Sixth Years: Lesson 2

Killian sat behind his massive desk in the Charms classroom, overlooking some of the letters that his brothers sent him. They were the only updates he had for his nephews and nieces while he was at the school. Of course, any letter sent to him via his wife was read privately because it concerned his own kids most of the time. He glanced up when he heard a set of footsteps, and that was the first indication that the sixth years were arriving. He folded his letters and put them in one of the pockets of his robes. Killian sipped from his thermos that was absolutely full of coffee. "Morning, sixth years," Killian finally greeted as he used magic to close the doors and to write one single word on the chalkboard: Incarcerous.

"As you can see from the board, you will be learning the spell Incarcerous," Killian stood up from behind the desk, and a few strides so that he was in front of it. Killian folded his arms across his chest as his green eyes looked over the sixth years. "Let's see who did their reading," Killian used one of his fingers on his arm to point to a random student, "what does the spell do?" Killian waited for the student to answer the question, which was correct. He nodded along. "To bind someone or something. Watch." Killian took out his wand and brought forth a dummy from behind the chalkboard. "Just like every other spell, you need to envision in your mind of what you want to happen. And then the spell should succeed. Like so." Killian intoned the spell, and heavy, thick ropes burse from his wand and wrapped around the dummy, locking it in place and made it fall to the floor.

It was a simple spell overall - when one mastered it. "Using this spell on objects that don't move is much easier than something that is moving. It is very useful with dueling purposes, and if you want to catch something and detain it. While that is said, it should only be used under supervision. It might be a temptation to use this on first years that are running around like mad, but don't." Killian said that in a stern, cold tone to force the sixth years to realize that it was not a joke. The spell was not a friendly one. It was one meant to contain someone. "So, my lecture is done. Stand up," Killian ordered as he waved his wand for the desks and chairs to be pushed to the side of the wall. "If you don't get it the first time, just keep trying."

Killian duplicated a couple of dummies and set them loose and moving about in the classroom. He added at the very end, "Oh, and your homework is to read about the disillusionment charm." Killian picked up his thermos and drank a bit of his coffee and watched the students practice the new spell.
Assignment: RP the lesson. Whoever answers the question will get some extra credit.
