After another sucessful charms lesson, Sam was feeling rather pleased that he had worked hard in charms for the most part of last year. It was just about the only lesson that he had worked hard in and it was really paying off for the sixteen year old. Sam, having been seated at the back, was one of the first to leave the classroom but instead of returning to his dorm instantaneously, he lingered outside the room, waiting. He leaned against the wall of the corridor, watching as the class filed out of the door, his deep blue eyes scanning over each recognisable face. Even slumped against the wall, Sam was tall enough to peer over most of the heads and so he easily spotted the face he was looking for.

"Hey, Lindstrom!" He called loudly. The corridor was beginning to fill up now with students going to and coming from their classes, Sam was rather thankful he had a free period. He lazily took his foot off the wall and stepped away from it, making his presence more defiant among the crowd. He knew he had to speak to the girl at some point before the dance, which seemed to have fallen upon them, rather abruptly. In all honesty, Sam would have preferred to have gone with Riley seeing as things were going....well, perfectly for them. However this was not the case, he was to attend with Hilde, no objections. Making matters worse, Sam barely knew the girl, he couldn't remember the last time he even spoke to her. He was practically attending the Yule Ball with a stranger, as if things weren't going to be awkward enough.

Hilde relaxed a bit as class was dismissed. She enjoyed Charms but the stress of the impending OWLs was getting to her. Taking her time packing up, she straightened out her denim skirt under her robes before tossing her new bookbag over her shoulder and heading for the door, her new boots tapping across the stone floor. She picked them up over her last visit to the mall. They were not her usual style, but she was enjoying the look of them and loved seeing similar pairs on her roommate, Aleyha. They were a lot like her Quidditch boots, just a bit taller.

As she left the room, she was not really paying attention -- her focus was on getting out of the castle and using her free period to get in a bit of practice on the pitch. Suddenly, she heard her name called out, making her stop in her tracks. Hilde turned to face the voice and realized it was her 'date' for the Yule Ball, Sam Prince. "Hello, Prince," she said, a bit of her snarkiness coming out in her words. She hardly knew the tall boy that ended up being her purchase from the Brotherhood Auction. Hilde hadn't realized just how much taller than her Sam was. Her first thought was that Shane was taller, but not by much. The Ball was going to be really interesting this year, that was for sure.

It wasn't like it was Sam's fault that he was attending the Ball with Hilde, and the snarkiness in her tone seemed to suggest that she was a little (or a lot) peeved at him. In fairness, she wasn't aware who she was betting on but it was more her fault than his own that they were stuck in this situation, well in Sam's view of things. He folded his arms across his broad chest as he looked at her, quite shocked at what he saw to be perfectly honest. It made him seriously realise that out of the five years he had been a colleague of hers, he never paid any attention to her whatsoever and Sam had to admit, her t-shirt almost made him want to peg it down the corridor as fast as he could. His eyes averted quickly back to her face, knowing that staring at that area wasn't exactly something he wanted to be caught doing.

He bit down on his lip as he looked at her, waiting for her to say something but Hilde's greeting seemed to be about it and so, Sam took the lead. "This Ball then..." he began, awkward as hell, "I figure it's about time one of us acknowledged we have to go together." His tone of voice wasn't cross nor annoyed, those feelings he kept locked down, it was merely just stating the obvious facts. His deep blue eyes glanced at the many faces rushing past them, his lips slightly separated as he prepared to speak once more. "So what's happening with that? First of all, where should I meet you?" Again, his voice didn't seem to hold much interest in the conversation but it was something that had to be done. If this conversation didn't take place he was pretty sure he would be going dateless and would certainly get a smack on the head from the Brotherhood. Although, the way things were going, perhaps that would be a better option?

Hilde couldn't help but smirk as she noticed Sam reading her shirt. She had picked it up recently and, though it was a bit risky to wear around school, she took a chance on it today. His reaction was the kind she was looking for from people. The words he spoke brought her back to Earth and reminded her that she had paid a good price for his company at the Yule Ball. "Um, yeah. Sorry, thought you were going to try to borrow my notes or something," she started, her attitude softening a touch. "I guess we should talk about the ball. Um, do you want to meet me in the Entrance Hall or you could pick me up at the Slytherin dorms. Up to you. Where do you feel more comfortable?" Hilde relaxed a bit as she spoke, finally realizing that this could be fun. Sam was a fierce competitor on the pitch, like her, and if they could find a common ground they could really have a fun night.
