Ozzy was absorbing information like a sponge while everything around him seemed like they had came alive straight out of the pages of the fantasy books he liked to read so much. This castle was eons better than the orphanage that he had spent his eleven years of life. He was learning something new wherever his amber eyes were setting on and he was already aware of the school's story and houses thanks to the history book he started reading during his trip on the steam locomotive.
Ozzy, as a general rule, hid his emotions. He preferred to rather not hand over what was going on in his mind and so at all times his face was blank. But tonight was different. Upon entering the Great Hall along with his fellow first years, excitement poured out him like sunshine, he glowed from the inside out. The smile that cracked his face hadn't been seen since never and he walked faster, anticipating his sorting. Although he had read about the houses' different qualities, he didn't have a personal favorite. Just the fact that he was away from the orphanage and a new world full of infinite possibilities and inexhaustible knowledge was unfolding before him, was making him grateful to just be part of all this.
It wasn't long until his name was called and he left the safety of the group to take a step forth and reach the stool. He had a seat and the animate hat was placed on his head. Maybe one day he would be able to read minds too like this animate hat.

Paolo was nervous to find out how he was to get sorted. His parents never mentioned how they were sorted when they were in school, but his father ended up in Ravenclaw and his mother was a Gryffindor. The young student hoped he would be placed into at least one of those! He followed the rest of the students as a professor led them into the Great Hall. Paolo was amazed by everything he was seeing in the school and couldn't wait to learn all that he could here.
Once there they were led to the very front where Paolo spotted an old ratty-looking hat. The professor stated how they would wear the hat and supposedly be placed into their house. Sounds easy enough! He waited his turn, seeing several other students be called before him, and eventually heard his name. His stepped up to the stool, placed on the hat, and held his breath until he heard the hat speak!

Blaise peered at Rosemaryn carefully, taking in her reaction to the castle before shaking his head to himself. His sister insisted on this place being the worst thing to ever happen to her, yet here she was looking like she had just walked into a fairytale. Blaise didn't particularly care where he went, as long as he had the opportunity to get out of the house and do something more than chores. Blaise liked school and he liked sports. Hogwarts had both so long as he could do both without being interrupted, he was content. His blue eyes shifted away from his sister to the various students standing around them. Crowds of people often made Blaise nervous. He wasn't exactly shy so much as he just didn't appreciate being around others that he didn't know very well. Out of all his siblings, Blaise was the quietest and most aloof. He'd much rather sit in the corner with the book than socialize. He wasn't afraid to speak his mind, but more often than not, if something involved talking, Rosemaryn was the one that took the reins. Blaise was more than happy to tune her out when the talking got to be too much for him to take.
When the line of students moved forward, Blaise held his breath. He was eager to settle into his dormitory and relax for a little while. Arriving at Hogwarts had taken a lot out of him. He'd like to explore the castle and Quidditch pitch once he got the chance, but that'd have to wait until he got somewhat of a nap in. "Where do you think we'll end up, Rose?" Blaise ask once he caught his sister's attention for more than twenty seconds. Blaise was partial to being sorted in Slytherin like his mother, but he figured none of the houses could be that bad. As long as they had a decent Quidditch team, he was happy. Rosemaryn was called first and was quickly sorted into Slytherin. Blaise watched her hurry off to sit with her new housemates with a stab of envy. He couldn't think of a more suited house for his sister. Blaise heard his name being called and approached the podium. Without hesitation, he sat himself down and waited for the hat to be placed on his head.

Ashita pulled her hair out of her of the ponytail she normally wore it in when around family and headed into the Great Hall. She couldn't wait to see what house she would be in. The environment was amazing, the lighting and the magic she could feel were all so amazing. It was very clear that this castle was very old. Ashita kept her face low as they came to the front of the room and waited for her name. She knew she would be the first, given both of her names started with A. Even with her brothers, she would go first. Then would be Jigoku and then Vegeta. She soon heard her name called and Ashita looked over her shoulder at her brothers before heading up to the stool. She nodded at them as she took her seat to wait for the hat to call her house.

Marco was so excited to be attending the school. He had his sister there to guide him and he was very excited about it. Munching on a bar of chocolate, Marco waved at Eva as he walked towards the front and waited for his name to be called. Mariani was not a very long name, but M was near the middle of the alphabet and so he knew he would have some time to wait until he would hear his name called. The room was more than he had ever see and everything that Eva had told him about the school was suddenly making so much more sense to him then it had when she was writing about it before, and speaking over break. He grinned when his name was called and made his way up to the stool to be placed.

Jean still couldn't believe that she was actually standing in the Great Hall of Hogwarts Castle. She's heard so much about it from her mother that the only thing she wanted for a long time was to see this castle. She loved her mother so much, that she didn't even care that she didn't have a father. None of it mattered as she strolled down the steps and into her spot along the front of the room. To look around, seeing the sea of faces lined up and along the tables, Jean couldn't wait to see where she would be seated, it would be ever so much fun. Looking at each of the new students as they stood and sat on the stool to have their house called, Jean wondered who would be her friends, since she didn't have very many. Her only friend was her mother and that was because her mother didn't like her going out too much. She said she was a bit of a handful, but Jean didn't agree. Her name was called and she stepped forward and up to the stool, to wait excitedly for her house.

Evgenia pointedly ignored Bisera as she walked into the great hall and looked around. She wanted to see everything in the best form that magic could offer. Honestly it was all so exciting and Evgenia was trying her hardest not to jump up and down with the excitement of it all. She almost ran into the hall and was almost running around in the train, only she knew better than that. Smiling at her surroundings and clasping her hand in excited thrill, Evgenia waited, not very patiently, for her name to be called before she rushed up to the stool, tripping as she went and scraping her knee. Laughing at herself, Evgenia pushed the hat down on her head and waited for the verdict.

Chrysander couldn't believe that he was actually standing in the great hall of Hogwarts New Zealand. To be honest, he'd never thought this would happen to him. Not that he didn't think he was magical or anything like that, he knew he was, but he was very clumsy and his siblings always teased him that he would probably blow himself up before he ever got to this point. To be honest, he'd kind of agreed with them. Holding his robes up, to give him one less thing to trip over, not that he needed anything to trip over, Chris walked further into the great hall, watching his feet like hawks. Doing this, however, had not been his greatest idea as he managed to walk straight into someone knocking them both to the ground in a heap. The person beneath him pushed him away and told him to watch it. Chris apologised profusely and bit his lip as he stood back up. The whole room was watching him now, which was extremely uncomfortable. Chris waited patiently, though he shifted from foot to foot, until his name was called. Walking up to the stool, tripping on every step, Chris finally managed to make it to the sorting hat. He could only hope this embarrassing day would be over very soon.

If you had said to Zara only a few months ago that she would be going to a school set away in New Zealand that was full of magical students and they would all be living inside a castle; she wouldn't have believed it. Yet here she was, in the Hall of the school surrounded by witches and wizards of all ages and from all backgrounds, it was completely unexpected but she felt like she had a purpose. She was ready to be sorted, she was ready to be shown where she belonged and ready to learn all she could. Zara watched as her fellow classmates went up before her to get sorted into their houses and she was itching for her turn. She had no idea what they meant or what they symbolised but she knew she was going to find out all she could about the house she would be sorted into once she had the chance.
"Haines, Zara"
It wasn't long before her name was called and Zara stepped forward and sat on the stool where she faced the rest of the school. Oddly, she wasn't nervous at all. She was excited, she was surrounded by people like her and soon she would find out the ones that she shared many of her own traits with too. She looked up at the rim of the hat and wondered what it could see inside her head; it was a strange way to find out where to place an individual but Zara shrugged and would figure that out later, she breathed out deeply and waited for the hat to talk.

Amid the excitement, Paisley managed to doze off into a deep, deep slumber. The past two months coupled with the past 24 hours could have put any eleven-year-old into a sleep-induced coma! This morning she was shaken awake at the crack of dawn, stuffed into a car, and driven for hours to board this silly train. The moment she plopped down in the empty car, and the train exited the station---she was knocked out! It never occurred to Paisley how little she knew about the boarding school until she stepped foot on the grounds. The situation involving the topic was unusual. While her parents wanted nothing to do with the school---her aunt was its biggest advocate. What did she really, really, really know about Hogwarts?
Paisley was the last student to join the first years. Soon enough, the large army of eleven-year-olds stormed the Great Hall. Her big brown eyes grew wide. What is this place? For most of the ceremony, Paisley stood in her whole world, with her eyes glued to the enchanted ceiling. She stood at a prepubescent 4'11" among those taller than her, and she gave 'just enough' attention to hear the letter of the alphabet.
"Phillips, Paisley."
She pushed through the thinning crowd to the front. There Paisley found an empty stool and a tattered hat. Unsure why the entire student body was looking at her, she sat on the stool where her small legs hung above the floor. The hat erupted:
"Your ambition would serve you well in Slytherin, but your adventurousness would serve you even better in...... Gryffindor."

Belle really did want to listen to the Headmistress’s words, but it was very difficult not to get distracted by the magical room around her. She looked up at the ceiling for the 1000th time, trying to take in every single detail so that she could tell her family all about it. She planned to write to them as soon as she could and there was no way she was going to leave anything out!
Soon the Headmistress started to call names and students around her began to go up to be sorted into their houses, which made Belle very nervous. Would she be able to go up in front of all of these strangers when her name was called?
She took another glance around the room and saw that everyone seemed so welcoming, which made her decide that maybe she could do this after all. Once her name was called Belle made her way to the front and sat down. She thought about how everyone there, along with her family, were supporting her as the hat was placed on her head.

Lidiya followed the group entering the great hall. To many, it was an exciting time of their young lives. Lidiya, felt it but did a brilliant job in hiding behind a placid stare. The unnatural, white haired girl's dullness conveyed the feeling of boredom. Something that bugged her father to no end while her mother found it amusing. In reality, she had been a little bored from the ride up here. The nonstop chatter in her ears she had found annoying and wished to have push some of the kids off the carriage. Many have spoke excitedly over the different houses. Lidiya listen a fair amount of the conversations, until she tuned them out and waited for the hat to sort her instead.

Lena stood among the other first years, waiting impatiently for her name to be called. She attempted to listen to the Headmistress' introductory speech, knowing that it was important that she did so, but she was still awestruck at all that she could see. Although she knew logically what spells were being used, thanks to the tutoring that she was provided by her brother and mother, knowing and seeing it for herself were two completely different things. The young girl turned to face the front again when she realised the Headmistress was finished with her introductory speech, her eyes widening even further when she heard the Sorting Hat's song. None of the books mentioned that the Sorting Hat sang! They hadn't even mentioned how they would be sorted, which Lena found especially irritating in the last few months as she waited impatiently for the school term to begin.
Too soon it was her turn to be sorted. After hearing her name called, the young girl weaved through the crowd to approach the hat, thinking absent-mindedly that she was glad her surname had been pronounced correctly, and not butchered like it often was. She was excited to begin her Hogwarts life, but was nervous about placing her life and future in the hands of a hat.. What if it sorted her wrong? Could what house she was sorted in affect her plans to be better than her brother?

Honey was exhausted. After a long day of travelling from California, to Australia, and finally New Zealand all Honey could think about was a soft, cushiony bed no matter the house. Tugging at her sleeves, the girl was becoming antsy along with tired. Landing somewhere in the middle of the flock of other first years, Honey wasn't really paying much attention - she had seven years to go, why would she try to memorize the entrance hall her first time through? Heading through some very tall doors, the Californian did notice the warmth and energy radiating from every direction, waking her up a slight bit.
Standing with the others, and only half paying attention to the headmistress, Honey's eyes widened when a dusty old hat started singing about the four houses. She didn't know a hat would be the one to sort her, this was going to be so much easier than anticipated! No forms, no quizzes, just a simple hat. Honey payed close attention to each of the other first years being sorted. She wanted to know her peers, and more importantly who she could sit next to after being sorted. It didn't take her long to realize it was alphabetical by last name, and in return Honey got more and more anxious the closer the hat got to the letter "S". Holding her breath, she heard it, "Smith, Honey" exhaling, she nervously inched towards the hat biting the inside of her cheek as she wiggled onto the stool. Not knowing what else to do, the girl sat and wondering if there'd be any directions.
