'Almost there' Dylan thought, as he tried to reach the book a shelf too high for him. He stretched but no, he wasn't going to make it. He sighed and looked round for something to climb up onto like a stool but there wasn't anything. See this was why Dylan hated the library, there was an overwhelming amount of books he had no desire to read, but when there was a book, he either couldn't find it amongst the other books, or was on a shelf too high. Now would be a good time for Dylan to suddenly grow several feet.

He decided to stack various books on the floor to give him some height. It seemed stable enough so he slowly stood on it, "Perfect" he said, reaching for the book when... crash. Next thing he knew, Dylan was lying in a heap on the floor, okay maybe stacking books on top of each other wasn't a genius idea after all.

He groaned and then noticed he wasn't alone. Oh Merlin, he had already fallen off a pile of books, he didn't need company. You know what made it even worse? After all of that he still hadn't managed to get the book! He might as well give up now!

Vivienne was wandering through the library, not really looking for anything in particular. Although she'd been at the school for over a year now, she was still overly interested in everything to do with magic. Unlike other people, who had grown used to, or even bored of it all, Vivienne loved finding out new things. She strolled down the rows of shelves, flicking open random books every once in a while.

As she was about to sit down with a thick book on Ancient Runes,Vivienne saw something out the corner of her eye. It was a boy, about her age, and he seemed to be having difficulty reaching a book. Giggling silently to herself, she decided not to go help him just yet. If he couldn't get it, then there was no chance she would be able to get it. If he's still had no luck once I finish this page, then I'll go help, Vivienne thought to herself, turning back to the book.

A minute later, she almost jumped out of her skin when a loud crash interrupted her reading. Looking up, she realised that it was the same boy. Except, he was now on the floor and surrounded by books. "Oh my gosh! Are you okay? I should have helped you earlier.." Vivienne said as she rushed to his side. She began clearing books off him, before pulling out her Ebony wand and pointing it at the top shelf. "Wingardium Leviosa," she spoke quietly, moving her wand in small motions so as to not drop the heavy book on his head. Resting it on the table, she slipped the wand back into her bag. "Are you okay?" Vivienne said again, extending her hand to the boy and smiling reassuringly.

Dylan groaned. "I'm fine" he replied, pushing books off him. He really didn't want people watching him right now. "Magic. Now why didn't I think of that?" Dylan even had his wand in his pocket, but it still didn't click that he was a wizard and could get the book down quite easily. Accio book would have worked a treat. Oh well it was to late now, instead of taking the girls hand, he didn't want girl germs, he stood up and brushed book dust off him (there was rather a lot of it I might add). "Yeah I'm fine!" Dylan answered again.

Vivienne laughed when the boy refused to take her hand. Pulling it back to her side, she noticed that the boy sounded a wee bit upset. But hey, who wouldn't be if they'd just been buried alive in books, she thought. Vivienne smiled at the boy, she didn't recognise him. "Hey, are you a first year? I don't think I've seen you before. I'm a second year Hufflepuff," she said in friendly way. The boy probably didn't care, but it was just what Vivienne had grown used to saying that. Where ever she went it was always 'What year are you? What house are you?' etc.

Dylan looked at the girl, "No I'm not a first year" He replied, why would she think he was a first year, he didn't look like an eleven year old. He was going to be turning thirteen soon, how could she mistake him for a firstie?! "I'm a second year" He pointed at the Hufflepuff crest on his chest, "Hufflepuff. Like you." Dylan didn't sound too enthusiastic.

Vivienne laughed again when the boy took a slightly defensive tone to her calling him a first year. "Oh sorry, it's just that one year doesn't really make that much of a visible difference.. and I've never seen you around before. I thought I knew most of the second year Hufflepuffs, but I guess not. Do you sit at the back of the class or something?" she joked, wondering if he skipped classes, or just wasn't noticeable.

Vivienne noticed the boy's lack of enthusiasm when he told her what house he was in. She had a lot of pride for her house, as did most Hufflepuff's, so she thought it was strange that he didn't. "Do you not like Hufflepuff?" Vivienne smiled, pulling out her song writing book. She'd just gotten a great idea for a song.

Dylan wasn't in the best of moods after a heap of heavy books had just fallen on top of him. He wanted to go feel sorry for himself somewhere, but instead he was being asked endless questions by this girl. Hold on, he didn't even know her name! "No, I guess we just haven't met before" Dylan answered, "Hogwarts is a big place after all, it's easy to miss people." Then she asked another question, if he didn't like Hufflepuff, he restrained rolling his eyes. "No Hufflepuff is cool it's just, I just haven't had the best of days today, and just got submerged by books" He paused, "If you hadn't noticed I'm not in the best of moods."

Vivienne giggled a bit when the boy said it was easy to miss people at Hogwarts. "But surely I would have seen you in class.. we are in the same classes nearly everyday for seven years," she said, thinking he probably didn't attend many classes. When the boy talked about the bad day he'd been having, Vivienne's heart went out to him. She just hated seeing anyone sad. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.." she said with a sympathetic smile. Vivienne could relate, she'd been having quite a few bad days herself. Especially since she got back to school from being in France for the holidays..

"Soo.." she said wistfully, trying hard to move her thoughts away from what had happened that Summer. Vivienne needed to realise that she would never see Dan again, and forget about him. It was just a Summer fling, nothing more. "Um.. I'm Vivienne by the way," she said with an inviting smile, holding her hand out to the boy.

He wasn’t as annoyed as he was five minutes ago, Dylan had gotten over the books falling on top of him. However, this girl still seemed to insist she knew everyone or would have at least seen him before, strange huh. Probably because I’ve been inactive haven’t been socialising much. Dylan merely shrugged, “Well I guess you’ve seen everyone now” He said, smiling back at her briefly.

Then she introduced herself, Dylan couldn’t believe he had forgotten to introduce himself! “Oh, yeah sorry, I’m Dylan” Usually you would have this part at the start of meeting someone, but I guess not. He glanced at her hand, hmm was he ready for physical contact yet? Instead of shaking her hand, he merely ignored it, as if he didn’t notice. Touching a girl... ew.

“Anyway, what are you doing here?” Stupid question, she was probably studying, but Dylan decided to make some sort of conversation.
