Workin' on it...

The stuff I already know:

Delancey is a Muggle-Born who lives with her grandma in a cottage in New Zealand. Her real first name is Theo, but she prefers to just be called Delancey (her grandma usually calls her 'Thebes' because she says she's a warrior and a girl with a hundred gates ahead of her, but no one else can get away with calling her that). She was in a bad situation with her parents and their crazy religion, so she ran away and went to the cops. They helped her find someone who helped her find her grandma, who her parents had kicked out of her life years ago, but who she never forgot. Her grandma paid to bring her to New Zealand a month before her 11th birthday and they've had a really close relationship ever since. Her grandma explained that she never wanted to lose touch with Delancey, but couldn't get through to her parents and no one could do anything because that cult was too well-protected. Her grandma had moved to New Zealand because she had a great job opportunity there and it looked like a fresh start, though it killed her to leave Delancey behind.

Delancey is loving being out of that restrictive place and her grandma didn't even complain when she dyed some rainbow streaks in her hair, she encouraged it! After all, her grandma's still pretty young, herself. She just wants to live and be free and never end up in a place like that ever again. Her parents told her that she had the devil inside her because of her magic, and that's why they brought her to that awful church. Though her grandma doesn't understand what Delancey can do, she just chalks it up to her being gifted and unique. Delancey, herself, didn't even understand it until she got the letter from HNZ. She was so excited about going through the Sorting Ceremony and ended up exactly where she knew she belonged, in Gryffindor!

~birth name~ Theo Darien Delancey - Theo means "God," but she was named after an artist, Theo van Doesburg because her father was obsessed with his art, which Delancey mostly found too ordered and structured and dull, though she liked some of his typographic stuff. Darien means 'he who upholds the good' or 'wealthy' or 'luxurious,' depends which info you use. She likes her middle name, but more for the "dare" part than anything else. Sometimes her grandma calls her 'Dare Bear'. Delancey, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have a meaning, which suits her just fine, not being hemmed in by a definition.
~birthday~ June 20, 2020
~birth time~ 6:20am (PST)
~birthplace~ Carmel, California
~blood type~ AB+

~appearance~ Delancey's about 4'1" tall and weighs 48 pounds. She's small-boned, but tougher than she looks and is something of a pint-sized power-ball. Her hair is blonde with rainbow streaks and she likes to keep it long and straight, which is fortunate since it doesn't like to curl. She has blue-green eyes that sometimes look like a stormy sea (which hints at her tempest-tossed past and her feisty side that has a temper). Sometimes she'll wear dark blue or black nail polish on her fingers, but she's always biting her nails, so it's usually pretty worn and ragged if she does. Her toes are always painted a bright color, either hot pink, neon tangerine, electric aqua, school bus yellow, or white (that's her subtle color). Her clothes are pretty casual, though she can be funky, sometimes mixing patterns and styles in a way that makes her grandma ask if she went temporarily blind that morning. Speaking of...there was an...incident the other day with some old church ladies making loud, rude remarks about Delancey's hair and her grandma's failure as a parent. This made Delancey so mad that their L&Ps exploded and her hair flared out around her head like a living flame, the rainbow colors brightening and becoming part of her hair from the inside out. Well, at least she never had to dye it again! The streaks seemed to be permanent now, and she couldn't be happier!

~favorite flavor of ice cream~ Reese's Peanut Butter Cup mixed with Heath Bar and Raw Cookie Dough and topped with lots of Hot Fudge and Caramel
~favorite food~ Double Cheeseburger (just meat and cheese, no other toppings, please!) with Seasoned Curly Fries and Diet Coke, but she also loves PB&Js, Corn Dogs with Mayo & Mustard mixed together, Jalapeño Poppers, Fried Avocados stuffed with Chicken & Cheese, and Taco Bell's Cheesy Bean and Rice Burritos
~favorite things to do~ Climbing, Swimming, Riding Horses, Doing Magic, Scaring the Wits outta People, and Reading about a Book a Day!
~favorite colors~ electric aqua and hot pink so bright it's almost orange
~favorite childhood hero~ Rainbow Brite
~favorite hobby~ riding wild horses bareback (or trying to)
~favorite place to be~ Anywhere no one's telling her what to do! At least that's her knee-jerk reaction. But really, it's her bedroom at her grandma's house. Her grandma decorated it so warm and comfy and it's the first bedroom she's ever had where she felt safe and happy and free. She even likes the calm, soothing colors because being in there makes her feel like a human rainbow:

~personality 'n' stuff~ Delancey's a new soul, an electric spark of energy, an eternal peter pan, and a junk-food-a-holic. She's passionate, determined, and incredibly competitive, but also free-spirited, protective, and fun-loving. She loves to play games (and pranks) and hates going to bed early, but she hates waking up early even more. She smiles more than anyone else she knows and sometimes laughs at inappropriate times. She'll go out of her way to help you out, but crossing Delancey is a bad idea. She's not afraid to tell you what she thinks of you...publicly and in colorful detail. Sometimes she speaks without thinking, even when she means to be nice, and ends up making people angry. Her grandma just laughs and calls her "The Energizer Bunny from Hell," which she loves because it's ironic thinking about her parents. Though she'll joke about the stuff with her parents with her grandma or just in her own head, it's not something she talks about with other people and she avoids the subject like crazy when it comes up. She's definitely prone to running away from painful topics and situations, even just by cracking a joke or changing the subject. Oddly enough, she's pretty darned intuitive when she wants to be and sees more than people probably want her to see, but she's not really one to drag the muck out of people if they'd rather hide it and is happy to talk about something else instead of causing another person pain. In terms of school, she's actually a stellar student, due in part to her eidetic memory though hampered sometimes by her scattered-ness. Growing up, she learned early that she had to find answers for herself, since she couldn't trust the people around her. School was the only place where she had anything normal and she just loved to learn and learn and learn. Books have been her best friends for years, though that's probably not something you'd guess by looking at her. Oh, she's also ambidextrous, which matches her personality perfectly. She can't stand being limited or hemmed in by anything!

~likes~ horses, loud thunderstorms, lightning, extreme weather, danger, silver, and games of all kinds
~dislikes~ living in the past, bad teeth, clingy people, and mindless restrictions for the sake of control

~skillz~ She loves making perfumes and lotions and stuff with her grandma. Her favorite one right now is a Freesia, Apple, & Cinnamon concoction that smells so amazing she wears it all the time. She actually has pretty good control over some of her powers, especially moving stuff with her mind. She doesn't understand why witches and wizards can't do that anymore when they get wands, and is kinda afraid to start using one. The idea of being tied to a wand is annoying, but a wand did choose her: a 15" Ebony Wand with a Phoenix Talon Core.

~grandma~ Erica Lauren Kent, 39, interior designer, artist, and all around best person ever
~mom~ Jacqueline Vanessa Kent, 24, religious extremist, lives in a commune in Utah, out of Delancey's life forever, she hopes
~dad~ Grayson Edward Delancey, 58, religious extremist, leads and lives in a commune in Utah, out of Delancey's life forever, she hopes
~other family~ not that she knows of

~heritage/ethnicity~ South African & Danish is all she knows for sure, but of course she'd also say she's American or even Californian!

~pets~ As much as she'd love to have a horse, she can't handle the thought of owning anything that should be wild. She did buy a beautiful female gyrfalcon from Eeylops for mail and companionship and stuff, but she can fly free all she wants! She named her Archimedes, even though it's technically a boy name. It just fit when she looked at her.

~personal items she plans to bring to school~ The only van Doesburg print she ever liked and her grandma had printed on some raw canvas for her as a "Welcome to New Zealand" present, her favorite AE messenger bag that she bought with money she earned one week selling some bookmarks that she made before getting bored, her homemade perfume and lotion, and a small painting her grandma made for her when she was a baby:

I hope you don't mind a few questions :)

1. What is Theo's favorite game?
2. You mention Theo being in church. Does she enjoy going?
3. How is Theo going to handle being away from her grandma?
4. Theo's grandmother is very young. Is she her grandmother on her mother's side or father's side?
5. Will she be leaving any friends behind?
6. How many languages does she speak?

Questions are welcome!

1. What is Theo's favorite game?

She has trouble picking just one! She loves hide and seek, racing people, doing pretty much any games a kid can make up outside...anything physical (she doesn't have the patience for games like chess). She doesn't know what it is yet, but she's going to fall in love with Quidditch, partly because she wants to fly like crazy.

2. You mention Theo being in church. Does she enjoy going?

No! She was raised in a cult (that they called a "church") because her parents thought her magic was the work of the devil inside her and it took all of her guts and nerve and a whole lotta luck and helpful cops to escape, so she has major issues with religion. The church ladies that made her angry in New Zealand were just older women sitting on a bench outside a church that she happened to walk by one day.

3. How is Theo going to handle being away from her grandma?

It's going to be hard on her. It'll be the first time she'll be sad to be away from anyone. She's usually very upbeat and positive and nothing gets her down (or I should say she hides it well and displaces pain into activity), but she'll have some moments of wishing her grandma could be there with her. Her grandma was her safe harbor after she rescued herself from the cult, and her grandma has been a huge influence in her life, as well as being the only person in the world that Delancey is comfortable needing. Delancey's kind of a mini version of her grandma, similar to how she was at Delancey's age, though quite a bit more hyper and adventure-prone, where her grandma was always more artistic and somehow regal, even in her wildest moments. She'll likely deal with her sadness through distractions: having adventures, flying at every opportunity, exploring the castle, possibly getting into trouble (in a fred and george hijinks kind of way), playing Quidditch if she'd be allowed to (or trying to practice it on her own, if not), etc.

4. Theo's grandmother is very young. Is she her grandmother on her mother's side or father's side?

She is. She's her mother's mother and had Delancey's mother when she was just 15 years old, as a wild, carefree artistic teenager with a bohemian upbringing. Delancey's mother had her when she was 13, due to a Svengali-like relationship with her silver-tongued now-cult-leader father (who is 58 now, much older than even her grandma). These things happen in the muggle world, unfortunately, and Delancey is the first ever in her line to display magical powers.

5. Will she be leaving any friends behind?

Nope. She was incredibly isolated in the cult, and though she would sometimes be able to play games with other children there, never bonded with any of them. She had always resisted what she was taught there because it just felt wrong to her (maybe something about her magic letting her know it was against her nature - not in a seer way, just in a Harry's-hair-growing-back/shrinking-the-ugly-sweater way). She didn't get out until the year she turned 11 and it took awhile to find her grandma, so she didn't come to New Zealand until about a month before her 11th birthday and has spent most of that time with her grandma. (I imagine her having been placed in a state-run facility while they looked for her grandma.) She needed to time to heal and adjust. The time with her grandma is part of why she's adjusted so well to what she's been through, though she still has some pain to face around it in the future. Also, her isolation growing up is part of why she's so commitment-phobic. She's afraid to get attached to anyone, seeing how it ruined her mother's life, especially now that she's so close to her grandma and really has an idea of what her mother lost. So she's likely to be this blazing rainbow streak that bounces around and through people's lives, but resists staying anywhere too long. She's freedom-loving to the nth degree.

*Random Note: I have an idea for her to be like a human patronus, eventually, just kind of naturally resistant or immune to the dementors, once she's dealt with the pain of her past. I think it suits her personality perfectly, and there's some canon room for it (Harry in the MoM under the invisibility cloak in DH). What I'm not sure about is if she can shine her positivity outward in a way that protects others, too.

6. How many languages does she speak?

Just 1: English.
