Sam needed somewhere to think. The Owlery was now full of girls receiving dresses for the ball. The library was packed with students studying. The grounds which were now covered snow was full of people throwing snowball fights and the Hufflepuff common room was the place he was trying to escape.

Sam decided to go to the dungeons, it was the place that you would least expect to find him. All of his friends knew his hatred for the place. But it was quiet, yes dreary, but quiet. Which was exactly what he needed. He walked down the concrete steps down to the dampness.

Once he entered the quiet dungeons he walked. Just walked and thoughts raced through his head. Mostly of Kate and how he destroyed their friendship, though really there was nothing he could do. He still felt awful. He shoved his hands fustratedly in his jeans pocket and sighed heavily.

Erik had just escaped from the owlry. He was sending a letter back to Emerson Rose telling her that he would be back for the holidays. No matter how much he would have liked to send his little sister a letter that yelled, he couldnt' remember the name. All these stupid wizarding terms just were plain annoying. Though he instead sent her a nice letter telling her that when he got back home he would be checking out this boy that she seemed to be dating. Emerson Rose was only nine, she shouldn't be in a relationship at all. This was were protective brother Erik came into the picture.

As he walked down towards the dungeons, every corridor seemed to be decreasing as he go lower and lower to the dungeons. Finally reaching the dungeons he found it rather empty. Thank god. Erik was not in the mood right not to deal with people.

Erik shoved his hands his back pockets as he walked towards the Slytherin common room accidently bumping into someone on the way. It was almost impossible to see in these dungeons. "Hey Watch it" Erik said looking around for the person that he had bumped into seeing that it was a boy in his own year. The name was not one that Erik knew though.

Sam was pushed forward abruptly. A slytherin. This was something he was expecting being in the dungeons. But he was hoping if any actually did talk to him it would be Toni or Hoshi.

Sam looked at the boy, in his year, with an eyebrow raised. "I didn't do anything." Sam said cooly he was not in the mood to be the nice guy he usually was. This boy was in one or two fo his classes but he never caught his name. Frankly, he didn't praticularry want to.

"Yeah whatever" Erik said. He didn't really want to see anyone right now. What was some boy, who Erik knew for a fact wasn't in Slytherin, doing in the dungeons? Getting away from the rest of the school Erik thought for a moment almost interested. He liked that someone else seemed to have problems. Hopefully bigger than Erik had. Now that would more than make his day more interesting if not better.

Looking over the boy for a few minutes. "So" He began. It was better to make conversation with someone he didn't know right now, just in case he lashed out. It made no difference if he lashed out at some boy he had never met. "What brought you down enough to make you lurk the dungeons?" Erik asked his voice emotionless. Of coarse he really didn't care. Why would he? Though maybe he should at least act slightly interested.

Sam was glad this Slytherin decided to drop the incident. Though when he asked what had made him come to the dungeons, Sam knew this boy for one didn't care and Sam really didn't know him well enough to tell him. "I just needed to think is all." He said simply, "It seems that everywhere else is full of students." He sighed, "The dungeons seems to be the only quiet place." Sam knew it was quiet for a reason. Students that weren't in Slytherin rarely came down here, just like Sam. Though today he needed to, he needed to think things through.

Erik rolled his eyes. "Of coarse you came here to think. Most people like you don't come down here" Erik said almost with a sarcastic tone. It was true that other houses rarely came down here and Erik liked it that way. It was how it was surposed to be a Slytherin spot, their own territory. Even thought , one boy wasnt' going to change that.

"The Seventh Floor corridor would probably be quiet. All those dumb Ravenclaws are up there studying for the exams" Erik said his tone casual. Even though Erik really had no problem with any other houses. He never did. At first when he came to Hogwarts, he hadn't know there were other houses. To this day he could barely tell which house someone was in unless they were wearing the uniforms. Yet it was the Slytherin mind set to not like the other houses. To fit this image, Erik would just have to act the part.

"Just stay away from the owlery. Yule ball insanity" Erik scoffed. He wasn't going to that ball. Usually he would have, but Erik would rather skip it than go alone. So that meant he was going to skip the whole dance using the excuse that he had to pack to go home. All in the simple plan.

Sam scowled, people like you that bugged him. He had many insults he could say to the boy but he bit his tongue. He was near the Slytherin common room and he was a hufflepuff he could be outnumbered easily.

Sam shrugged, "Yeah I suppose.." Though Sam wasn't just going to leave, in spite of the boy he would just stay here. He wasn't going to forced out of the dungeons no matter how much he wanted to leave the place. "Yeah I have been up there earlier. Bad mistake." Sam took out his hands from his pockets and folded his arms across his chest. "Are you going?" Sam asked not really knowing why he was making coversation.

Erik was actually surprised that this boy hadn't said anything to any of his comments. Maybe not too bad Erik thought, his emotions staying hidden as always. Though Erik had to admit that this boy seemed rather curious to him. Most others would be out of the dungeons once a Slytherin or two showed up. Not that Erik really understood why. He never really would.

"Going?" Erik repeated. "To the Yule ball?" He questioned guessing that this was what the first year boy meant. Adding in a hollow laugh, Erik continued to speak. "Yeah right I would rather die than be caught at something as lame as a dance" Erik said his tone as convincing as always. Really he hoped he would find someone to go with, not that he had looked too hard. The 'I really don't care' approach was not working as well as Erik would have liked.

"I take it you're going?" Erik said a smirk plastered on his face.

Sam smirked at the boys stupidness. Was Sam supposed to believe he didn't care about the dance? Sam could see right through it and was eager to say something though he continued to bit his tongue which protested in pain.

Sam nodded, "Yeah I am in fact." Sam had made sure he would make this dance perfect for Jenn after all he had been through. He even got Harri to help him with the dance. Sam watched the boy, he didn't really think of him as one of the annoying Slytherins. He seemed a bit of a mystery. Sam wasn't interested in solving this mystery either. He wasn't going to befriend this boy.

Erik watched the boy almost mirror the smirk on his own face. Was it that obvious that he wanted to go to the dance? Of coarse not Erik thought convincing himself that he was hiding that face quite well. No one had yet saw through it and Erik was not going to let some random boy walk in Slytherin territory and ruin it all, all Erik's act.

"Of coarse you are" Erik said rolling his eyes. "You seem the type that would go" He added once again his eyes scanning the boy judging his type right from the start. One of those pretty boys that got all the girls. Yeah that had to be it. Erik thought that had to be it at least.

"Stuck going with someone I take it" Erik said guessing that. No sane boy would go to the dance alone. It was just plain stupidity. Probably some Hufflepuff Erik thought trying to make himself feel better about the whole thing. Sure Erik probably could go with a Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw if he tried but he wasn't going to do that. After all the only girl in Hufflepuff he had met was a girl named Libby. She was taken already. Truthfully not that Erik really cared.

Sam even laughed at how jealous and arrogant this boy was. "What is that supposed to mean?" He asked him giving him a hard stare, to show he wasn't going to back down. "I wouldn't exactly say stuck. But yeah I am going with someone." Sam wasn't going to bring Jenn into this.

Sam then realised he was talking to this boy for the last five minutes and didn't even get a name. "Who are you?" Sam asked almost rudely, but if this boy wasn't going to give his name Sam wasn't going to give his.
