Kade inhaled deeply as he stepped onto the beach, the warm, salty air a refreshing change from the cool, oxygen-deprived air of the Alpine region. The mountains were beautiful, the air crisp, but there was something to be said about the warmth of island life. After a few minutes of wandering up and down the beach, he entered a nearby surfshop. Being from Calgary and living at the foot of the Canadian Rockies for most of his life, Kade was more familiar with skiing and snowboarding than surfing, but he always enjoyed spending a few days on the waves whenever he got the opportunity. He definitely had plans to take advantage of the few weeks he would be spending in New Zealand and spend a lot of it in the water.
After perusing the shop's collection of boards to rent, Kade looked around for either an employee or a local who could be of some assistance. He was sure a number of people in the shop grew up on boards like he grew up on skis. "Hey, do you have an idea of which of these would be best for an amateur surfer?" he asked the nearest person, hoping he'd lucked out and could get some advice.
