The big wide world

Amy smiled and nodded. "Yeh, its lovely here." She said thoughtfully. "Um, i don't know about jobs. I would preferably like to work in a shop or become a healer. I don't think i would fit in at the ministry of magic." She concluded finally. "Do you know of any shops that need an assistant?" She asked, knowing that the possibility of this would be very slim. "Do you have a job?" She asked, wanting to know more about him.

(OOC: Sorry for the lame reply and the short post. Im really tired. )

Mark nodded as he listened to Amy tell him what jobs she wanted, and didn't want to do. He had to admit he had never really wanted to do any of the things that she had just listed but right now he wasnted to be a Professor like his cousin. It seemed like a decent job to be doing. "I think you would be a good healer. I can see you becoming one." He said to her with a smile. He had a knack for knowing what jobs people should be in. He had guessed what Hilde had wanted to do in just one atttempt. "Urm no not yet. Im still applying. I want to be a Professor so getting accepted could take a while because of other people applying to." He explained. He could wait, after all patients was a virtue. "I would say my cousins shop but i think he has enough already. You should ask around some of the shops when you haave time. Im sure someone will be hiring seeing as its sorting now." He said as he tried to think of a plan. He would have thought with all the new students needing supplies shops would be wanting new assistants

Amy nodded. "Sounds like a good plan to me." She said, smiling. "I think that you would be a good professor." She added, imagining him strolling up and down a classroom, teaching young kids a subject. "What subject would you like to teach?" She asked, actually interested in what he had to say.

Mark grinned widely at her as she complemented him. "Thanks. I hope i would make a good professor too." He joked with a slight chuckle in his tone. He did hope he would make a good professor, he liked talking to people and had good communication skills and not to mention he had just left school so the information was still fresh in his head and he knew what ways worked the best in teaching. "Im not sure really. Im fine with anything as long as it isn't Herbology really. I would like to teach defence against the dark arts because its my favourite subject but my cousin teaches that and because its a compulsory lesson he teaches all years by himself so it would be too much work." Mark told her as he scratched the back of his neck awkwardly before taking a sip of his drink to give him something to do

Amy nodded. She understood where he was coming from. "Could you ask your cousin to let you do a few lessons maybe?" She asked, trying to think of a solution. "You can help me if you want." She added, thinking of her OWLs next year. She followed his example and took another sip of her butterbeer. It was just as delicious as the first time. Looking out of the window, she noticed that it was starting to get dark.

Mark shook his head with a sigh. "Nah it would be a little strange. Id rather teach my own lesson, a bit of independent you know." He explained. He would probably like to teach transfiguration or astronomy. "I can help you with the theory but your under age so i can help you with spells." He said following her gaze out of the window noticing the darkness unfolding out side. Of course he guessed it was probably light in France, there was quite a time difference between here and there.

Amelia nodded, she understood where he was coming from. "Would you? That would be great." She said, pleased that she had found someone to help her. Most of her friends would go home to their wizarding parents for advice and help, but well, this was a sensitive area and she wouldn't go home. She noticed that he had followed her gaze out of the window. "Im just not used to the time change yet." She said, stifling a yawn behind her hand.

Mark smiled softly at Amy as she said it would be great for him to help her, he liked helping people out it gave him some happiness. "What do you want to know?" He asked her curiously as he tilted his head to the side. As she commented about the time difference Mark answered. "Your best bet is to see what time it is in France and then what time it is here and work it out." He said sharing his own actions with her. Although seeing as he never really left New Zealand he didn't have too much experience with time differences.

Amelia nodded. "Yeh, i suppose i should." She said, yawning again. "Well, i don't know anything that i need to know yet. But just for later in the year maybe. Can we write?" She asked, wanting to keep touch with Mark. She felt that there was something special between them and was, for the first time in ages, dreading going back to school and France, for fear of him falling for a girl and forgetting her existence. She had never felt like this with a guy before and was normally happy for them to find another girl to gaze at. But she felt protective of Mark, as if he was hers. Shaking her head to get rid of these thoughts, she finished her butterbeer and smiled gently at him again.

Staying quiet as Amy spoke to him he listened carefully to her, loving the sound of her voice ringing in the air like bells chiming. He nodded his head at her question. "Course, but for now you have your summer holidays so we have a while before we need to write to each other." He said with a grin. Usually he would not talk about writing to a girl he had just met but he liked Amy, and not because she was one of the most beautiful girls he had ever seen but because she was a nice girl to be around and to talk to. A rare trait in some girls these days he had found out, the hard way. "So where abouts in France do you live?" He asked her wondering if it would be anywhere he knew, not that he knew many places though

Amy smiled, happy that Mark agreed. "yeh, we have AGES till the holidays end." She said cheerfully, happy at the prospect of spending a lot of it with him. "Well, my parents live in Paris. But i live at beauxbatons." She added, her voice slightly cold. She detested talking about the subject of her parents and quickly moved on, not wanting to take any of it out on mark and upset him. "How about you then?" She asked.

Laughing slightly at her enthusiasm about their extended time together he quickly noticed her closure on the topic of her parents. He would question any more, after all he knew all about family problems and wouldn't make her talk on the subject if she didn't want to and by how suddenly she changed the topic he guessed that she did not. "I live with my little brother, my cousin, his wife and child. Iv only recently moved in though, i lived with my dad but we didn't get along so I adopted my little brother because he was on another side of the family and he wasn't enjoying it and once id done that i moved in with Riley." He said realising he had just given her a lengthy statement. He cleared his throat. "So iv just given you half a life story." He joked with a laugh in an attempt to relieve any potential awkwardness from kicking in between the pair

Amelia tried to keep up with what he was saying and nodded unconfidently, repeating the sentence in her head a few time to make sure that her translation was correct. She suddenly realised what he said and nodded, laughing. "Sorry, translation took a while." She explained, looking around. Everything in the restaurant seemed suddenly dull compared to him and she shook her head, trying to clear her vision. Smiling again, she turned to see what they were going to do next.

Mark laughed out loud as Amy spoke. He had not thought that he had spoken so quickly but after all she was French so English was probably not her primary language so he would need to talk a little slower to help her out. "Oh sorry il talk slower for you." He said giving her a friendly smile as she looked around the room. He did the same, it wasn't really busy in here it was nice and calm. He looked back to the girl in front of him and said. "Your looking around an awful lot. Are you expecting someone?" He asked her curiously he hoped now an extra person would ruin his time with her

Amelia laughed as he said that he would talk slower. "Non, c'est bon. It normally starts to take longer in the evenings." She explained, not wanting him to think that she couldn't understand. "No, no one." She dismissed quickly. "Im new here and i like to look around." She added, wondering how strange that sounded. She didn't want anyone that she knew to turn up, because she was having so much fun with Mark that she didn't want the night to end.

Standing up slowly, she acknowledged her butterbeer one last time and smiled. "Can we go for a walk. I like being outside." She said slowly, wanting to leave. The room suddenly felt small and as if it was constricting her and she felt nauseous. Not mentioning this to Mark for fear of panicking him, she pushed it aside as jet lag, something she only rarely had.

Mark nodded slowly as she said that she just found listening hard in the evening. He could understand, he switched off at times when he was tired although coincidently it was usually when people would talk to him most. It was very strange and also very annoying. "Ah right. Good, Id be a little sad if someone else joined us." He said giving her a crooked smile. He guessed it was ok to flirt seeing as she was a nice girl and if he knew anything it was girls, no matter how long he had been out of practise and he knew when a girl liked him and when they didn't. Even if it was just a friendly thing he could still be a little flirtatious towards her. Try and get his game back.

As she stood up he wondered if she would leave him here, just a passing thought as it had almost happened earlier. He stood up with her and picked his drink up and finished it in a few big gulps before placing the empty glass back on the table and nodding in her direction. "Yeah ok then." He said acceptingly as he headed for the door and held it open for her. "Ladies first." He said with a grin as he showed off his white teeth. "So where does the lady want to go now?" He asked as he followed her back out to the open although it was getting pretty dark pretty quick, normal to expect as it was winter after all

Amy raised her eyebrows and stopped walking. 'He's flirting with me.' She thought to herself. Seeing as flirting was something she did almost daily, she knew the signs and laughed slightly. Letting him hold open the door for her she smiled and walked through, throwing a flirtatious glance at him. '2 can play at a game.' She told herself as she walked. "I don't mind, really. Where would you like to take me Mr Tour Guide?" She asked, her voice like little bells ringing through the darkness. She felt safe around him as she walked. She had noticed that it was getting darker, and normally she would just hex someone if they bothered her and explain later to her headmistress who seemed to hang on to her every word. But now, she had Mark with her, he would protect her, she was sure of that. Still though, her hand hung down by her side, close to his, and ready to pull out her wand if necessary.

Mark chuckled as she looked at him and said two could play at that game, it would be more fun this way. He was game if she was. "Well shall see. Its a case of im old and more experience." He said with a wink as he matched her pace. He couldn't help but notice their close proximity once again and he felt as if he should link his hand with her although he knew he shouldn't. They were not dating after all. He bit his lip as he thought of where he could take her next. He really didn't know, taking in to account the darkness and the season he knew it would be getting a lot darker soon and he didn't exactly like the fact he had a young veela with him. Of course he could protect her and himself if needed but he didn't want to put her at risk, this place was right next to Bleak street and everyone local knew what kinds of people liked to hang around those dark alleys. And they were the kind which Mark didn't want to face head on, he had just left school so was not the best wizard in the world against experienced adults. "Well personally I think we should but the tour short. Its getting dark and thats when the death eaters come out to play and they hang around a place not far from here so its not too safe to be out at night." He said looking down to his side at her. He was only concerned for her safety, Mark knew a death eater as one of Rileys friends but even he was not a friendly guy at all. "We can meet up tomorrow morning if you like, continue this tour then." Mark said as he remembered time differences. He would offer her a place at his house for the night but he wasn't sure if she would be comfortable with that seeing as they had only known each other for like an hour or so.

Amelia raised her eyebrows. "Well, age and experience my help you, but you know nothing of my experience!" She said, winking at him. She listened as he said that he would have to cut the tour short for tonight and she nodded, understanding what he said. "Well, ok." She said reluctantly, until he said that they could meet again tomorrow. Smiling at this thought, she turned to face the problem that now arose infront of her. Looking at her watch, she swore silently as she realised that the time for booking at her hotel was over. She had been told that she needed to book between 6 and 8, and it was now 8:30. She had had experience with the hotel owners before and knew that they wouldn't help her, even if she used all her charm on them. Sighing, she looked away, not wanting Mark to see her upset. Tears pricked her eyes at the thought of having no where to go or stay. Mark had only just told her that it was dangerous at these times because of the death eaters and now she would have to stay here on her own, a young half-veela, unable to do magic outside of school. A tear trickled down her cheek and she let it fall, not wanting to draw attention to it.

Mark shrugged as he listened to her comment. It was true he knew nothing about her experiance but then again she knew nothing about his which made them even in that area. However if he was still the bpy he had been in his fifth year then he would already be hitting on her like there was no tomorrow and with his skills he would probably have had her by now. Although he still had those skills he never used them much any more, he prefered the longer way of winning a girl over which didn't involve silly line which didn't mean a thing. "True but you don't know my experiance. I used to be the guy who had won over all the girls in my year, the year above and the year below." He said with a half smile, he was proud of his efforts bt he wouldn't repeat them. His smiles soon faded as he watched Amy look at her watch. He could tell something was up by the way she looked like she was about to burst in to tears. He tilted his head to the side before askeding. "Is everything ok?" He asked hoping he had not said anything to cause this upset.

Amy smiled at him. "Well, my experience involves winning loads of people over - without meaning too. Boys in my year, boys in the year above, even boys in the year above that, and boys younger than me." She said casually, thinking of some of the funny times she had had with her friends. She saw that he noticed she was upset and sighed, she had never been good at hiding her sadness. "Well, um its just that. I need to find a hotel. The one i was going to stay at told me to book between a certain time, but the thing is, i met you and lost track of the time." She explained clearly, not wanting to cry again. "But don't worry. Im sure that i will find one." She added, looking hopelessly around for a sign of a hotel that was free. The ones that she had already been too were completely full, but maybe there was a hidden one. She told herself, in desperation.

Mark chuckled and looked up at her slightly as she explained her experience to him. Truth be told he saw nothing out of the ordinary with what she had said to him. "Yeah but thats the same with most Veela's, whether they try or not. We boys are very simple minded creatures you know. Its you girls that take more work to win over." Mark pointed out to her. It was true that girls were usually more complicated than boys were, there were things that went on in the female mind that he would never be able to understand. He bit his bottom lip as she told him why she was upset. He felt kind of bad that this was his fault for distracting her so. He had to think for a second before talking. "Well I could apperate you to your school but seeing as im not a student and have no idea where the school is, I don't think that would be a wise option. Or plan B is you could stay around mine if you want. My cousin wouldn't mind much and his wife would be glad of the female company in the house. There is a spare bedroom you can stay in if you don't want to share a room with my little brother." He said to her thinking that he owed her one now and may as well repay her by giving her a place to stay the night seeing as it was his fault she couldn't get a hotel now.

Amelia smiled at Mark. "I know. Most boys are just interested in how people look. They don't care about who you are, just how you look." She repeated, her voice fading slightly. Listening to his first option, she raised her eyebrows. "You would do that for me?" She asked, truly touched. "Travel across the world to keep me safe for a night?" She repeated, smiling now. His kindness made her throat clog slightly and she smiled again, feeling a few tears prick her eyes. "Well, its the holidays, and, like Hogwarts i think, they don't open in the holidays." She explained, trying to keep her mind clear but finding it hard to when he was so close. "Would that be ok?" She asked, not wanting to impose herself upon a family. "Are you sure?" She asked again, not wanting to push him into an answer, but intrigued at the idea of meeting Mark's family, whom she had heard a little about.

Mark nodded at what she was saying, he knew this to be true from some of the guys he had spoken to at times. Although he was the opposite to that, most of the time. "That true although with me looks are good but i prefer the personality. Looks are an added bonus." He said with a shrug. Of course it was looks that drew him to new girls he did not know but personality was what made him stick around. Which was why he was still here with Amy. "Of course, i wouldn't want any one to stay out here all night because of me. Especially not a nice girl such as yourself." He said seeing how much what he had said to her had meant. He had meant it and had not said it as a line. "Of course, my family wouldn't mind. I expect my cousins will be too wrapped up in themselves to notice anyway, as he is a prof at Hogwarts he is hardly home. Well you can guess what they do when they are together." He said with a laugh. As long as they didn't get too noisey he was fine with it although he had put a spell on their room since he had left school so you couldn't hear what was going on anymore

Amy laughed lightly. "Same. But the only thing is, most people whom i meet just like the looks." She said with a sigh. Must be a boy thing then. She concluded. She laughed again as he spoke about his cousins. Her laugh was like bells going off. "But i assume that your brother isn't, well, isn't wrapped up in a girl." She said, wondering what sort of person Mark's brother was that he spoke so highly of. Looking up, she noticed how dark it was and how quickly it had turned. Smiling again, she wondered how long she could stay at their house or whether she would need to get a hotel tomorrow. I will wait and see how it works out. Ill face that issue in the morning. She told herself, pushing it to a different side of her brain so she wouldn't ruin the evening and night ahead of her.

(OOC: Is there any way that i could rp with Logan and Riley, just when she arrives. I know that you run them all, but Amy would be fascinated to meet a family of half-veelas. What with them all being male... Don't worry though...)
