The sun was setting as Mimosa left the hustle of the shops, leaving her parents to buy their new quills, and the stars were faintly appearing, faded white spots in the darkening sky. The moon was already up, and now it was April, it wouldn't be long before it disappeared back down below the horizon, waiting for a new day. Mimosa sighed happily, her small bag with her own quill tucked under her arm as she hopped up onto a brick wall, the busy town in sight. She wouldn't want her Mother wondering where she'd gone. Not again. Last time, she'd phoned the police in her worry that she'd been kidnapped or murdered. Mimosa rolled her eyes just at the thought which passed through her head, quickly banishing it.

As she swung her legs to some distant music and opened her small paper bag which contained her white feather quill, she smiled and tickled her cheek with it. It was extremely pretty, and she couldn't wait to take it to Hogwarts. It wasn't long now, and Mimosa was excited to be somewhere that only Wizards and Witches could find. Anyone she saw her age here was definitely a Wizard. There was no awkward conversation of trying to find out if they were a muggle or not. Nope, and Mimosa loved it. She stared up at the moon as she daydreamed peacefully, only interrupted by some footsteps close by.

In the sky, a star burnt as bright as Jaylah's eyes. That's what she normally got told, especially by her father. Jaylah thought of her father, as she walked along a little sidewalk, as a small group of lights grew bigger. Sighing, Jay noticed a girl sitting on the wall.

"Hello, sorry, did I bother you?" she spoke in her posh accent, holding her newly brought robes in her dainty little hands.

As Alexis walked along the path of Obsidian Harbour, glancing into each of the shop windows. She couldn't help but notice the looks that she got from anyone. Those dark, piercing looks, and she shrunk away from them. She wanted to just disappear into a world of her own making right now. She tended to do that a lot when she didn't like what was going on in the world around there, and she did it because she had nobody she could trust. There was nobody in the world that was out there for her. Everybody either betrayed her at one point, or just did something stupid with their life already. For somebody so young, she had seen a lot. A lot of things that she didn't want to see any more of. A lot of things that she wished wouldn't happen. Alexis turned a corner, to see a girl looking up at the stars. She seemed to have disturbed her. "Oh.. I-I'm sorry. Did I disturb y-you?" Alexis asked, not sure about what had happened here. Had she bothered her? Would she hurt her? Would she yell at her? She wanted to run away, but that was too rude.

Mimosa was extremely surprised to hear somebody speaking to her. At first, she hadn't looked round, thinking they had been talking to somebody else, and consequently felt very rude when she realized the truth. 'Oh! Not at all', she replied quickly, throwing a friendly smile in the girl's direction. She looked about her age, which was a bonus, as she wouldn't have known how to react had it been somebody else. Mimi noticed her uncertainty, pickiing up on the tiniest of emotions in people seemed to come naturally for her, whether she wanted it to or not. 'Are you ok?' She asked quietly, in case she wanted to ignore her question. She hated people asking if she was alright, but she was trying to be polite, not wanting to come across as rude or hateful. Perhaps that was what she was worried about. Mimosa's life had been pretty stress free, and she had no worries or concerns about anything in life. She was grateful for that.

Alexis was surprised when she began to talk to her. Usually, people were apprehensive and wouldn't talk to people if they had even the tiniest piece of shyness about them. But, this girl was different. She had not only picked up on the shyness, which was usually hard to pick up on, because she was pretty good at hiding it, having lived with that kind of shyness all of her life. She was usually able to brush it off as a stutter. Alexis didn't know whether or not she would like the girl very well, but she was a nice girl, and she wouldn't let her experiences get in the way of a conversation with someone who seemed to be nice. "N-not really. But it's nothing to w-worry about." Alexis admitted, not for the first time adding on the end part which she hated doing. It was a defense mechanism, she was scared to let anyone into her life, because she had learned that eventually everyone hurt you in some way. There was some people in the world that were kind hearted their whole lives, but they never seemed to find her, she was always stuck with the people who would throw her out into the cold first chance.

Not entirely sure whether or not to believe her, and not wanting to seem uncaring, Mimosa nodded slowly. She didn't want to, and wouldn't, pry, but she did feel a tingling of doubt that she wasn't exactly telling the truth. She couldn't argue however, and accepted what she'd said, ignoring her conscience uncomfortably. What was she supposed to say now? Should she walk away? She couldn't bring herself to do this, nor say anything else. The words were caught in her throat, and unusual as it was for her to be short of things to say, she'd simply lost the power of speech. The awkwardness was obvious and annoying, and suddenly Mimosa wished she'd walked away whilst she'd had the chance. The problem was, if she saw her at Hogwarts, she'd feel guilty, which was something she hated, and so she stayed silent and embarassed.

Alexis could see it in her eyes now. There was the doubt in what she had said. There was everything that could make or break a friendship. If she pried, she wouldn't know what to do, she wouldn't know how to react, she would shut down and not talk to her at all. Alexis couldn't handle people prying properly. She had never been able to. It was just something you couldn't brace yourself for. Sure, if it was a friend, someone that you could trust and who had earned that trust, could ask that and you'd be able to give an answer to it. But, Alexis didn't even know this girl, she didn't know what she was like, she didn't know her story. She didn't know anything about her life, even, and they were the most important things to know before you could even begin to know somebody well enough to be able to open up to them.

Alexis didn't even know her name, and if there was one thing she had learned it was sometimes you had to make the first move if you wanted to ever get anywhere with somebody. She guessed that this was one of those times. After all, she hadn't pressed the point, so she couldn't be all that bad for her to talk to. She could even become Alexis' first real friend if she was willing to bear with her. Not many people did, because of the fact that she was just too shy and she had really bad trust issues. Alexis sighed. "I'm Alexis, w-who are you?" She asked, the slightest tinge of pink touching her soft cheeks. She wasn't used to having to do this, so it made it hard for her to not get embarrassed when it came to having to do it.
