The corridors echoed in silent gloom of the evening. Most students were in their dormitories, a few in the common rooms. It was the job of the Head Boy, Head Girl, and prefects to keeps watch for any students making late night escapes to the kitchens, or the library, or for a bit of moonlit Quidditch. Two green eyes pierced the gloom, coming to look out of one window at the world outside. The almost pitch black grounds of Hogwarts made for little entertainment to redheaded Head Boy as he patrolled the sixth floor corridor. With a sigh, he returned to his pacing. Back and forth, back and forth, thoughts filling his head.
A breeze curled up from one of the sections of corridor, brushing past Landon's face, sliding fingers through his hair. He turned his head, not sure what he was looking for, but there was nothing but more corridor. Rolling his eyes, Landon returned to his thoughts, though he soon stopped in his tracks at a strange howling noise. At first, he believed it to be a student crying. Instinctively, Landon hurried towards the spot, marching along the corridor in the direction from whence the breeze had come. Perhaps a student had opened a window and was in peril? Slightly panicked, Landon hurried towards the sound. But when he reached the end of one corridor, the noise had abruptly stopped. Landon stared around him. You're losing the plot, old man, a voice inside him hissed, it was just the wind.
And yet, reasonable though the explanation for this was, Landon found himself unable to move on. Something in his gut was telling him to wait. "For what?" he breathed aloud, pacing back and forth. He was obviously overtired. Pulling out his pocket watch, Landon glimpsed the time. No wonder he was so tired! He continued to pace, thinking longingly of the days he had spent sneaking around the castle late at night with Lucy and Artemis and Jareth. He thought of those times he and Lucy had laughed together at very nearly getting caught by a prefect or a teacher. He wished he could relive those times, wished he could be back with them all. But that was impossible. I just need a place to remember what was good, I need a place to hideaway, once in a while. I need a place to feel alive.
Landon's heart almost came to halt. He froze, a breeze rolling past his ear, and he turned his head, slowly, to fix on the small wooden door materialising beside him. "Merlin's eyebrows.." His voice shook as the words tumbled free of his mouth. He had been studying at Hogwarts for seven years. Seven long years. The number of times he had just walked on past this place, were astronomical. "You are joking.." His heart pounded heavily against the walls of his chest. Now he was faced with a dilemma; a door had just appeared out of nowhere, a door that went to goodness-knew-where, a door that could have the deadliest of beasts living behind it, could be packed out with traps, and Landon, an on-duty Head Boy, was considering opening this mysterious door, and not just that, but stepping inside and closing it behind him. What if he never found this place again? He would kick himself for not just taking a tiny peek inside. Drawing his wand from his pocket, glancing about to check no-one else would witness his next move, Landon placed a hand upon the door handle, and gave it a small push.
Instantly, his mouth hung open: He had just walked into an enormous room filled with slightly fuzzy glows of orange and pink light, a few baggy sofas, empty picture frames, photo albums, a rememberall, and a chess set. Landon also couldn't help but notice the Christmas decorations strewn about the place. He loved Christmas, and it brought back fond memories of the past, of he and Lucy. He knew where he now stood, he knew what room this was. His heart filled with joy. Years of searching and he had managed to stumble across it. Lucy had been right about thinking it would be on one of the upper floors. They had begun their search from the bottom, up. That was why they had yet to uncover this place. But now, by chance, Landon had found the happiest place in the world, the Room of Requirement. Well, almost the happiest. There was but one thing missing, and he would soon solve that.
