUND WAS TRAPPED DEEP IN ME<i></i>

the cold winter air didn't prevent sam from returning to his old habits as he walked the
long beach, as always, his bare feet dared face the raw, cold grains of sand. apart from
the stinging pain, he continued to enjoy the sensation of sand between his toes. it was
not like he was given this chance back in london or when he attended school, he made
the most of it when he could and wheter that meant his feet tinted a blue colour and lost
all feeling, so be it. what differentiated this pleasurable stroll from all of the others was
that he was sharing it with indi. not only had she accompanied his saunter up the beach
but she rather briefly came to his house and even more briefly met his uncle. it was the
fault of his uncle for their brief encounter but he supposedly had a client to attend to
which was a regular occurance obstructing sam from just simply hanging out with his uncle.
ava on the otherhand had little to no interest in meeting one of his friends and so stalked
off for one of her many unnesscary shopping trips. which suited the hufflepuff swimmingly.

"sorry about colin. he shouldn't be as pushed for time later..." came the soft apologetic
voice of sam. his voice wasn't hushed by the flooding waves but simply blended in with the
soothing rhythm of them as they flowed freely onto the beach. he was quite looking
forward to colin finally meeting indianna, he would be the first of anyone he knew to meet
her. hell, riley still didn't even know about indianna let alone meet her. sam's oceanic blue
eyes, met indianna's as he spoke to her before he pulled his gaze forward, to the long
stretch of sand in front of them. his fingers continued to keep a loose grip on his converse
while his other hand stuck into the pocket of his shorts fiddling subconsciously with the
keys to the empty house. "so! have you been on this beach before or is this a first?" he
asked with an enthused curiousity bouncing in his voice, his usual smile lighting up his face.
the boy could not help but notice the lack of awkwardness that failed to mist the air
around them. quite unlike the last time they decided to meet up, he was pretty certain he
could have cut that tension with a knife. but why now, was there a sudden change in
atmosphere?

perhaps he was just beginning to get a little more comfortable around her? or maybe it
was his new skill at maintaining his jarring thoughts? unlikely. they were still present as
ever, still floating around his head every time he simply looked at the girl. but he couldn't
find the missing piece. what was it that sucessfully eased off any uncomfortable moments
between the two friends? why was it then and there, on the romantic setting of a beach,
that he began to feel even more close to the girl he had met only a few months ago. but it
failed to feel like a 'few months' and sam had a hard time believing that it was only a 'few
months' ago when he had awkwardly tipped indianna as she played her guitar on the curb
of the footpath. an onlooking stranger could have presumed that the pair were friends for
years, perhaps even a couple? like finding the last jagged jigsaw piece, things just fitted
perfectly into place. however, now, in this instance, the last jigsaw piece was taken
preventing things from falling perfectly into place. riley was his girlfriend and his love for
her disabled him from enquiring about the fluttering feeling in the pit of his stomach as
indianna fell on top of him. he wanted more than anything to catch her fall, but he knew it
was close to impossible even if he dared attempt to.

indianna grace would be the first to admit it; accepting sam’s invitation to spend a part of the winter
holidays with him had her doubting herself all over the place. there had been, of course, the usual
hoard of butterflies but they had only made her nervous, reminded her of a feeling she shouldn’t be
feeling. not towards sam and not towards anybody. she had made all of these promises to herself,
and wondered if it was really that hard to keep them. but evidently she had overlooked the sudden
entrance of sam prince into her life. he was an out of this world kind of extraordinary, someone who
made her feel like the most amazingly blissful girl in the entire world and he didn’t even know it. nor
did indi want him to know either. love, as she had learnt from the experiences of her mother, was a
troubled road. even if it was with a person as wonderful as sam, surely there would be those bumps
along the way. surely she’d be so battered and bruised by the end of it, to the point where indianna
would begin to wonder if it was all worth it in the first place. her parents had loved each other once
hadn’t they? the breath-snatching fear that she could end up like her poor mother had indi rooted to
the spot with terror and she refused to budge an inch for anybody. but that was not to say that sam
wouldn’t be able to somehow meticulously work his way around her. he had already done so in fact.

that was how she was here now. because just the memory of his dazzling smile and the happiness
he had the ability to douse her in whenever they were with one another, had been enough to coax
an eager acceptance out of her. he was, after all, still her very good friend and she’d not let these
silly butterflies stand in the way of their friendship. and thank goodness the awkwardness their last
meeting had not been strung out on to this one, it perked indianna with a deeper sense of comfort,
as if she could be any more comfortable in his presence. and while their gazes still often held each
other’s for a second longer than acceptable, while those frightful butterflies still flicked about inside
her stomach whenever that happened, she finally found herself able to breathe in his presence. all
the pair had encountered so far had had indianna at a peak of ecstasy, everything from the hasty
meeting with his uncle to now on their stroll along the stretching shore. it was so easy, almost too
easy, as if it were meant to be all along. the ocean breeze lashed icily against her bare legs, though
indi had barely noticed the fact that they were now ridden with goosebumps as the hem of her short
white dress billowed loosely against her olive skin. she was too busy losing herself in those eyes of
his, much bluer than the ocean that whispered by their side, or falling a silent victim to the harmonic
rolling of his voice and the words she was soon faced with about his uncle. she gave a shrug of her
smartly rugged up shoulders and smile that pretty smile of hers, a subconscious gleam in her eyes
as they caught sam’s once more. he was so careful, so caring. his sweet demeanour only left room
for indi to explore the prospect of venturing beyond the line of friendship and caused her to wonder
about the loving kind of boyfriend he’d be. catching herself from this dangerous waters, indi passed
an inward frown but with a outward smile on her lips, replied with a lightly dismissive tone, “it’s fine.”

the direction of his next question had indianna brimming with an uncontrollable excitement, of some
thing she was so eager to share with him, for he would be the only one to date. bouncing ahead of
him and turning so that they were front to front and her footsteps were retreating quickly backwards
indi gave a shake of her head. “no, this is a first. but...” it was torture she knew to leave a word like
that hanging amidst the pair, especially with such a secretive smile wicked on her lips. “i have news
sam”
and with that she cocked both eyebrows up at him, resisting all temptations to throw her arms
tight around him then and there. because if it weren’t for him, this would have been the worst news.
it didn't even matter that she'd be with her grandparents. “mum wants to move in with mémère and
grandfather... so i might be going to hogwarts new zealand in the new semester!”
the grin upon her
lips was so wide that an ache grew in her cheeks, for seeing her friend more often than not would
be a dream come true. the excitement of it all overwhelmed indianna within the passing second and
she could not help but to throw her arms up around his shoulders and hug sam close. to be rid of
the beauxbatons girls would be a sigh of relief for the sixteen year old and while she was twinged
with sadness at the departure she would possibly be experiencing from mia and falcon, indianna’s
grandfather had promised her flights to see her friends. but with their bodies so close and feeling so
right in the excited embrace, all indi could think about was the wonderful boy she held close to her.
“think i’m hufflepuff material?” she joked quietly with her friend, the anticipation swelling inside her

BUT THE SOUND WAS TRAPPED DEEP IN ME

even after his gaze moved from indianna's pretty face, her smile still lingered vividly in his
mind. it swallowed every other thought in his head until it was all that the boy could think
about. her sweet, sweet, smile. but sam took up the habit of obdiently doing what his head
instructed, not what his heart desired and pined for, so he did not dare take a second
glance at the smiling face of indianna lee. if it had been the other way around and sam had
admitted his heart to make his decisions, he was positive, things wouldn't be as there were
now. he knew he would have done something so stupidly inappropriate that would result in
him losing pretty much everything. it was what he continued to remind himself of as he
questioned his decision to let his head take the lead. so, as he walked alongside his friend
his gaze was directed in front of them to the empty stretch of sand before them, peeking
at the soothing pattern of the swash of the waves climbing up the shore only to roll right
back down again. his focus on the slow tide was not held as his bare foot stepped onto an
exceptionally sharp shell, or the remains of one. trying his best not wince from the stinging
pain he simply shook his left foot in a subtle attempt to be rid of the sandy shell shards.
that was definitely the downside of walking the beach barefooted, in his opinion.

so as he recovered from the pierce of the shattered shell, he looked up only to see
indianna in front of him, glowing with excitement, causing him to fall victim to her beauty
and he found himself drowning in it. "i have news sam" were the four small words that
instantly withdrew him from his boyish gawking and sent his stomach to do a flip - or two.
if it wasn't for her secretive smile and her thrilled demeanour sam would have instantly
prepared himself to face a series of worried thoughts. this time however, he actually
wanted to hear the news that she was bursting to tell, it seemed impossible not to reflect
the excitement that she was showing. indianna didn't keep him waiting in suspensation as
she quickly announced that she was transferring to Hogwarts New Zealand. it only truly hit
him as she happily threw her arms around him into a hug, naturally, sam brought his arms
around her small frame. his movements were slow as his head tried to filter through what
had just happened allowing his heart to control his next few movements. his embrace
tightened around her as a direct hit of joy overwhelmed him, allowing him to lift her up
and spin her around. a merry chuckle tumbled from his lips as he put her down once again
while his hands held her waist, keeping there bodies close. "hufflepuff material?" he
repeated, his face failing to hide any ounce of happiness that exploded within him. the idea
of being able to see indianna in his school, every day, never crossed his mind because of
the impossibility of it ever happening. "perhaps...?" his face morphed into an exaggerated
thinking face, his excited blue eyes wandered off into the distance only to return back to
indianna with playful gleam that took over.

as her news began to settle, sam's head regaining any control over his movements was out
of the question. his heart raced ecstatically in his chest and he wasn't quite sure wheter it
was because of indianna's news or because of indianna's body being so very close to his
own. however there was a sense of ease the filled the small gap between the two
teenagers causing sam to raise his hand and tuck a strand of hair that had fallen over
indianna's eyes amongst the excitement, behind her ears. his hand lingered on her face as
he now stared without an obstruction, into her multi-hued irises. the same ones that
caught his attention the first time he saw her, the ones that continued to loiter in his mind
after each of their meetings. the same ones that now, he couldn't turn away from. his
heart thumped that bit harder in his chest as he began to realise what he was doing.
things were becoming way out of their 'friendly' boundaries. it was as if his heart had burst
through the barrier that was maintaining any of the cooped up feelings that he had for
indianna, releasing them around his body. while all this activity raged throughout him, the
pair of teenagers couldn't have been more still. his gaze was still trapped in her stare, his
hand still slightly cupped the side of her face. and with knowing all this, sam didn't dare
move, other than a simple blink of his eyelids, or a small silent breath, taking in her smell,
her beauty and the obvious electricity that bounced between the two friends.

for a few most fearful seconds indianna lurched into a state of panic inside her head. her arms were
around her friend, wound up so tight that she was sure if he wasn’t as strong as he was, she would
have squeezed the life out of him. inside her head, things were turning awkward. fast. and for a few
fearful seconds, her ceased heart its reckless drumming inside her chest. but then, to indi’s utmost
disbelief, sam was hugging her and with an equal if not greater show of enthusiasm. the girl’s heart
had stopped for an entirely different reason now. a friend hugging a friend was not unusual in any
manner but this felt so right, more right than it had ever felt before. she could have stayed there in
his arms, so warm, so secure, forever. the thought of having a friend in sam forever roused a smile
secretly upon her lush lips, one that she hid in the soft cotton of his shirt as the two teenagers held
each other closer. well, now could be the start of forever, couldn’t it? who was to say that they’d go
their separate ways after they graduated, hopefully together. who was to say that it was unrealistic
or improbable or foolish. because there was something here between them, indianna could feel it
welling and it felt like a forever kind of thing.

indianna's smile widened beyond measure as sam lifted her upwards as if she were no more heavy
than a feather. and then if that weren’t enough, spun her around in playful circle until he had her in
girlish giggles. she remembered her father doing the same once, before things had caved in on top
of their family, before the booze and the bruises, back when she had loved him still. that very same
man, her father, had gone and spoilt any of her confidence in boys. the ease, gone. the trust, gone.
the instinctive gravitation towards them, gone. all until sam prince. and here she was now in the air
and in his arms, trusting him to keep her from tumbling onto the ground. who would have thought?
her squeaks of joy soon quietened and lulled to a soft and humming laughter as indi felt her feet hit
the icy grains of sand. indianna exhaled a sigh, just waiting for the moment his broad hands would
fall from her waist and leave the perfect curve there feeling rather empty and cold. but the moment
never came. instead she watched on as sam’s expression made a mockery of musing whilst it was
really his touch that she was paying her undivided attention to. because when it sent electricity and
wonderful shivers coursing through her tiny body, how could she not? she gave a laughing smile, a
snicker that greeted her friend’s humour appreciatively as his gaze wandered back to her. but in an
instant it was gone, lost to the moment that succeeded it.

oxygen, words, any remnants of sanity escaped the sixteen year old as she felt herself drowning in
the cool blue ocean of sam’s eyes. she could lose herself forever and a day in those eyes of his, so
easily that it frightened indianna grace. but she dared not move, breath or even blink as the silence
befell them. what she wouldn’t give to know what he was thinking as he raised his hand to sweetly
tuck a stray curl behind her ears or to know if he could see the shivers he ran through her when he
did so. right here and right now they were swimming through unchartered waters, right in between
what she knew and loved to be their friendship and a leap of faith from all she had ever believed in.
indi’s dainty fingers curled at the nape of sam’s neck, brushing the smooth skin she found there as
the other hand trailed down to the muscled planes of his chest where she could feel his heart race
against her palm. though indianna wouldn’t have been at all surprised if hers was faster. if it weren’t
obvious enough by his hand graced against her cheek, or the likes of her own glued fast to him that
they would soon no longer possess the ‘just friends’ label she had been struggling to grasp a hold
of since their time together flying, then it was clear in the gaze she gave him. kiss me, kiss me, kiss
me,
she begged of her friend silently. indianna could think of no other boy she would rather share
her first kiss with more. so with nervous excitement white hot in her belly indi allowed her eyelids to
flutter closed and ever so gently leant in to her friend, threading her fingers through his shaggy hair
as she did so. she could feel their breath collide against one another’s now, she could feel the heat
that radiated from his skin and almost hear their hearts pumping in unison. their chests brushed, her
hand fisted nervously in his shirt. but indianna didn’t move further, just waited and wished for sam.

riley arose early to the cold new zealand winter for no reason other than a vow to her
self that she would make the most of her holidays this time around. stretching her arms
the blonde haired girl got out of her bed with a spring in her step and a dumb grin on
her face that she was almost certain nobody could take away from her. the sixteen year
old pulled on a bathing suit, the material sliding over the curves that she had somehow
looked until now before throwing a pair of torn shorts and a hoodie on to help keep the
harsh wind at bay. "i'll be back later mum" riley called down the hallway of the modest
apartment she liked to call home. letting her brown hues dart over a crumpled photo
of her boyfriend she smiled. so carefully placed on her dresser the photo was severely
outnumbered by various nick nacks and treasures, though to the young woman it was
always the first thing she noticed. with a skip in her step she scaled the stairs, skipping
every second step as she went. there was no question where she was going to end up
it would be the beach as always, and with her guitar across her back she knew it was
going to be a good day. there were very few figures scattered along the new zealand
beach as riley arrived, perfect she thought to herself as she settled herselfunder the
branches of the very same tree where she had the ever awkward meeting with Falcon
just last holidays. watching as a dog ran past and crashed into the icy blue sea, riley
smiled to herself. she had found peace and quiet.

as the wind blew her dirty blonde hair the sixteen year old turned her head to look out
across the near deserted beach, out of sheer luck she spotted a young couple far out in
the distance embracing one another as the waves crashed in the background. the girl's
thoughts instantly travelled to her boyfriend, she had missed seeing him last break and
now it looked as though they would be apart for yet another holiday, sam was training
hard for the internship and though her heart ached for him, she wanted him to do the
very best that she could, and if that meant them being apart, then that was what she
had to do. the concept of thinking of her own future frightened riley beyond belief, she
had no clue what it held for her, but she knew one thing, she hoped it would hold sam
prince
. taking a stick she began to draw a familiar shape in the soft, damp sand , to
anyone else it would look like just another heart, drawn by just another teenager, but
to her it meant so much more. next time she saw him she was going to say it, her lips
would be sewn shut no more. those three words she had always wanted to utter to her
boyfriend, but had always been too afraid to. i love you was all it would take for him
to be in her open arms once more.

as she looked a little more closely at the couple, it seemed that they were getting closer
still. straining her eyes she felt a pang in her heart, that feeling that only he was able to
produce, that feeling of love. that shaggy dull blonde hair, those shoes, those jeans. she
knew that boy. her boy was at that very beach, sam he was there, but he wasn't with her.
leaping from her soft bed of sand, her bare feet threw soft sand across the heart as her
flickered brightly. her feet seemed to carry her right across the beach, not even feeling
the sharp edges of stones cutting her as her breathing became hurried and choked. she
was doing something she never thought she had the courage for and as she reached the
couple her eyes darted back and forth, searching for an answer as to why their lips were
touching, those same lips that she had touched many timed before. the wind was loud
as she screamed the first thing that came to mind "what the f*ck is going on here?!" her
lungs inhaled the cold air and she began to choke. the wind threw her loose hair in all
directions, but she didn't care. to her this was the end of the world. no teenage girl ever
truly recovered from the heartbreak of seeing their boyfriend kissing somebody else,
and riley knew that she was going to be no exception.

the perfect words never crossed my mind, cause there was nothing in there but you.
*I FELT EVERY OUNCE OF ME SCREAMING OUT
1ow36u.png

BUT THE SOUND WAS TRAPPED DEEP IN ME

it all was very out of character for sam prince, all this doing without thinking he didn't even
allow himself to think of the regret and guilt he would feel after this moment passed. but
the thought of regret, didn't once enter his head, right now the only thing that was on his
mind was the girl who stood in front of him at the height of her natural beauty. he could
not bring himself to stop his hand from moving off her waist to tamely touch her soft olive
skin nor could he slow down the increasing speed of his heart with every passing second.
the certain ambiance in the small space between the two bodies was filled with a
tenderness, and the sexual tension could not be dismissed. his soft blue eyes strayed not
from hers even as he felt her touch at the nape of his neck, her careful fingers resting
there while her other hand smoothly took place over his heart and wheter she realised it or
not, elevated in speed. there was no subtley to the change of look in her inviting eyes, it
was the look that was recognised, in every continent, country, city and town in the world.
it couldn't be easily mistaken with any other look and even sam, who failed (and still fails)
at reading girl's, he knew what was coming next.

a kiss. it didn't take a second thought to know that this was bad. and so sam's head got
to work, fighting for some sort of say in, what was about to happen. indianna's eyelids
closed over her eyes, breaking his gaze, his own eyes glanced down at her lips. there was
a side of him that wanted to lean that inch further, to meet indianna half way but the
other part of him was not so eager. the thought of riley swung into his mind like a bellowing
gust of wind, warning him of the consequences if he kissed indianna. her lips continued to
tempt him however and it wasn't until he heard the piercing yell of riley alexandra that he
made his decision. oh. sh*t. was the only thought that entered his mind as reality hit him,
like a slap across the face. a mighty hard slap at that. almost instantly sam's arms feel to
his sides in attempts to make things better, when really it only highlighted the fact that
his arms were around indianna, a complete stranger to riley. he tried not to look at indianna
or at riley as he furiously searched for the thought of something to say that would fix all of
this. right there and then, he wanted to dig himself a fairly large hole in the sand and get
into it. at that moment he wanted to be anywhere else but where he was. even being back
sitting his herbology owl exam seemed more comfortable than this. "riley." sam stated
calmly, even though on the inside he felt like running. "..it's not what it looked like." the
words just fell from his lips fluently something he would have been thankful for if his words
weren't a load of crap. because it was exactly what it looked like! but his girlfriend didn't
have to know that.

his thoughts strayed back to indianna as he looked into riley's brown eyes that seemed
so very foreign to him on the cold beach. whatever was said now through the tension filled
air was going to leave one or, both of the girls hurt. and he was all the cause of it. was it
not him who invited indianna to his house? was it not his idea to walk along the beach with
her? unfortunately, the answer to those questions was a yes. it was also he who
affectionately cupped her face leading to the almost-kiss. every single thing that he did
was all just building up to this. sam could barely look at riley now, but he knew looking
away wouldn't help nor would running away. colin had always taught him never to run from
things but to face them. here was the perfect situation to do the mature, adult thing. but
why it was so hard was beyond him. the sixteen year old stood his ground though, his
hands out in front of him in attempts to promote that nothing had happened, even though
many things did happen, thankfully a kiss wasn't one of them. and technically he
didn't cheat on riley, so everything would turn out okay...right?

EVER THOUGHT JUST MAYBE YOU BELONG WITH ME?
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
indianna couldn’t see sam, she could not fix her gaze upon his wonderful blue eyes nor let it fall in
to a well of desire as it drafted over his perfect lips. but she could envision it all, every last piece of
him and then so much more. it was typical behaviour from a sixteen year old girl to be thinking like
this; the butterflies, the racing heart, the shy smiles and the heat in her cheeks. but in no way was it
typical from indianna. yet here the shy girl was mere inches from her friend’s kiss, nervous yes but
in dire pining for it all the same. she shivered in a nervous breath, felt sam edge that little bit closer
to kissing her and allowed her heart to explode in her chest, smiling softly at the feel of sam’s doing
much the same. there was nothing in the world she yearned for more in this moment or in any other
she could ever recall living, than sam prince. and he was close now, so close that she could nearly
taste him, almost have him. it was coming, it was there, it was ascertained. until the moment came
shattering to delicate shards around the entwined teenagers at the screech of another behind them.

it was initially the sheer decibel of the exclamation that tore indianna grace away from the one she
so desired. starting and jerking her head instinctively towards the sound, the girl cursed herself for
being so flighty because the peace of just being in sam’s arms seemed unattainable now. though it
wasn’t until he dropped his arms, his strong and securing arms, from around her body that indianna
began to feel the raw hurt that would very soon wrench her to pieces. with her waist cold now, and
her body feeling particularly vulnerable in the absence of sam’s against it, the doe-eyed beauty let
her gaze wander timidly over the girl with the fair hair and poison in her eyes. at first she hoped, no
prayed that this was just his cousin who, for whatever reason, passionately did not approve of his
choice in girls he kissed. she had been out, had she not? was it possible that she had returned? by
what indi gathered, sam wasn’t exactly the biggest fan of his cousin nor she him. but an inkling told
her that a cousin would be indifferent, not out of their mind with anger. gulping down hard the knot
that tightened in her throat indianna gazed with glassy eyes up at her friend. a plead seemingly, but
not the kind she had engaged him in only brief moments ago. this time around, she pleaded for the
truth, wishing with all her tiny might and power that this wasn’t a girlfriend. but by the words that fell
particularly easily from his lips, indianna could only assume that yes, this indeed was his girlfriend.

the girl choked back a sob on her friend’s words. “it’s not what it looked like” they nagged away so
deep into her, stimulating a headache of questions and tiresome answers she presumed would be
spoken back. indianna wanted so much to be angry with sam, to cast away this sudden knife to the
gut of emotions for a boiling infuriation. she didn’t want to care in the way she did now. but instead
she skittered away behind his back so he wouldn’t be able to spy the single tear that rolled just as
liquid diamond might down her rosy cheek. a tear for him of course. she had known about this kind
of risk, her parents had taught her all about it without meaning to and for years on end indianna had
meticulously avoided its knifing grasp. but then along came sam and the thought that maybe, just
maybe
he might be different. evidently even the most fantastic of men were still capable of breaking
hearts. indi’s multi-hued irises glistened with the threat of new tears as she peered fearfully over at
riley, sam’s girlfriend and wondered, not for the first time, why on earth he bothered spending time
with her when he had this explicitly beautiful girl right there in front of him. she seemed absolutely
everything that indianna was not. brave, blonde, beautiful. how could she ever compare to such an
exquisite girl? she didn’t, as simple as that. another tear tumbled down her cheek just as she willed
it not to but she had to be brave now, for sam at least. “sam... sam didn’t do anything.” bowing her
head in shame, indi hoped that riley would see the truth in her words; that the instigation of the near
kiss had been her move, not his. if she could convince the blonde of that much then she’d not ever
bother them again, not even sam. she wouldn’t be able to bring herself to do it after today’s events.

riley stood in the wind, hardly able to believe that all of this was happening, let alone that it was all
happening to her. her cheeks flushed pink as the harsh wind battered them, her hair dancing wildly
in the wind as it did so. to her, a young sixteen year old, there was nothing that could have crushed
her more than to be betrayed by the one person she truly trusted. "it's not what it looked like" those
words hurt more than they helped. and they were only made worse as the girl at the centre of this
betrayal took sam's side without hesitating. looking at the pair standing in front of her, riley felt as
though she was the one in the wrong, as if she had done something to push him away, when had
He even met this girl? "shut up! just shut up!" she cried, tears pricked at her cheeks and the young
woman brushed them harshly away with her sleeve. "I loved you" she whispered through her tears.
it was the first time she said it to her boyfriend and it would probably be the last. looking from the
doe eyed girl and back to sam she wondered who was going to explain, if anyone. she wanted the
answers to all of her questions. more importantly, when did sam stop loving her? She had tried to
be a good girlfriend, had she failed? though blaming herself wasn't going to make any of it better.
and the truth was that deep down inside she knew that he still loved her, but she didn't quite want
to believe it right now. all riley wanted to was to leave, to get out of that place, but her feet seemed
glued to the ground, perhaps it was the sheer shock of his betrayal that made riley want to stay.

not knowing what to do she simply stood there. how cruel that boy was for making her fall for him.
she had fallen head first, and no doubt she had fallen exactly the same way that this imposter had.
his charm, that shaggy brown hair, those lips. they were all the same things that this beautiful girl
would have fallen for. riley would never get over him, her first love. in sheer anger and rage the
sixteen year old couldn't seem to be able to control herself. her feet carried her body swiftly across
the sand, her brown eyes filled with hate and her heart full of betrayal. in one swift move her palm
connected with sam's cheek and from then on she knew it was all over. it was what any girl would
have done, though as she saw her boyfriend's cheek turn a startling shade of pink she instantly
wished she hadn't laid a hand on him, the same way she wished he had never laid his hands on
another girl. but they had all done foolish things and there was no magic time machine she could
jump in, if there was the blonde haired girl would have warned herself, and perhaps she could
have saved herself from heartbreak. her head began to pound and riley found her hand, still red
from the impact with sam's cheek, reaching up in an attempt to numb the pain and anguish she
was feeling, there was no way this could be happening. it must have been some cruel nightmare.

she would have given anything to be back in the abandoned classroom, where she had made a
fool of herself, but forgotten it all in the instant that her lips first touched sam's. no wonder he had
avoided her questions and decided not to spend the winter vacation with her. he had somebody
else now. the hufflepuff wondered how long this had been going on, when had he met this girl?
and why was she worth more than she could ever be? Sure sam hadn't kissed her, but he had
wanted to, riley was no fool and the way he looked at her was no joke. "i don't care if you kissed
her or not, you wanted to"
she said, her voice growing louder with each choked word she hurled
across the once peaceful and quiet beach, the fact that the intention was there hurt more than
kissing ever could. she still loved sam, and wanted to believe that there was some sort of logical
explanation to all of this, perhaps they could work this out, as hard as it sounded, she would try.

the perfect words never crossed my mind, cause there was nothing in there but you.
*I FELT EVERY OUNCE OF ME SCREAMING OUT
1ow36u.png

BUT THE SOUND WAS TRAPPED DEEP IN ME

how could he do this? who had he become all of a sudden? he never wanted to be that
person he didn't even think he was that person until riley, his girlfriend stood in front of
him, blinded with anger and hurt. he practically betrayed her. oh, who was he kidding he
did betray her. everything that he thought he stood for, had crumbled and collapsed,
everything that he thought he was, was a lie. and now he hurt two of the most important
people in his life, deeply. and as indianna walked away from him he felt that sickening
feeling in his stomach rise up into his chest, spreading the sensation of guilt around his
entire body until it surfaced onto his dumbstruck face. it caused him to look away from
riley, not being able to bear the sheer pain of her tears, all caused by him. "i loved you"
came the soft whisper from riley's lips through her heartbroken tears. everything that sam
had built up over the last year of his life, everything that was important to him was in ruin
and he was the destroyer of it all. through a frown sam glanced up at riley and held back
the rush of emotions he felt at that exact second. looking at her, he still felt that love for
her, but he was confused and frustrated and guilt ridden and it was all happening at once
for the sixteen year old boy. it was an overload of emotions and all sam could do was man
up and take it. the fact that there was an 'ed' on the end of riley's 'love' tore a hole
right through his heart. it simply occured to him then, that it was more or less over
between them. how could they possibly recover from this?

"sam... sam didn't do anything." came the quiet words that fell uncomfortably from
indianna's lips. his eyes lifted up slowly from the sand and met indianna's, seeing her cry
was something that he never wanted to witness, never mind being the one who caused
her to cry. it all seemed surreal but as much as he wanted to believe this was some
nightmare, he couldn't deny the reality of things. and the reality was, he had to say
something. right now. "indi.." her name was choked out of his dry mouth, his voice
was scathy and tired. but there was also a tinge of pleading in his voice, as if warning her
to stay out of it. he turned back to look at riley only to feel a sharp sting of pain that
expanded over his whole cheek until a numbing throb began to beat under his skin.
however, there was not a change of emotion on sam's face, he barely even flinched. he
deserved that slap and plenty others. so as his numbed cheek continued to throb in pain,
he simply clenched his jaw before attempting to speak once more. "but shouldn't you take
into account that i didn't.."
he said slowly, but quickly put his hand up stopping her
from reacting, both verbally and physically because as much as he deserved that slap, he
didn't think he could take two in a row with that same sense of strength. "and i know what
i did was wrong and we can talk about it... but riley, i wouldn't do that to you.... you know
that?"
his eyebrows were furrowed, his worried blue eyes stared with a definacy at riley
and although he seemed quite calm, his hands trembled slightly at his sides.

there was not a word that sam could have uttered that would make things any less
uncomfortable for himself, riley or indianna. there was no easy way out of this and so sam
just decided to speak what was on his mind, he didn't try string something together that
would get him out of this mess nor was he all that weary of the things that he said.
afterall, he couldn't really be more of an ass at that moment so anything he said now, was
simply a bonus. but as all of this was going on he couldn't help but wonder what would
happen next, in the larger scale of things. he couldn't even imagine things with riley lasting
and even if they somehow managed to sort things out, he wasn't sure if he wanted them
to. it wasn't fair to her, or indianna. and so the thought of departing from both of their
lives entered his head. all he had been to them was just one big disappointment, a
heartbreak. his head started to pound as his mind tried to wrap itself around the situation
at hand and how everything was going to change after this moment, what was meant to
be just a pleasant walk on the beach.

EVER THOUGHT JUST MAYBE YOU BELONG WITH ME?
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
she had loved him? this beautiful girl with the tears ebbing down her rosy cheeks had loved him? a
frown of bewilderment tugged at indianna’s soft, latina features as she began to wonder why sam
had never mentioned her before, much less gushed about her. why wouldn’t he have? his girlfriend,
in indi’s eyes, was the very equivalent of a life sized barbie doll. what, with her immaculately blonde
locks and her lush pink lips and her pretty brown eyes. it didn’t even matter that she was sobbing
her poor little heart out, indianna stood trembling behind sam in fearful intimidation of this girl that
had all that she wanted and all that she would never have again after today – this blue-eyed boy in
front of her. and yet after today, indi could no longer deny the feeling that tickled her belly, tugged
at her heartstrings and weakened her legs to jelly whenever sam came into her sights. because like
the sobbing blonde, she too had fallen for him, she would admit it to herself now but never to him.
with her mouth sewn shut, indianna would get over what could only be called her first love, even if
he had never loved her back. she’d have to, she’d be strong like her mother and she’d do this. but
as sam croaked her name out into the uncomfortable air, indianna felt her walls tumbling down all
over again. another sob racked her tiny body and she cupped a palm to her lips to stifle the sound
but the tears took no notice of her effort to keep them at bay and tumbled down her face regardless

“sam”
indi whispered back tearfully in a voice so quiet it was inaudible, a contesting plead to let her
right the wrong she had made with him. that was what friends were for, right? though as he turned
away from her and back to face his girlfriend, indianna heard the awful thwart of flesh upon flesh as
her eyes watched on in horror at the situation unfolding. “sam!” his name parted from her lips again
in the inverse of an echo as this time it was louder, more desperate than the first. the sudden nerve
that had spurred the outburst died down instantaneously and indi clapped a hand to her mouth with
the realisation that she was messing in things she shouldn’t be messing in. her friend’s relationship
with riley was just that and not a place for her to interfere seeing as her input would only worsen the
situation. but she simply could not help herself, seeing sam hurt was the very last thing indi desired
in the world. the anger boiled up furiously inside her stomach. barbie doll or not, that girl didn’t have
a right to slap sam. it was indianna that had drawn him in with that look, it was she that had leaned
and she was the one that deserved the slap in the face. not sam. the raven haired girl swallowed
her remarks though and they slid painfully down past the growing knot tied up in her throat as she
took to fisting one hand in the cloth of her dress and the other in her dark curls to keep them from
reaching out to her friend, it wasn’t her place. sam wasn’t hers, he hadn’t been and never would be.

their conversation, heated on riley’s part, was one that indianna would love to just love to childishly
clap her hands over her ears and pretend she wasn’t listening to. she wished for the ignorance like
nothing else with every passing second. especially as she realised that sam had never denied the
desire to kiss her. fitting two and two together and realising that her feelings weren’t all unrequited
caused the teenage girl’s heart to skip a very hopeful beat inside her chest but her head muffled its
excitement. thinking from her heart would only serve to complicate things now and that could not be
done. indianna sniffed back a sob as sam reasoned with his girlfriend, a strong urge of courage to
drag him away from her and try to make him see that it was she he should be with overcame indi,
but she bit down hard on the temptation and let her gaze take to his fit form instead, remembering
how only minutes ago it had been wrapped around the more delicate build of hers. indi flicked her
eyelids closed and allowed the tears to spill further down her moist cheeks as the brief memories
flooded back into her senses. the smell of his shirt, the spin in her head, the warmth of his breath,
the thud of his heart, the unruly electricity that had zapped the both of them. her breath trembled,
she couldn’t stay here like this; not sobbing and especially not with sam. “i, um... i need to go. i'll
see you later.”
and with that, indianna lee spun unsteadily on her heel and retreated in silent sobs
from the overcast beach and the estranged couple. she hoped for sam’s sake that they would work
their troubles out, but she hoped they’d end it right then and there selfishly for her own.
