Sixth Years: Lesson 5

Professor Killian Borisyuk was not in the best moods today, and that was not that abnormal actually. He had what he needed laid out before him for the lesson today, and that was good sized log on top of his desk that he picked from the Forbidden Forest earlier that day. It was likely part of a tree that had fallen, but it was dried out and perfect for the spell. The sixth years soon piled in, and as soon as it was time, the door shut with a wave of his hand, and he started to speak, "Today is going to be a short lesson. You will be learning the Flame Freezing Charm. I am sure that you heard of this during your History of Magic lessons back in your first year." He did not teach that year, but he knew all about it regardless.

"Recall about three hundred or so years, muggles burned those suspected of having magic at the stake. Those that did not have magic, you know what happened to them. But what happened to those that had magic? They just had to suffer through dramatic displays of pain. They did this by changing the properties of fire." Killian pulled out his wand and set the log on fire. The flames rose up a decent amount, so Killian stood up, and then cast the flame freeze charm on the fire. He proceeded to stick his hand straight into the flame, which his skin didn't react or even turn red between his ink. "The fire feels more like a warm breeze, which is why my hand isn't blistering up from this." Killian swiftly waved his wand to put the fire out.

He conjured candles for everyone, and gestured toward them, "Now, you can practice with the candle. If you feel even the slightest bit of heat, the spell did not work. After you manage to not burn yourself, you are finished. And no reading will be assigned. You can practice outside the class, but don't burn down the school."
Assignment: RP the lesson.

Sofi thought it was brilliant that witches burnt on the stake would use this spell. Though she was nervous about learning the Flame Freezing Charm, she was worried about it not working and burning herself when she went to check. She took a deep breath and focused on the task and following Professor Borisyuk's instructions. She tried a few times, wincing when the candle was still hot. After several attempts she did manage to freeze the flame and could feel it's cool temperature. Smiling, Sofi extinguished the candle then headed out of the classroom.

Alana made her way into Professor Borisyuk’s classroom and listened as he told them they’d be learning the Flame Freezing Charm. He gave them a refresher of the spells’ history that they had covered in History of Magic. Once the introduction was done, they moved on to trying to practice the spells with candles. Alana spent the lesson practising, and by the end of the lesson, she had managed to successfully freeze the flame on her candle. Once the lesson was over, she packed up and left the classroom.
